Dear Wolfgang, Thank you very much for these two links - most useful. I am getting a problem with the second link, though: Google opens the journal for me but the pages on the Erfurt sundials are blank except for the message Sie haben entweder eine Seite erreicht, die nicht angezeigt werden kann, oder die Anzeigebeschrankung fur dieses Buch erreicht which presumably means that the article is not available as I am in the UK rather than Germany. new Italian magazine on line
Dear friends, I guess most of you have seen or simply heard in the past about the Italian magazine Gnomonica Italiana. It has been the main reference for all the Italian dialists for several years. Unfortunately when Mario Arnaldi left the management it was impossible to find someone who could take his place. We so had a one year gap waiting for a solution. Now I am happy to let you know that a new managing committee has taken on the responsibility of a new magazine. Its name is Orologi Solari (Sundials). It introduces several changes with respect to the past. The new magazine is free. The first issue is ready and it can be downloaded from the site www.orologisolari.eu. A digital bonus is associated with this issue and it is available for downloading too. Every article is summerized by a short abstract in Italian as well as in English and French. Papers from foreign dialists are welcomed: f.i. issue n. 1 contains a French article both in the original language and in Italian. The publication frequency will be four-monthly. The managing commettee invites you all to have a look at Orologi Solari and hopes you will enjoy this result of the Italian gnomonic community. Greetings. dear all I remember you anyone can get a level 3 access to Sundial Atlas with some permits to menage the site. One of these permits is to reach the 'translations' menu to introduce a new language. In this menu there are all the sentences of the site in the 5 languages active now. This permit allow you to translate the sentences in a new language and more people can work simultaneously at the same language. Actually there are two new languages in progress, one of them is German, if someone is interested to collaborate please contact me or Fabio Garnero. The notes in the sundial cards can be translated by the Google function in the language of your browser (automatically detected). ciao Fabio Fabio Savian fabio.sav...@nonvedolora.it Inviato da tablet Messaggio originale Da: JOHN DAVIS john.davi...@btopenworld.com Data: 21/04/2013 09:56 (GMT+01:00) A: Sundial Mailing List sundial@uni-koeln.de,Wolfgang R. Re: Sundials along the Camino de Santiago de Compostela
The site waymarking does not help much to trace a path, why not collaborate with Savian the definition of the Camino de Santiago? Just load the cards that you know not to be on the Sundial Atlas and ask Fabio Savian to help in the implementation of the path. R: RE: new Italian magazine on line
There is no subscription, the magazine can be obtained in two ways: - the pdf copy can be downloaded from www.orologisolari.eu site, the list will be notified when a new issue becomes available - a printed copy can be obtained through a Print On Demand service. The second choice is not active yet. I will let you know as soon as it is finalized. However consider that the service will be based on an Italian site, this means that the cost for foreigner people could become too high: I guess it will be cheaper to personally print the magazine and to have it bound in a copy bureau. Hope this answers all questions and doubts. Greetings. Kunstuhrmacher in Alt Augsburg.
I recently came across a very interesting book in my father's library entitled Kunstuhrmacher in Alt Augsburg. The German text is by Maximilian Bobinger and others. The instruments illustrated include early and ornate clocks, astrolabes and globes. Some of the clocks have sundials included in their design. However, the nature of these instruments suggests that these sundials were not intended to be functional. I scanned the photographs of a few and put them on a web page: http://www.twigsdigs.com/sundials/kunstuhrmacher/kunstuhrmacher.htm What do you think?
