Wrote a bit too quick... they're stored indeed in its own folder each, but under
an automatically new created account "RSS Subscriptions".
I tried to create them as part of an existing mail-account where they would fit
contentually.
That failed.

Will try that. Thanks. However, it may need some 'investifation'.
The last filters I created must be some 5 years ago. :-)

The PC on which The Bat! runs, connects every three minutes for mail at the
server
for all my accounts. When I switch to that PC the mail is already there.

> Otherwise, you need to play with the sorting office filters

Tried that, setting a mail read flag. Now checking if that works.

Still don't know, why Antispamsniper does not its job here, although I marked
many dozens of spam mails with identical adresses as spam. I have to move
all spam to the junk folder by hand. But that's another chapter. :-)

It helped, the problem is solved.
(Creating a new folder, copying all messages from the problem folder

This happens to me too, also in almost all social media. and it is not
because I travel, but because I use VPN. Such confirmations are just
short, nonetheless, it is annoying getting that every day, even more

Major problems

2017-06-27 Thread Goos

Some solving suggestions would be welcome ...

Because my work PC is not 100 % stable anymore, I bought a new one.
Both PCs are running under Windows 10 Pro 64 bit.
While slowly installing / transferring my programs from the old to the new PC,
I did the same with The Bat!.
First I did a clean install with the package thebat_64_7.4.16 msi.
Because I had the registration keyblock in the clipboard memory, the program was
easy registered.
Then I restored the backup made with The Bat! at the old PC, to get back alll
settings and mail.

Two problems appeared:

1. For all accounts TB writes in the logs:
27-Jun-17, 11:57:50: FETCH - receiving mail messages
27-Jun-17, 11:57:50: FETCH - Connecting to POP3 server on port
995
!27-Jun-17, 11:57:51: FETCH - Could not connect to the server
The connections are all using TLS.

Although the program is accepted by my AVG Total Protection (which settings are
exactly
the same as at the old PC) and my other protection programs (which are also
identical),
no connection could be established, not even after the programs were
deactivated temporary.

2. Sometimes directly, sometimes after few minutes The Bat! is closed by
Windows, I did
not find some error.log by Windows, don't know where to look for that exactly.
The thebat64_Exceptions.log writes:

Well, I thought, I'd better to uninstall The Bat! completely, so ran the
uninstall.
Then looked for left files and deleted them.
Also deleted the TBMail directory.
Then I let CCleaner Pro clean up the registry. After a reboot I ran that .msi
(see above)
again. I was quite astonished as I saw that TB still had some configuration
from the
previous install. From where?

Anyone who can give me a hint to solve this all?

Whether or not a coincidence. :-)

For those who can read German RitLabs published at their Facebook page
information with a good (silent) step-by-step instruction video how to setup
and use S/MIME the built-in encryption:

I do not know if this is also available in English, neither do I have got

The main issue for me is, that it is not understandable how it works,
what exactly to do to get it working, and that it does not work intuitive
or even already is implemented in The Bat.
You've really to dive in it.

> As long as everybody tells you that to encrypt mails (with GnuPG or
> other tools) is so complicated nothing will change - you are right.
> But with gpg4win it is now quite simple to enable clients (TheBat,
> Thunderbird, ClawsMail and more) to use GnuPG.

For YOU it may be simple, for ME it is complicated. OK, installing is
easy, but the next steps aren't. Why I need a public and a private
key, and how to configure things in The Bat to get it all working at
writng and receiving encrypted mails.
As I in my previous mails wrote about making two different templates,
you wrote:
In the editor window when you edit your message you can
push the button if you want to sign or / and encrypt the
 message.
THE button? It did not help me. Which button, where to find?
You also wrote:
send to the keyserver or your mail partners.
Again: Keyserver? Which keyserver? Where? What does it cost?
OK, I was not motivated anymore to put those questions. No need
anymore to answer them.

