Chris, you have no idea where to begin when saying anything about my
state. So, I will give you a start. Guess what state I am from and
you can say that you won this little battle.

We are called the land of 10,000 lakes which is a blatent lie, we
have 15,000. We have a large area in the arrowhead region of the
state that has been set aside for recreation and does not allow the
use of internal combustion engines (that would be a gas or diesel
engine if you are from Texas.)

Statewide we have several different cultures and backgrounds that
until 11/5 were living safely in the part of the state we call
the Twin Cities. Folks living in the greater part of the state (we
do not call it outstate) have just begun to understand how they fit
in the world and they are worried. They have been told by certain
right wing radio personalities that if things continue that they
might become the 'minority' and loose the comfortable lives they
have. These are the same lives that they have lived since they
forced the native population (that's Indians if you are from Texas)
to the reservations. This was reinforced by the 9/11 attack.

Speaking of Natives (I'm going to talk about Indians again, Chris),
sportsmen are getting their undies in a bundle because the Native
population has been allowed to hunt and fish as outlined in an 1872
treaty. The sportsmen do not like this and they want George Jr. to
end this little treaty.

Can you guess what state I am talking about? Here is another hint,
we are straight north and a little bit east of where you are right
now.

Go ahead and be offended, Chris. I am not going to go ahead and play
nice with you because you were offended. And it is not only
Yankees that think Texans are dumb, have you ever been outside of the
USA? You should what they think of Texans.

Your former Governor and current President has done more to paint
Texans as idoits than you ever could with your lame brained comments.

Here is something that is offensive:

Democrats are not patriots. They don't care what happened on 9/11.
Dash-hole tried everything he could to stop Bush from protecting the
Homeland.

These non-patriots that you are referring to are trying to protect
your rights from an oppressive government, not preventing the
protection of the country.

Look outside of the little box you live in and really look at what is
going on,

Curtis,

No offense was taken just because someone was Republican or named
any other party affiliation. I got pissed off at the comment:

The true American people saw the light and realized it's going to
take a Republican run government to get anything done, and said so
with their vote. Democrats are not patriots. They don't care what
happened on 9/11. Dash-hole tried everything he could to stop Bush
from protecting the Homeland. Now we can finally move ahead of
partisan politics and get something done in this country.

He does not know what a real American is.

In Minnesota we elected an idiot into the Senate because the other
canidate was killed in a plane crash. The person that the Democrats
put in place was old but still very qualified. Not very appealing to
the MTV crowd you know.

Norm Coleman has nice hair like Kennedy did. He must think that with
nice hair he could run the country. But is a meat puppet of Junior.
George has his hand up his butt and making ol' Normie say what ever
Georgie wants.

No one was pigeon-holed Curtis. There is nothing wrong with voting
Republican. If that is the view that you have then so be it. I will
stand and say what I think is right and I will not be pigeon-holed
either. I am just pointing out that there is a jerk on the board and
making sure that my views are known.

Oh Gawd,

Chris if you are talking about the Alamo, you are so full of crap
that you have completely discredited yourself. First off, it was a
seige not a battle. Second there may have been 30 Texans but there
were more missonaries and just plain folks there who also got their
asses kicked.

Not only did they loose, they were all burned in a funeral pyre that
caused the ground itself to burn from the fat running off of the
bodies.

No insult I hurl your direction could do more damage than you have
done for your beloved state.

fred

The Alamo went as follows: taken from

http://www.thealamo.org/historicpast.html

Originally named Misi—n San Antonio de Valero, the Alamo served as
home to missionaries and their Indian converts for nearly seventy
years. Construction began on the present site in 1724. In 1793,
Spanish officials secularized San Antonio's five missions and
distributed their lands to the remaining Indian residents. These men
and women continued to farm the fields ÷ once the mission's but now
their own ÷ and participated in the growing community of San Antonio.

In the early 1800s, the Spanish military stationed a cavalry unit at
the former mission. The soldiers referred to the old mission as the
Alamo (the Spanish word for cottonwood) in honor of their hometown
Alamo de Parras, Coahuila. The post's commander established the first
recorded hospital in Texas in the Long Barrack. The Alamo was home to
both Revolutionaries and Royalists during Mexico's ten-year struggle
for independence. The military ÷ Spanish, Rebel, and then Mexican ÷
continued to occupy the Alamo until the Texas Revolution.

