Re: [swinog] SafeHost AS21217 accused to leak routes for two hours to China Telecom AS4134 - anyone from SafeHost to comment?

2019-06-09 Diskussionsfäden Will van Gulik
Hi Fredy and list,

Interesting one, I'm not aware that SafeHost's noc is around on the
list. Also, from what I see Safehost doesn't peer anywhere, so that
looks more like route manipulaiton , like someone injecting a route that
looks that it's from AS21217 . Or worse, overly fat fingers or routing
optimization tools.

We have something to look at during our rainy long week end ;)

Well, wasn't what Alexander & Nils said during their talk (

At least that was my understanding, but I might be missing some specifics as I

[swinog] Ripe Probes @SwiNOG-28 (6th may 2015)

2015-04-30 Diskussionsfäden Will van Gulik
Hi Swinogers,

Like at last Swinog, I'll have a small amount of Atlas probe with me.

Here is the link to the project, that most of you know and which is
really useful for the community : https://atlas.ripe.net/

I would like to give away probes for ASNs who doesn't have one yet,
because I think there are many in most of the usual Swiss eyeballs networks.

If you have any questions, just follow the link above, contact me, or
ping me at Swinog. It's easy to spot me, I (also) speak French.

And if you know you want/need one, just reply me with your ASN and I'll
put one aside for you.

See you all on the mountain ! :)

Hi Pim,

First, I'm thinking that 16 hours and 2 (other) guys for 3 servers and
some network devices looks a bit heavy.

Maybe that's what they are counting for the time spent for those two guys.

My point of view is that if they act like that after a long work period,
it might be a place/company to avoid.

However if you don't have pending bills, I don't see why they are
charging you for extraction, that's really non sense.

The Netopia VDSL[1] thingies that Swisscom gives along with the VDSL
offer works like a charm over here. I just disabled the wireless on it
(as I could not manage it and hey, that is not the way to do it) and put
it into bridge mode and indeed have a Linux box behind it for IPv4 NAT
and IPv6 tunneling, nice clean 1480 path to the PoP ;)

Otherwise you might want to look at the new AVM 7570 box, that one can
even do IPv6 (with some quirks like no static routing yet but it does
work ;) even supports TIC+heartbeat.

For that matter, just cut down the list to everything that does support
IPv6 and skip the rest as that is then not a good investment.

I can recommend hardware from PC Engines [2] on where you can run different

Hi Xaver

Meistens kann man auf dem Cablemodem Webinterface die
Up-/Downstream Frequenzen und HF-Pegel anschauen.
Versuch mal mit dem Browser auf http://192.168.100.1 zu

Depending on the distance you have between the two points, you can use
some sdsl modems that are supposed to reach 4 or 5 mb. Over 2 pairs you
can reach 9 mb ...

I Guess Tahoe have some that does that, don't know about the others ...

By the way, I'd be curious if there are other products that can achieve

Anyone ?

That's easily possible, if you have both end points under your
controller. You will need a device which is capable of mixing
the datastream.

Depending on your budget and application, you can use two Linux
or *BSD based machines with some SDSL Bridges (e.G. ZyXEL), or
you can buy a router appliance equipped with two SDSL cards and
the appropiate licenses.

If you need the latter, talk with the presales support of your
distributor, they can tell you which products can fulfill your
needs.

If you are on a limited budget, you might try the first variant.
This needs more technical expertise, though.

Hi,

I'll just throw my frenchy point of view.

I like that blog news ideas quite much, I spend throwing links on irc
(ok not #swinog) all day long anyway

But the problem that keeps me away from those, I guess, interessting
news, is that they are in german. And sorry about that, but I'm still
not able to read that language correctly.

So what about pasting something (on irc why not) worldwide readable ? ;)

PS : That may also be why I'm not on #swinog anymore, btw ... :)

Please go on with your Blogg.ch, it's always very interesting and

OK, the posting of the URLS into this mailing list is maybe not the
right choice... maybe in IRC?

How are the others thinking?

Re: [swinog] Visit of Billag AG at home !

Hi,
As I can remember Sam hasn't got a car :)
I own a car and didn't plugged the antenna so I m unable to receive any
FM Radio and so on. My building hasn't any antenna connection to cable
or whatever.

But I'm lucky, I towed the guys from Billag a long time ago, and I guess
i still have the mail where they told me I wasn't in the need to pay.
But that was in fact before that * stupid addition * (my 2 cents ;) )
regarding the broadband access.

Maybe telling billag you have a pc, but have no microsoft or
userfriendly software and any media viewer, as you are using your
internet connection only for professional matters (as monitoring etc)
could work.

The fact is, Nul n'est sens ignorer la loi , but c'est tellement
marrant de jouer avec la loi quand on y arrive :) (yeah I'm getting
low cost, 1,5 cents for that one only)

Gimme a ring, or meet me for a beer if you have anymore question about
that ...

BTW everything must be on the billag website, and I can remember we
disscussed that some time ago on the list.

Cheers.
Will.

hi sam
some weeks/months ago we all got a nice letter (little booklet) from billag
which explained the whole stuff.
unfortunately i haven't got it at home.
but they say that a broadband connection and windows pc with media player (or
anything similar) can act as a radio and therefore you'll have to pay.
but anyway: do you got a car? does this car has a radio? if yes: you have to
pay anyway ;-)) maybe you can take the billag then on expenses ;-))

Subject: [swinog] Visit of Billag AG at home !

Hi all,
Sorry for my english !
Yesterday evening I had the visit of Billag AG at home. I have neither TV ,radios. I have just ADSL. I say to him that some time I to listen to the radios on the Internet.
Cost it wanted to make me pay the royalty for the radios. Because I had a broad-band connection and a PC!!!
I shine request papers official on what it wanted to tax me, it unfortunately had anything on him has to present to me.

3 slanging match after !
I say to him that when www.couleur3.ch is typed I have the radios without
anything asked and without warned that I must pay billag to listen.
It is to retract in me say that I had the subscription that it thought.
It thought that I had the subscription of bluewin Internet + radios.
Who has a url with these law of billag??
Regards
sam

Wooups.
So this is only a french thing ?
Does this means that, as long as your unaware of the fact you should be
paying Billag for a broadband access, you're not in a illegal situation ?

I have to re-read all those documentation sent. Thanks for the links
guys, I was missing a lot of content about that subject.

In fact, this doesn't exist in Switzerland.