After I also had made some remarks in Facebook, I've got last evening
a test mail from a guy which included a PGP key. So I reinstalled
temporarily GnuPG but that did not make the mail more readable.
I did not know what to do with that mail first and neither had the
stimulus to find it out.

As I wrote before.
IF a real step-by step instruction from installing onto having sent
and received enxrypted mail, I may have succeeded. For example,
starting with:
STEP 1:
Open your browser and copy/paste this link in it to call this site:
 https://gpg4win.org/download.html
STEP 2:
Goto the map on your computer where that file is saved and click on it
to install the program:
STEP 3:
While installing your are prompted for .
etc. etc. going on to send an encrypted mail to someone and receiving
one where all works.

On the other hand, the often made remark RTFM is the right way for me
to drop it.

> But it is true, prejudices are hard do brake.

That is a thought-terminating cliché, not worth discussing it.

Yet, it is al relative...
For me, working with Adobe Indesign has become easy and understandable.
But in the beginning there was such a step-by-step instruction to get
that program working and an excellent community where I could ask
my 'dummy' beginner questions which were all the time friendly and
easy and instructive answered. That motivated to go on.

OK, further discussion is pointless for me, as I removed all GnuPG stuff
now and am satisfied with VPN.

This will be a little longer

At first the GnuPG program did not install correctly, due to my protection
tools. I had to delete it and clean the registry and then, after a reboot, a
new install succeeded because I then was prepared to make whitelist entries
in those tools.
Then keys had to be created. I did not understand why two of them, which
costed time to read a manual - it is not really intuitive.
Then The Bat had to be changed - I had to make templates for all my
accounts; each time a template which did use the encryption and one
who didn't. That failed. Before I did not work with templates at all,
just took TB as it was installed. Only years ago I added a macro that
someone posted here and wrote where exactly to put it. Think, it was
MAU.
But further, I am not experienced at all with those functions of TB
not interested in it.
Then I tried similar at another email program with another
emailaddress to have at least some keys to exchange. I did not know
how to implement them - had to search again where and how to handle
that - meanwhile I was already completely demotivated by that all.
I also failed to make there templates.

Because I did not find a simple step-by-step instruction what where
and when to do - I did not get such a help here - I asked for it in a social
medium. Someone there offered my a free Skype course in PGP (not how
to handle it in The Bat), but advised me to let it and to get VPN.
I still do not really understand the function of those encryption
programs, but simply followed Max' suggestion to install GnuPG as I
asked which PGP tool I should install best. I even had to ask here
whether gpg4win was the tool Max meant.

Then, no one of the people who I asked it for, was willing to use
GnuPG or some other PGP tool - they also had negative experiences -
too much time, too much to read and understand.

I followed that VPN advise, accepted the offer from NordVPN and, with a
little direct help from them (via a live chat on their site) the whole thing was
done and running within ten minutes, while that GnuPG was not working in TB
for days.

That's it.
Implementing PGP in The Bat and getting it all working is complicated
for someone who just wants his email more protected, but who is not
really interested in lots of installing, configuring, reading docs and
manuals and trying out such technical things.

 Well, I had.
 What a rigmarole!
Getting GnuPG working is laborious and quite time-consuming
and because I could not find a good beginners help, I gave up and

Moreover, I do not know how to organize it automated

to use it with those who don't.
Neither do I know if it also works when people use another

Anyway, I wrote simple mails to some people proposing to

Instead, two of them counter-proposed to use VPN.

Resuming, I have to admit, that encrypting mail is still a
complicated issue for someone who does not know the

since I in vain tried it some 5 years ago.
Well, at least, secure sending and recieving does work.

I am sorry, but I cannot answer most of your questions, as I am myself
struggling through these things. That message with the PGP
keyblock even wasn't correct; the signature macro should not
be visible. In fact, I don't know really how to create a predefined
template for new messages with macros in it and I neither do know
how really to call the footer file with the text and keyblock. It was
in the message by unexpected luck, but I did not know how I did it.