San Antonio and the Alamo played a critical role in the Texas
Revolution. In December 1835, Ben Milam led Texian and Tejano
volunteers against Mexican troops quartered in the city. After five
days of house-to-house fighting, they forced General Mar’n Perfecto
de C—s and his soldiers to surrender. The victorious volunteers then
occupied the Alamo ÷ already fortified prior to the battle by C—s'
men ÷ and strengthened its defenses.

On February 23, 1836, the arrival of General Antonio L—pez de Santa
Anna's army outside San Antonio nearly caught them by surprise.
Undaunted, the Texians and Tejanos prepared to defend the Alamo
together. The defenders held out for 13 days against Santa Anna's
army. William B. Travis, the commander of the Alamo sent forth
couriers carrying pleas for help to communities in Texas. On the
eighth day of the siege, a band of 32 volunteers from Gonzales
arrived, bringing the number of defenders to nearly two hundred.
Legend holds that with the possibility of additional help fading,
Colonel Travis drew a line on the ground and asked any man willing to
stay and fight to step over ÷ all except one did. As the defenders
saw it, the Alamo was the key to the defense of Texas, and they were
ready to give their lives rather than surrender their position to
General Santa Anna. Among the Alamo's garrison were Jim Bowie,
renowned knife fighter, and David Crockett, famed frontiersman and
former congressman from Tennessee.

The final assault came before daybreak on the morning of March 6,
1836, as columns of Mexican soldiers emerged from the predawn
darkness and headed for the Alamo's walls. Cannon and small arms fire
from inside the Alamo beat back several attacks. Regrouping, the
Mexicans scaled the walls and rushed into the compound. Once inside,
they turned captured cannon on the Long Barrack and church, blasting
open the barricaded doors. The desperate struggle continued until the
defenders were overwhelmed. By sunrise, the battle had ended and
Santa Anna entered the Alamo compound to survey the scene of his
victory.

While the facts surrounding the siege of the Alamo continue to be
debated, there is no doubt about what the battle has come to
symbolize. People worldwide continue to remember the Alamo as a
heroic struggle against overwhelming odds ÷ a place where men made
the ultimate sacrifice for freedom. For this reason the Alamo remains
hallowed ground and the Shrine of Texas Liberty.

Bush got all of the lapdogs he needs in congress. There will be no

[biofuel] Re: A trip through retrofit hell...and mushrooms

2002-09-26 Thread fatguy1966

Kirk,

I have about all of the literature that you can have on growing
fungus. I like to joke that I have have hands of stomach and
everything I touch turns to shit, so it is good to grow mushrooms
then.

Hydrogen Peroxide is good if you like to play with tissue transfers
and do not want to spend a ton of money of things like a laminar flow
station. I have spent a ton of money and use the laminar flow
station for a lot of different things like plant tissue cultures and
yeast cultivation for brewing. I have Rush Wayne's book on the
subject. E-mail me off-list and I can give you some detail.

If you are looking for something like spawn for mass innoculaton
there are several places where spawn is available.

The mushroom cultivation book to check out:

Growing Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms - By Paul Stamets.

He is sort of the Gruru of cultivation. His views of psychedelics
may be contrarian but his techniques are state of the art in
cultivation. He also have a business called Fungi Perfecti
(http://fungi.com). He sells just about anything and everything for
mushrooms. There are also several other spawn dealers who are
cheaper in price but Stamets backs up his spawn with either money or
replacements.

The thing I like is that after you are done growing on the substrate
it could be placed in a methane digester for heat and fuel. (I have
met Keith's requirement of keeping this in the scope of Biofuels with
this paragraph so as to keep this on the list.)

Let me know if there is more that you want to know,

fred

[biofuel] Got a Truck!!!

2002-01-09 Thread fatguy1966

Okay,

While I am in mid purchase of a 1983 Ford Ranger with a Mazda 2.2
litre diesel engine, I am hoping if there is someone out there who can
answer some questions that I have.

To start, does anyone know if there is a shop or garage that would
have parts for this little beast? The closer to Minnesota the better
(Dana?). In the event that there are repairs or a new engine is
required I would like to have a one stop for either.

Secondly, Does anyone know what kind of injector pump this may have.
The position of the pump does not make it easy to see the information
placard.

Finally, I would like to thank everyone for all of the information I
have not decided if I want to make my own Biodiesel or convert to SVO
or both. All I know is I have a place to start and a truck to start
it with. (--- notice the typical MN ending on a sentance with a
preposition)
