[Biofuel] The Future of the Biofuels mailing list, your input needed.
Good day all; As of this morning, there are 456 subscribers to this list. The recent news of Keith's passing come as sad news to us all and we saw a tiny uptick in traffic over those few days. Since then, we're back to some updates on issues that many of us find interesting by Darryl, and not much else. So, I need to hear from you, as in a *lot* of you if you want to see this list continue. The archives are in place, and as of right now, it's the intention to keep them in place, but I'm uncertain that this list is really serving any further purpose. Keith and I have discussed this very issue many times over the last 5 or so years. I offered to host the list in order to keep it going a few years back. But now that we are no longer blessed with Keith's insights, well, I'm not sure this list is really relevant. So, please respond to this posting with your thoughts. I'll need to hear from a lot of you. --chipper ___ Sustainablelorgbiofuel mailing list Sustainablelorgbiofuel@lists.sustainablelists.org http://lists.eruditium.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/sustainablelorgbiofuel

I really like getting the updates, and do read almost all of them, though I rarely comment on them. I would hate to see it go. I wish I could contribute more as well, but haven't much in the past few years. Re: [Biofuel] The Future of the Biofuels mailing list, your input needed.
I've already made my feelings about this known off-list. Our community and the knowledge we share has matured to the point where there is very little, if any, new information being disseminated about biofuels here. Part of the difficulty is the illegality of distilling ethanol for fuel in most jurisdictions, which makes it nearly impossible for those of us who are running gasoline-powered vehicles to actually DO anything with what we've learned here. (My current truck is a Flex Fuel vehicle, which doesn't do me any good because there is no ethanol available where I live.) I don't see that dynamic changing any time soon. In that respect, we've become a list with only a handful of active members, exchanging very little practical information about the day-to-day use of biofuels. If it weren't for Darryl's contributions, activity on this list would be very scant, and certainly not worth the expense of keeping the list alive. As a long-time member (I'm pretty sure I was among the first to join, back in the Yahoo! days . . .) I believe the biofuels mailing list has outlived its purpose. I'll be sad to see it go, but in reality, this has been inevitable for a long time. [Biofuel] [[Possible Spam]] Re: The Future of the Biofuels mailing list, your input needed.
Hi - I have to admit, I have never contributed to this list However with that said, I have always looked forward to the posts from members. The information, the views, and opinions that I have read over the years has helped shape my own views, and have helped me see the right through the wrong. Archives are perfect for researching information, facts or theories on the hows and whys ... but up to date, current current flows (that are honest, non sugar coated) of information is just so damn rare. I hope the glue that holds this together always will, and I do realize that I have to do my part, to ever claim membership in a community as valuable as this. Re: [Biofuel] The Future of the Biofuels mailing list, your input needed.
I think the list has been little more than a news aggregator for a while now, and there are plenty of other means of achieving that. A chapter has closed for me personally, and without the cut and thrust of active debate and Keith's excellent moderation I think it may be a fitting time to call it a day. This is not a slight on the currently active members, but I personally am just receiving it out of nostalgia at this point. Anyway, that's my 2c... Re: [Biofuel] The Future of the Biofuels mailing list, your input needed.
I have been a member of this list since the beginning of the old Journey to Forever days and have been intrigued and informed throughout. I was especially saddened by Keith's passing as I knew and worked with him in his early days as a journalist in Cape Town. Keith always welcomed off-biofuel topics e.g political, environmental and social as leaveners to what would otherwise have been a preponderance of technology and chemistry topics. Keith was careful never to delete posts that were relevant to almost anything of concern to those open to debate on any subject. He of course was quick to spot trolls and their spoiling tactics and cut them off after an initial warning. Now that Darryl has stepped into the breach to keep the list going I read his postings avidly. My point: let's not kill the golden goose that provides such food for thought.
