it was possible to achieve speeds close to that by using

There are no uncontended banks on Sam unless you have an external
memory add-on. And turning the screen off has no effect unless the
TV scan is actually in the screen area (except in mode 1).

Hmm...I was pretty sure about the contention, either every second block
or page I seem to recall. However, it's been a while so I might be
wrong. For the screen off, I am again wrong. :) I just remember using
it on a mandelbrot generation program some years ago to speed up things.

But the point is that the screen is 3.5x larger, the processor
speed is not. I'd like to have a blitter or dma or somthing.

If it can't be done in mode 3 or 4 then it will have to be done in
mode 2. But I think that for line drawing the disadvantage will not
be anywhere near 3.5x even in mode 3. If you want it filled then
 that's a different matter...

I also remember something about the CPU being slightly faster in
mode 3 than i mode 4. Can't remember if that was with or without
the screen turend off. Though - mode 2 should be small enough
for 2/3 action.

Of course the dashboard can be in mode 4 whatever mode the windscreen
 is in. :-)

How about a transparency film to stick onto the screen? ;)

Uhm...explain? David Braben said no to me doign an conversion

OK, so the original story was correct then. :-) It's just that you appeared
to say you asked him to write it. But you didn't. So that's OK then.

Sorry for the ambiguety. :)

Now that the Sam-hacked Speccy version is officially harmless I suppose
a Sam Elite would be allowed. :-)

I could ask again.

I read ALL email - except two people who are fixtures in the killfile.

And as to the original question, I've sent a not to Robin Evans with a copy of
the details (and an offer to help him if he thinks it necessary).

but just out of interest, who are these two people?

Have a guess :) It's between Andrew, David and I - makes me feel
almost important :) It does however kind of bugger up the SAM Community
group I'm trying to do, as I was hoping to work with Bob on this one,
because every company/mag I've spoken to, have been very cooperative. And
from what I hear, Format could do with all the free publicity it can get.

Just make sure its from that elastic stuff so it can be streched to

I dunno I think most have this list have come into that catergory at one
time or another.

A certain made-up member of this mailing list was sending me abusive
emails. Their ISP has said they will take further action if this continues.

Another ISP of a party who has been making libellous acusations has also
said that further comments could result in a full ban from their service.

Nice to see some of these ISP's dont like upsetting the public :)

Huh? Look at the message headers...

Sam-users emails always come From: whoever posted the message.