That etiquette seems to have been 'disappeared'; at least, many
messages I get, both private and commercial have big footers of
different kind. Some with lots of text, others with pictures.

May be possible, but not a problem I met yet.

Dunno. I simply choose GnuPG because of Maxim's advise... even without
asking why he advised that one. :-)

For the VPN possibility I got offered, a registration at some webpage
for it is necesary and I do not want that. Don't know if it is possible without
a third party.

Sorry, I'm not a big help.

Trying to create a footer in which recievers of my mail are invited

Is there an easy way to automate that, or do I have to add manually

Already for many years I failed to implement PGP in my email correspondence.
However, I am a step further now, but still things are not ready yet.

First, the GNU-PG manager needed to be added to the 'allowed' programs'
in the security programs one uses. Except for the AVG-Suite I have the
three tools from WinPatrol. After the PGP-manager was whitelisted in those
tools, it started and I could create my PGP keys.

Second, with the help of the https://www.ritlabs.com/en/support/help/75/#6660
site, I could export the Public Key to a file.

Third
In TB, under Account - Properties - Options I checked the options
Sign when completed
Enable OpenPGP
I hope, the Public key will be added now as a footer to any message in
this account.

But fourth..
I do not understand this really.
Can I now encrypt any message or only those to people who also use
PGP?
Do I have to contact them all first to ask that?

Hoping to get a helpful answer,

PGP 5.5x plug-in
PGP 6.0x / 6.5x plug in
GNU Privacy guard (GPG)
PGP 5,6,7,8,9,10 (built-in support)

But which one should I take?
AFAIK, none of my frineds, relatives, etc. uses any of them. I need
the one I can also propose to them being the easiest one to use for

If that would the only problem, but many messages aren't even

Antispamsniper

2016-12-08 Thread Goos

Hi,

Antispamsniper obviously marks many mails as spam which I did not
mark myself so. Among them are even mails for which I was waiting,
like order confirmations by Amazon.

My TB has separate folders for Amazon, Ebay, Facebook, etc. When I
got mails there I delete them after reading. When I've done that for
awhile, Antispamsniper marks those mails as spam according to its
logfile.

This is really problematic.I do not have time to check each day that
logfile and undelete mails.

So, I could use some advise how to solve this problem.

Kind regards,
Guus

I want to update my Antispamsniper for the Bat.
At the website of the program there's a free version and a
pro version.
The problem is, I don't know (anymore) which of the two versions I
have.
In ma program, under 'About' it states that the program is registered

on the other hand, I do not see the term 'Pro' for the commercial
version.
Any tips?

Re: Encryption

Hi MFPA,

thanks for the info.

As an alternative to OpenPGP, another email encryption method The Bat!
can handle is called S/MIME. S/MIME

I've found the Comodo site to get a free s/mime certificate.
But I don't understand configuring it in TB in the S/Mime TLS
preferences window.

In the address book I can at each user import a certificate, but which
one? The public one I get from them or my private one?

Sigh... in short.. I simply don't understand this and the Help info
from TB looks to me cryptic too.
Isn't there a kind of helping wizard, telling me step by step what to
do without the need of understanding what I did? :-)

Mail

2013-02-03 Thread Gunivortus Goos
Hello,

not very often but too much, TB doesn't get all waiting mails on the
mailserver. Mails from different senders, sometimes in html, sometimes
in text-only.
After a few really important mails didn't arrive and one sender called
me by phone asking why I didn't answer, I logged on directly at the
mailserver with a browser and indeed, there were mails waiting, not
even seen by TB's mail dispatcher.
First I asked the server admin, he checked and didn't find a problem
so he advised me to install for testing purposes another mailclient.
I installed Sylpheed 3.3, configured the mail account and the waiting
mails on the server which TB 'ignored(?), arrived at my computer.

What could cause this in TB?
I really don't know where to start searching the problem.

That is always configured to delete at once after downloading.
Those few mails however stay in the inbound at the server until the

Crash

2013-01-27 Thread Gunivortus Goos
Hi,

writng this from the computer of my wife

where in the The Bat settings can I find my registration key?

