Hi, Is there any backyard Biodiesel makers in the Michigan area that can help me. I am having a problem that I just can't get figured out. I would like to talk or meet with you to see if you can tell me what I am doing wrong. I have made some fuel and had no problems doing it and all of a sudden I can't get it to work. I am about 45 minutes south of Jackson, 1.5 hours southeast of Lansing (where 2 of my children live so I get there more than I would like), about 1.25 hours east of Toledo, Ohio and about 1-1.5 hours east of Angola, Indiana. I am near the town of Morenci out in the boonies. Adrian is the closes larger city near to us (about 35 minutes). I am interested in networking and exchanging info/sources for the immediate area. Offlist I would think but keeping in mind that anything in which others on the list may be interested should be posted. My oldest daughter, Leni, is an environmental scientist living near Lansing. She lives with another girl, Loretta, who she went to school and then college with. Loretta is a chemist and works for one of the chemical plants in the Lansing area. She is checking on prices for KOH and methanol for me (as well as sulphuric acit). According to her since I am the head of a 501(c)(3) (non-profit) and will be buying the stuff for the organization she can get me a really low price for it. I can get it by the cup, drum or bulk delivers of 1000 gallons or more. If anyone within shouting distance wants to contact me feel free. I should have the exact prices by Wednesday of this week. Hallo Folks, For those of you living in Michigan who may have missed my initial messages let me reiterate something. In Michigan it is AGAINST THE LAW to haul WVO without the proper HAZMAT licenses. This means that if you are caught you are up for some big fines and so is the person who gave or sold you the waste oil. Do not be stupid about what you are doing. Be careful, don't spill any anywhere and definitely protect your sources. You don't want to get some kind soul in trouble with the law, or yourself either for that matter. IF you buy your oil from someone who has already paid the outrageous fees for hauling the biodegradable substance then you have no restrictions. If you live close to a state without such stupid restrictions (as I do to Ohio) then you don't have a problem either. In any case just be careful and protect both yourself and your source. Stupid laws are still laws and if you piss someone off, particularly someone who has paid all that money to haul the oil, then you may be reported and targeted. CYA (cover your asses) folks. I don't think my Lye and Methanol mixed right. I got 5 gal of Methanol from the internet. It was expensive but I just wanted to get started to see if I could do it. [biofuel] Michigan Biodiesel makers?
Hi again, I am a newbie to the Biodiesel and am about to try my first attempt to make some. I have new oil and about 10 gal of WVO. I am going to try some blender batches of the new oil first and then try my hand at the WVO. I was wondering if anyone in the Michigan area was doing any of this so I could contact them. I am finding out this is a very large list and just to clarify where Michigan is I am in the USA. I am sure most already know. I am really amazed at how many different areas this list covers. Install a 2-tank Straight Renewable Oil (SRO) system. Then you have less biodiesel to make and lots of flexibility in winter. You can run biodiesel/SRO blend in winter in your SRO tank to thin it and compensate for less heat from engine. You can then start up and shut down on winter diesel in main tank even in cold. Michigan winter. You can also use a filter heater (the TDI already has a filter heating circuit so does not need one.) We have some components available now. May have demo farm near Detroit soon if all goes well. Also delivering a Mercedes to near Pt. Huron (Sarnia, ON) that will be set up with an SRO system. Next month or so.
