Hi John,

As others have mentioned, Dee is talking about feedstock for her
distiller! She's not using tap water to make her CS. Whether she drinks
it or not is not the subject that was under discussion! grin

It's so tough to follow a conversation in this medium! sigh

BTW, I envy you your spring. I use bottled distilled, which isn't
perfect, I'm sure, but a far sight better than the chorine/flouride
laced mess I get from the tap.

Be well,

CSLung flute...

2010-01-10 Thread M. G. Devour
Dear Brooks,

Thank you for bringing the Lung Flute to our attention. Wow, talk about
simple execution of an elegant idea!

I think once the FDA and the pharmaceutical lobbyists get done with it,
the inventor would do more good for people, at least in the US, if he
licensed the design to Wham-O and had them sell it as a Party Trumpet
for $10 (Not for medical or therapeutic use...). sigh

As for making it, I imagine the reed can be pretty simple... some
chosen thickness of painters' dropcloth from the hardware store. The
body could be made of 4 pieces of thin acrylic sheet. Getting the
mouthpiece right would involve getting a close look at one to see the
exact geometry, but the gross components would probably be easily made
from PVC pipe fittings.

Tweaking the frequency should be easily done by using a microphone to
record the slapping of the reed with your computer's sound card and
applying some simple spectral analysis tools to the signal.

16 Hz should be about the same as an open 32 foot organ pipe or 16 foot
closed pipe, but I bet it'd be tough to sound it with the lung capacity
of a healthy person, let alone one with pulmonary challenges.

I could imagine building something with a slotted or perforated drum
inside a cylinder. You'd mount a mouthpiece on the side of the cyliner
and turn the drum with a motor. The openings in the drum would
alternately open or close the airway at a frequency equal to the number
of slots times the revolutions per second. More complex, certainly, but
you'd have a pretty precise idea what you're getting with little trial
and error.

I hope it becomes available to the general public at a reasonable cost.
If not, it'd be pretty useful as an indictment of the system.

Be well,

Mike D.

So far as I have tested with my PWT meter, no filter is equal to
distilling. My PWT doesn't read much different between plain tap water and
filtered water. I did get better distilled water when I started from cold
filtered tap water (a good faucet filter, not a Brita) than when I started
from hot unfiltered tap water. The point of boiling before distilling is
that preheating the water before putting it into the still shortens the
distilling time somewhat. With my distiller though, it heated the water so
fast that I didn't feel the extra work was worth it as it didn't produce a
significant reduction in run time of the still.

Me either. I too have a filter on the water system but it only took the

Unfortunately no. RO is too expensive for us. Also I don't like the

2010-01-10 Thread Rowena
Some quarter of a century ago my DH held his colleagues at work
spellbound in wonder as he described to them the benefits of the reverse
microwave and urged that they present themselves to a particular store
to order one. They were all in agreement. It was only when he advised
them not to give their name that they started laughing.

It was not really very long after that that we read about such a product
actually being on the market. We never sought to purchase one, however,
and gave our existing microwave away.

DH has often invented or described a product only to discover someone
else has already invented it or does so soon thereafter.

CSCS: pure H2O,cooking pots

2010-01-10 Thread Harold MacDonald
For distilling I draw off tap water [which is poor here] in pails and let sit
for 12 to 24 hrs to let the volatiles bleed off,Even then for good EIS/CS, I
double distill.
As for cooking utensils, I have been doing very little cooking for a long time
now as cooked food is dead food,.True , some foods are better cooked lightly
than raw,ie, steaming..
I use stainless steel and corning ware,or pyrex [old timers],if I do cook.
My diet now is mostly raw fruits and veggies along with juicing with an Omega

Very happy with the results.

Re: CSabout pure water

2010-01-10 Thread sol

Dee,
If your CS is clear and stable, you are doing great and don't really
need to go to the expense of a different meter

I just usually recommend a PWT or COM-100 because A TDS wouldn't have
worked for me here. And until a person gets going making CS there is
no real way to know if a TDS is sufficient or not, though the odds
are on the side of it being good enough.

I didn't get a meter until a few months into CS making, when I was
having continual problems with very yellow finished CS. Ode kept
telling me it was the DW water quality, but I didn't listen, and he
was kind enough to work through other possibilities with me. Then
finally I purchased a PWT from Silvergen, and it turned out it was
the DW water quality after all. Had I owned a good meter from the
get-go, I'd have saved myself several months of frustration and
experimentation. Once I found out how extremely variable the DW sold
here is (under any brand names) I got a distiller, and my problems
were solved as I could then distill to the purity I needed.

For some reason, DW quality here seems to be running good for the
nonce. If it continues good over the coming weeks and months, I won't
replace my distiller which finally broke (the spout to the collection
container crumbled, and the collection bottle had cracked anyway). It
did good for around 6 years though. Not bad for an el cheapo.

Me either. I too have a filter on the water system but it only took
the contaminants down about 30 points. i.e. on my TDS meter the tap
water before we put the filter on read 288 and after the filter it
reads about 263. When I have distilled it, it reads 000 but this is
only on a TDS meter. It still makes really clear stable CS though. dee

I don't think it is, but distilling RO water is supposed to make

if I am wrong).

