PDC and meber server are running 3.3.4.

That's normal. It's our way to figure out if the DC is ADS

[Samba] Printer Question

2009-05-30 Thread Johan 'yosh' Marklund

Hi!

Not sure that this is the right list, but has anyone had any experience
setting up a Konica Minolta Bizhub printer to use ldap authentication
through samba? I know that the bizhub 250 that i have has built-in
authentication, but it's really ridiculous when using the official linux
drivers (they only support a one number username and a one number
password e.g. 1:5 or similar). And since I'm setting up an ldap server
it would be nice to handle all the authentication there instead of in
the printer :/

Hi Christian.
PDC is in network 192.168.220.0/24, Server 2008 is in network
192.168.6.0/24 (gateway 192.168.6.1), there is a VPN between (over 100
Mbps copper), firewall allows all traffic between these two networks, I
can ping and telnet to all open ports on PDC. Three is also an BDC in
the 192.168.6.0/24 network. I use Fedora DS for LDAP and Samba 3.3. on
both machines (PDC and BDC). I can add Server to domain with no problem.
Can this be related with x64 server version? I don't have these problems
on Server 2008 32-bit in the same environment.

Regards.

nothing about it or the logs of win 2008?

can you test the constellation in the same subnet without the coppler?

sorry about this..

[Samba] logon script

2009-05-30 Thread Santhosh Kumar Gulla
Hi,

I have configured a samba PDC with a logon script. The logon script includes
dos commands to map a drive letter for different shares. One share has user
home directory, one has common folder for all the users and other share is
group share. For assigning a drive letter to group share I have used the
command net use g: \\%L\group\%G but group share drive is not mounting for
any of the users. I have three groups tech, mktg and sales. I want to mount
tech share for tech group and that particular share only should be mounted
as group share for tech group users and same for mktg and sales. Can you
please help me out in solving this issue. please assist me in giving correct
parameters and path.

Thank You.

Put the following parameter in your smb.conf:

logon script = %G.bat

Then, create a script named after each group in your netlogon share,
in your case tech.bat, mktg.bat and sales.bat.

The script corresponding to the group the particular user belongs to will be
executed upon logon.

To map the shares to drives, the script should contain commands in the
folllowing format:

net use g: \\server\sharename

(The drive letter to use depends, of course, on your particular case).

See Variable substitutions on the smb.conf man page.

[Samba] Is building a load balance setup like this workable?

2009-05-30 Thread Jack Downes
Okay, before anything else, all I'm using samba for is a Windows
looking frontend to cups. Eg, so the users don't know I'm getting rid
of the windows 2003 printserver and replacing it with a pair of linux
printservers (Samba/Cups)

I'd like to have 2 (or 3) printservers, all the same build of linux
(debian), cloned, etc.

users will be able to go to \\printserver and it'll pull up one of
10.6.0.19, 10.6.0.20, etc.

Right now this works fine. I've been serving over 505 printers on this
now for 6 months and it's a good thing. The issue I have is growing
this to more than two servers - what if I want to have 5 servers, etc.

So, to my way of thinking, I'll have an nfs mount that is shared amongst
all the servers - /var/cache/samba, /etc/samba, /etc/cups,
/var/lib/samba, etc - whatever it is that samba changes.

Now... I'm guessing I'll need a filesystem able to deal with multiple
servers using that mount as r/w, so maybe it'll be an iscsi mount with
the right fs.

Anyway, what I'm after is to make changes to one server and have it
propagate to all servers. i'm not concerned if I need to have a
special server that I make the changes to, or if it's just that I can
make changes to any in thecluster. i'm hesitant to actually call this
a cluster as I'm not quite sure it's what I'm after.

anyway, anyone have suggestions for how to get this done?

thanks
Jack
