Not at all. I mean, they are pretty large and I either bend toward the
screen, or seat deeply back in the seat when working. Either ways, it's
comfortable and soft for the bottom :)

Thanks for the suggestions, I actually already have an Aeron, bought it
from a hedge fund guy who was downsizing a couple years back, the only good
thing to come out of the financial crisis for me.. It just doesn't have all
of the adjustments I need. I checked out several, and while the Herman
Miller Embody is really cool, I'm not dropping that kind of money on a
chair.

I actually thought this felt the best and is closer to a reasonable price
range. Maybe I can find one cheaper than list somewhere.

We got a few Knoll ones for testing at work and it was a mixed bag of
opinion. Some like the bendy back but a lot of people really don't.

Yes, it's comfortable, but I'm not sure it is conductive to a good posture.
It doesn't hold your back straight (in an ergonomic ideal position); it
bends to your back's will.

I've been a chair gnome for 30 years.

Bought an Aeron, 12 years ago and, apart from the dust, still looks new,
and is still the best all rounder.

It sits at home now as I'm an employee and management penny pinched and
got cheap Aeron knock offs. They're lousy.

I picked up a brand new Aeron at an ILM fire sale for $125. Great deal,
good chair. But my absolute favourite chair ever is beneath me now, the
Knoll Life Chair. Great controls and very comfortable. Good in heat and
cold. Experienced both in the heat of San Francisco and the winters in
Ireland. I got it at a Design fair in SF for $100.

I've been lucky with chairs. But allow me to gloat... I also picked up 2
Biomorph Maxo tables for $45 each, used by ILM artists since Jurassic Park.

I also have two Aeron chairs since 1996, and they are still looks and feels
as new, the way you can adjust it, change working positions and that you
sit in a i net, make it very comfortable during summe. In 2007 the
armrest broke on one of the chairs, since Herman Miller at time of purchase
offered a 12 year warranty, they collected the chair, exchanged
the broken part. A company that offers a twelve year warranty

Re: OT: Ergonomic chairs

2013-01-25 Thread Adam Seeley
Hi,

My wife's a physio and an ergonomist and doesn't rate the Aeron that highly.

The lumbar supports slip out of place pretty easily - true.
Front bar below the thighs can isn't great for circulation if your feet aren't
placed properly.
They're not too bad if you're a large build, but not great for smaller builds.

That said, I do use one myself that I bought second hand for £200 a few years
ago and find it comfortable enough generally.

Site she recommends for good chairs are:
http://www.asd.co.uk/
http://www.posturite.co.uk/ergonomic-chairs/ergonomic-office-chairs.html

And of course, as I have had drummed into me many (many, many) times, it's your
posture that counts. No point having a good chair if you slouch or aren't
sitting properly or have badly placed monitors, keyboards etc.

Have a good weekend all,

Adam.
