Meh. 3 hours in, every possible lead I had didn't bring me closer to
setting up the UPRN data in the same way.

Having 6 GiB of GeoPackage or 2 GiB of MySQL data doesn't make working
with the data any easier.

I will look out for help from the GeoServer people during the week,
watch this space :)

Re: [Talk-GB] Maps on BBC Radio 4

2020-07-05 Thread Dan S
Hi all,

Just to let you all know - I was interviewed for this programme. The
producer is putting together a "part two" of sorts, since they had
more material than would fit into a single 30 minutes. I think the
second programme will go into OSM in a bit more depth (though, still
from the perspective of HOT, since they've interviewed some
humanitarian OSM users in the field). No idea when it airs, but I'll
try to remember and post about it!

Best
Dan

This worked for me to import a copy of the USRN GeoPackage file into my
local OSM database:

ogr2ogr -f PGDump -s_srs EPSG:27700 -t_srs EPSG:3857 \
osopenusrn_202007.sql osopenusrn_202007.gpkg

Is it possible that your installation of GDAL doesn't include support
for the GPKG vector driver?

Naive question - can that be added as a layer in JOSM? If so, how?

Yes and no. The UPRN data is also available as a GeoPackage (just like
USRN), yet when I tried this morning, I was unable to make to GeoServer
deliver the data correctly.

Just out of interest, is there any simple way to export data from
GeoPackage (eg, to GML or GeoJSON) via the command line on Linux? I've
tried ogr2ogr, but that doesn't seem to recognise GeoPackage as a
source. I can do it manually by loading it into QGIS desktop and then
exporting it, but I'd prefer something I can automate.

Naive question - can that be added as a layer in JOSM? If so, how?

Good afternoon everyone.

Please find every information you need to add the USRN to your JOSM here:

https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/User:Kmpoppe#WMS_Tile_Server_for_OS_OpenData_USRN_.28July_2020.29

Now that I have a working GeoServer that believes it's user interface
shall speak English, I can also start working on a documentation on how
to set up the server yourself. I'll also put that up on my Wiki page.

Hope this is useful to anyone.

Re: [Talk-GB] Maps on BBC Radio 4

2020-07-05 Thread SK53
Radio 4 have certainly covered OSM in the past. Kat Arney attended a hack
day in London back in 2013 iirc and interviewed a few participants: Robert
Scott was the one who made it to the on-air programme.

Something like a segment on Countryfile about footpath mapping might work,
but having seen this happen it requires a great deal of legwork beforehand.

I've talked before about OSMUK having a role as an industry 'lobby group',
ie being the business-accessible face of OSM in the UKmaybe we should
be pushing this further with the media and with government?

[Talk-GB] USRN data in JOSM as a background layer

2020-07-05 Thread Kai Michael Poppe - OSM
Good morning list!

Whilst investigating another matter I found, that you could host your
own WMS (Web Map Service) Server with the cross-platform software
GeoServer and then add this to your JOSM as a background layer.

Now the USRN Geopackage from OS only contains the ref:GB:usrn (is this
offical now?) and not a name but that way you could see where streets
are and what their ID is and check this against the current map.

I haven't had the time to write a tutorial yet, but will do so later
today and then put it out to download for you all.

Additionally, I'll try to setup a server in my small farm to host this
for everyone. If I could manage this, I'll write to the list again.