Since I also drink DW and use it for coffee and tea, and for cooking
(if I have enough), my still ran nearly daily, at least one gallon
and often two. If my husband drank DW it would have had to produce
much more, he drinks double filtered tap water. I do use around a
gallon to a gallon and a half of CS per week.

When I figured up how much DW we'd need to purchase per week to
replace what I was distilling at home, it came to about 10 gallons. I
can't imagine doing that for 6 people and an infant. The 10 gallons a
week here is for me to drink and for making CS for my two cats, my
husband and myself (and neither of us actually drinks CS routinely
though we do use it for mouthwash and lots of other uses, including,
misting eyes and hands and cleaning around the kitchen, etc). I also
wipe down most bottles and food containers that come from the store
and go right into the refrigerator. The cats DO drink straight CS,
and go through quite a lot.

It seems to me that 10 gallons per week is about the maximum
practical to haul home from the store.

It worked out to 8 or 9 dollars. I need something
to make my own supply, I may have to buy 2
ditillers, run simultaneously, to get enough water
every day for everyone, since most distillers only
produce 1 gallon every 4 - 5 hours:) I'm basing
that on approx 1 gallon per person per day, and
cooking purposes, plus CS.

use it for mouthwash and lots of other uses, including, misting eyes and
hands and cleaning around the kitchen, etc). I also wipe down most
bottles and food containers that come from the store and go right into
the refrigerator. The cats DO drink straight CS, and go through quite a
lot.

It seems to me that 10 gallons per week is about the maximum practical
to haul home from the store.

How was the water quality, as far as purity goes?
I find generally that sellers and manufacturers

The aluminum pressure cooker that replaced it is made in India.

Re: vision ware, was Re: CSWhere to find pure sodium bicarbonate

2010-01-10 Thread Annie B Smythe
Aluminum is excreted via the kidneys. Aluminum
becomes a problem when the water is fluoridated or
if you take prescription meds with fluoride in
them, and there are many meds with fluoride in
them. Fluoride picks up aluminum and carries it
past the blood brain barrier into the brain.
Although aluminum may put a heavier load on the
kidneys, excretion depends on the individual,
their health status and kidney function. Cooking
with aluminum should not be too bad as long as
there are no other chemicals in the cooking water
that cause aluminum to be retained in the body.
India may not be as fluoridated as we are.

There is also the fact that the majority foods in
the US contain fluoride in varying amounts,
including coffee and tea. Any food grown that has
been watered with fluoridated water or processed
with fluoridated water has fluoride in varying
amounts. The USDA site has a list of foods with
aluminum content in them. And every food sold is
not listed, otherwise it would probably be
thousands of pages long, but it gives you a
general idea of the fluoride content of food.

So while the people in India may be safer using
aluminum cookware, I am personally not comfortable
using it.

CSRe: is RO water good enough for CS?

2010-01-10 Thread Alchemysa
RO water is good enough if its good quality. The most popular water
for making colloidal silver here in Australia is a reverse osmosis
brand called Nobles PUREAU. It's sold as drinking water and its
available in just about every major supermarket for about $6 - $7 for
a 10 litre cask. (About 2.5 gall.). It's basically reverse osmosis
water but they claim to do other things to it to improve the the
purity. From memory the purity averages at about 1.5 uS, although
lately they had a few bad batches go through that werent up to
standard. So Aussies should look for Pureau with a 'Best by' date
after 30/10/11.

Personally (because I got a distiller cheap) I now distil my own
water, but if i do buy water I buy demineralised water. I used
demineralised water for years. I found it gave me a clearer end
result - better even than my own distilled water. The best quality
demineralised water over here is 'WT' brand from the laundry products
dept of larger supermarkets, although most of the home brand demins
from big supermarkets are good. Demineralised water is usually always
labelled 'Not for drinking' but thats basically just a legal
disclaimer because they are not in the beverages business. The
important thing to remember about RO and demineralised water is that
the quality can vary greatly from brand to brand. Some brands are
excellent whilst others are very poor. Theoretically distilled water
should consistently be very good although I've never bought any
distilled water that is as good at the best demineralised water.

'Home' undersink RO filters seem to be a bit of a lottery. They can
produce very good water but they need to be maintained very well.

A very simple rule is to be very wary of any water that produces any
form of white cloud soon after you apply the power. Other than for
emergencies you should ditch it or use it externally or give it to
the pets.

But is RO water good enough for CS?

I don't think it is, but distilling RO water is supposed to make
extremely pure distilled water. And I think Ode told me once he
knew of a couple of people who had to do that to get decent DW
(correct me if I am wrong).

Since I also drink DW and use it for coffee and tea, and for
cooking (if I have enough), my still ran nearly daily, at least one
gallon and often two. If my husband drank DW it would have had to
produce much more, he drinks double filtered tap water. I do use
around a gallon to a gallon and a half of CS per week.

When I figured up how much DW we'd need to purchase per week to
replace what I was distilling at home, it came to about 10 gallons.
I can't imagine doing that for 6 people and an infant. The 10
gallons a week here is for me to drink and for making CS for my two
cats, my husband and myself (and neither of us actually drinks CS
routinely though we do use it for mouthwash and lots of other uses,

Simple, inexpensive, usually.