Reason:
after my computer ran in terrible hardware problems, it went back to the shop
and they tested it and replaced several hardware parts.
Unfortunately they also destroyed the operating system (Windows 8 Pro)at
my system disk and erased my second disk with all my data to install Linux for
those tests.
Acronis was unable to restore a backup from an external harddisk.
The excuse from the company doesn't really help.

Through a repair disk I at least have access to the application and user files
and I already could find some reg keys, but not the one from The Bat.
Once I've found all keys from my software, I can setup the PC from scratch

Kind regards,

Hi David,

where in the The Bat settings can I find my registration key?

 It is in the registry.

Thought so... but where?

I have just had to a crash repair, and did the following
 Install TB!
 Restore from a backup
 Install key from mail.

As I wrote, Acronis can't access the image from an external
harddisk. And the whole mailbase was involved - the repair
company simply formatted the second drive to install Linux there.
So my only chance is to restore the key from the registry if I knew
where to find it.

Any of you who can recommendate such a program, that

I never heard of an antivirus that did not work with TB!.

The open source Clamwin doesn't anymore. The main program itself can't
handle the TB database files well, it's focused on the kind of database, where
not all mails are stored within one file. The 3rd party plugin for TB was a
good solution, but stopped working last week as the core program got a major
update. And the author, who updated the plugin in 2007 for the last time wrote
me:
I have to admit that TBClamWin isn't a priority for me at the
moment.
I will be more than happy to update it in the future, and make
sure
it's working fine, but I cannot make any promise about dates
time
  frames.

From the suggestions I've got here, I choose the free AVG 9, which has a
TB plugin. I choose mainly the free one, because now I can quietly wait
for a Clamwin plugin update. If that comes, I'll go back to Clamwin.

@all: Thanks a lot for your recommendations!

You may find that your antivirus protects you even if it is not
 specifically linked to the Bat.
I use Avast and it seems to give protection for email. If you don't
want a separate antivirus, Comodo has a full security suite including
 antivirus etc.

Yes I know, I've used both some stand-alone antivirus tools and complete
security suites. The last one was the PCTools Internet security.
When they detect a virus, it's often moved to some quarantaine directory.
If I wants to know more, I've to minimize TB, open the antivirus software and
search for the quarantaine items. With a TB-plugin, it can all kept inside TB,
f.i. forwarded to 'self', etc.
Then I can check much easier and faster who and what.

An hour ago I started testing the (free) Open Source Clamwin antivirus program
and the TBClamWin plugin.

SpamAssassin does the job on my server. A while, the greylisting was active,

were 'good' for me. It costs me too much time to add each of them to the
whitelist there, so I deactivated the greylisting and the SPAM which is not
detected by SpamAssassin is processed locally..

Many years I used for that the very good antispamsniper for The Bat!

My TB will be tranferred for that time to the notebook, including my mailbase,
D:\myTBase.
If I transfer also the mailbase of my wife (D:\herTBase), is there a
possibility, that TB reads both databases?

2009-03-16 Thread Gunivortus Goos
Hi Marck,

As it happens, it does affect the actual. The so-called Signature
delimiter is really called a Cut Mark. It is the point at which
signatures are cut off for an orderly reply.

This is remembering me for a question I already have a long time.
Is there any contra-sign, that recovers the situation from above the delimiter?
I used to write f.i. a P.S. below my signature. (If above, it wouldn't be really
a P.S.).

Note that listening in on phone conversations (and fax communications)

Except for Skype's IP-phonecalls, I experienced, they're obviously encrypted.

