Please share any resource you have because I only know how to position
aerial images in JOSM via pictlayer plugin. But all images used this way
need to be orthophoto images.

I don't have any idea how to turn images shot at an angle to orthophoto
images.

Thank you in advance.

Arent photos from 45 degrees much harder to use than aerial photos shot

What should I do after I shoot photos from 45 degrees angle? How do I
make orthophotos from them?

They are a little harder to process and will generate a larger fault;
but it can be done this way.

Most important thing is creating ground control points. Make sure you
have visually identifiable objects on the ground that you can use to get
as gps coordinates that are as *exact* as possible

I know that you are a bit left in the blind as not the entire process is
well documented, I will try to see if something can be done about this.

Basically define a shape in the ground plane you photograph, a square is
usually the most suited. you know that the square on the photo is a
projection from the square that you see from the top.

by selecting the square, it is possible to create a transformation matrix
that tilts and rotatess that square back. at the cost of non-uniformpixel
density. tricky parts are lense correction.

tools like efoto and the opencv code tijs created for signfinder do this
already. what lacks for us is the GPS (outer corner alignment) to put it
into a WMS using a world file.

I will test hugin on it by chopping it in smaller pieces, some that are
overlaping, rotate some of them and them let hugin do it's magic.

I'm hoping to get one Mikrokopter and use it to get the images, but
before that I would like to have at least one part of tool chain ready.

Does anybody have a better idea or some suggestions?

Cheers!

I don't have any experience with hugin but I think that test would be a
relatively easy job for it.
The different perspectives on real photos would be way more difficult.

 - Have you made aerial photos with Mikrokopter?

Yup.

 - What software do you use to stitch photos into one high resolution?

We were using Hugin.

 - What software do you use to calibrate stitched photo so that it is
correctly gps positioned and that users can trace over it?

We can rectify the photos either with our own tool as well with other
tools like efoto. By placing it in a WMS the positions are set.

This is theoretical and conceptual and has not been done yet in practice.
We have contact information of parties that *DO* have the instructions
regarding flying and flight preparation to take the steps necessary to
be able to convert QC aerialphoto's to georectified ortho imagery usable
for GIS and mapping, but I am not sure their entire toolchain is open
source.

Kind regards,

Milo