Re[2]: Speaking of signatures

2008-08-26 Thread Gunivortus Goos
Hi Gary Lucas,

There's a handy program for generating random cookies. It's called cookie
 jar and it's free.
 http://sourceforge.net/projects/kookiejar/

But in TB you don't need that, TB has a built-in option for cookies.
Just gather your favourite cookies in a plain ASCII file (a .txt file, f.i. made
with notepad) and save that somewhere, f.i. in your The Bat directory.
Then rightclick the mouse on a folder in the folder tree.
Choose 'Properties', then under Template 'New message'.
Put the cursor in the right window near above your sig delimiter, where you want
to appear the cookie, Then rightclick again and choose: 'Cookie from a file'
Then led the upcoming window to your cookies file.
Done.
Do the same with Reply under Template.

Hi Gary,

Yes, but Kookiejar manages the cookies and selects them randomly. I have
Kookiejar put a random cookie in cookie.txt every 5 min.

TBs macro grabs for every message randomly another cookie from the list.

If you want to pick them manually you can, but I have over 700 to pick from
now, I'm lazy, no right click is needed, and the randomness is actually fun.

..grin... I think maybe have even more.

Just curious... why are they called cookies nowadays?

In the old days we spoke of taglines. My big file of those nice, bizar,
wise, humorious, etc. sentences is still called tagfline.txt, I started with
it as I still was in the pre-internet network FIDO.

Filter

2008-04-26 Thread Gunivortus Goos
Hi,

my emailaddress is massive used for spreading spam, I get every day
lots of emails from for me unknown server, telling me some message I
should have sent some someone there, can't be delivered.
Now I want to make a filter for that. But I don't know how and what...
The used emailaddres (mine) is correct.
Often there's an unknowm name added, like:
 - From: hewett kalappa [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 - From: brand hugh [EMAIL PROTECTED]
 - From: Amazing Watches [EMAIL PROTECTED]
The 'recieved from' paths are of course wrong.
Lots of different servers send me bouncing and similar mails for it.

How could I filter them as spam, but 'good' returned mails exclude from it?

 Barca is a good option.

Mmmm. Stability is a basic option every email program
should have. :-)

What I still didn't find is a program that shows my dayly

Re: AGAVA AntispamServant

2007-01-12 Thread Gunivortus Goos
Hi Code 2,

I saw some 2005 postings in the archives regarding the AGAVA
AntispamServant spam filter and they were generally favourable.
Does anyone have more recent experience with it?

Till two weeks ago I used it for quite awhile.
It worked well, however, some comfortable options are
missing.
I left AGAVA, because my support requests weren't even
answered and so were questions for updates.

So I stepped over to antispamSniper,
http://antispamsniper.com/thebat_plugin.html
which provides all I want at the moment for such a
spamfilter. Within two weeks, it comes near to 100 %
of spamrecognition.

Check: Allow to edit this field in the Message Editor
 Uncheck the other two options.

GG I can't check the first two options. (They're lightgrey).
GG what do I have to do to get be able to edit it?

Odd. I didn't have to do anything special to be able to check those.
When I create a new header the defaults are set to:
 address: no
 edit: yes
 scrollable part: yes
 Are they different for you?

Yes. There's:
Mailer X-Mailer NoNoNo

First I wanted to change this, that wasn't possible.
Then I wanted to delete it and make a new one with
User-Agent in stead of X-Mailer, but deleting isn't
possible either.

The oddest thing I never created that Mailer - X-Mailer
myself, it was obviously as default made at the installation
of TB.

Re[2]: TB! still has negative image

Hi Roelof Otten,

You've got to create a new header with the settings I described. You
cannot delete the X-Mailer header, you were right in saying that TB
 installed that per default.
So create a new header, let it display as Mailer, never mind that TB
shows the X-Mailer as Mailer too, I've never seen a message with both
X-Mailer and User-Agent in the headers, so it's not likely to confuse
 them.

Brrr... now both are in the headers:

X-Mailer: The Bat! (v3.86.11 beta) Professional
Reply-To: Gunivortus Goos [EMAIL PROTECTED]
X-Priority: 3 (Normal)
Message-ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: Test Header
User-Agent: Die Fledermaus! v3.86.11 beta

In your mail there's no X-Mailer in the header.
