Right click on a toolbar or menubar and "Customise..." is in the context menu.

I found a setting in Account (properties) / Trabnsport / Protocol logging,

account properties on the new computer brought across the old path in there.

Most of my templates are at Address Book Group level. This has always
proved most effective. Folder level templates have always had unwanted
behaviours where the folder focused in the main UI can override that
of a message open in a browse window for a different folder. Although
that is a rare malfunction, it was enough to have me lean toward the

This content type was not included. It may be due to the fact that
HTML messages are against the list rules, so not sanctioned as a type.

I accept that this is 2020 and HTML email has become ubiquitous. In
order to move forward, I won't remove the "rule" that HTML is frowned

In the case of TBUDL, this seems to be happening regardless of size. I
have looked but the settings don't specify to do that. The hosting
server has shifted twice since we started to use the current rack. I
am not necessarily confident that the settings have ported correctly.

AS> famous "Current version is 8.0.18 | 'Using TBUDL' information" footer
AS> attached to all messages... Perhaps it is time for a maintenance?

This footer used to be maintained by admins every time a new release
came from RITlabs, often with a slight lag. Max asked to control this
automatically and this was being done for a while. Then they stopped
updating it. I guess it's down to me again. (I am the sole admin and
mod these days, everyone else having resigned from the list). Max took
it over because I was updating it when the MSI was released to TBBETA,
not in new the loop otherwise as to when a particular version became
the current release.

AS> Things that come to mind, in no particular order:

TBBETA has a 75kb limit and TBUDL 25kb.

I suggest 150 for TBBETA and 100 for TBUDL. Thoughts?

I will take back control (where have I heard that before?) of

That's a very large "NO". There are 2 distinct audiences - those who
test new features and those who want help with the current release
version as end users.

Having seen the other answers, I note that the actual working answer
hasn't been presented, so I'll give it a go.

a: create new filter with 2 conditions "Sender in Group A" or "Sender
in Group B" and no action.

b: Now create 3 Subfilters of that top level filter

   1) If sender in Group A copy to Folder A and continue processing
   2) If sender in Group B copy to Folder B and continue processing
   3) delete the message and stop.

This will give you the functionality you're looking for. I have many
nested and structured filters like this. They work well.

Oh - it is a complete recreation. Like I said, It took me ages. But I

But it really was such a worthwhile exercise in terms of multi-device

Actually - looking again, it's a mess!! I see messages in the list
that TB says are from me but, when I click on them, I see Maria or
Roelof are the actual senders in the From address on TBOT. I see a
transition in another list over the new year. A late December message
shows the "From" in an almost correct manner while a message from the
same individual in the same format with very similar headers is just
showing the list address as the "From".

I am adding a confirmation to the bug report.

Apologies for my incorrect analysis in the first place!

JSL> Thanks M. I'll see what happens.

Here's the lore:

Attachments (inc screen-shots) are perfectly acceptable (although HTML
messages are frowned upon because they invariably double the size of
any simple message and our transmission facilities are provided FOC by
a generous host, on whose generosity I /know/ none of us would wish to
over-impose).

...HOWEVER...

There are limits to the size of permitted attachments. 25k on TBUDL
and 75k on TBBETA. If your screen-shot is small enough, attach it by
all means. You can even chance it. The worst that can happen is an
automated rejection from the Mailman server.

I hope that clarifies things.

The TBUDL list has been set up for the purpose of discussing The Bat!
and how to use it. It is a community of users ready and able to help
new users get to grips with some of the capabilities of this flexible
email client. More complex issues are discussed on the TBTECH list
(see below for details).

Simply send messages to mailto:TBUDL@thebat.dutaint.com to send it to

See the notes at the end of this message for details about how to
manage your list membership or to leave the list.

~~
It would probably be a good idea for you to set up a folder to keep
TBUDL messages in. If you do this, the next most useful thing to have
in place is an automatic filter to move mail from your inbox into your
TBUDL folder.

Set up a filter for incoming mail which looks for:

Header Field [Reply-To] Contains [TBUDL@thebat]

~~
  The Roguemoticon Project
~~

It's nice to see your contact's face in the header ... and for them to
see yours. That's what roguemoticons are all about. If you wish to add
yourself, then you'll need to visit this site:
 http://www.pcwize.com/thebat
What this place will do for you is to allow you to create an account,
add your image and then let you download a .ZIP file containing all
the files you'll need to be able so see people's faces without having
to send or receive any real images in any messages.

To trigger the roguemoticon display in the message header for anyone
reading your message using TB, you have the choice of using the
X-Rogue: header or a signature trigger.

How to use a signature trigger
The image is triggered by a 'Handle' you've defined in your
account, and when that Handle appears in a message it gets
replaced on the client side by the corresponding image. A handle
could look like anything you want it to look like pretty much.
For example:
:Marck_Pearlstone:
Just add this text to your standard message signature block.

How to create the X-Rogue: header
You can do that with this macro:
%SetHeader('X-Rogue',':your_handle:')%- in your templates for
this and other tb-lists.
However, the macro alone won't do the trick.
TB'll say: 'Hey, that's not any RFC822 header I know about', so
you'll have to define it as such:
Options .. Preferences .. Messages .. Message headers .. 'Add'

Now you'll get a pop-up to define the header

Display as: X-Rogue (or whatever, it isn't very important)
  RFC header: X-Rogue
Uncheck: 'This field is an address list' (because it isn't)
Check: 'Allow this field to be edited in the message editor'
Uncheck: 'Display this field in the scrollable part of the
  header pane'

Now you're done and every TB-user can see your lovable face when
they've installed the roguemoticons.

For you to see peoples faces:

To get this going, you should be running TB! v2.12 or later. Fetch
  the following file:
  http://www.pcwize.com/thebat/smileys/Rogues.zip

Unzip it to the 'Images' directory that's in your TB! installation
  directory: C:\Program Files\The Bat!\Images
You should now have a directory called 'rogues' containing many
images as well as the file 'rogues.msl' in your Images directory.
Go into the preferences, and bring up the View/Editor options. Now
hit Shift-CTRL-Alt-T while TB! is in focus. This will re-fetch
TB!'s smiley set from disk and load the new images.

Within TB itself, select Options --> Preferences and click on
'Viewer/Editor and enable 'Use smiley icons in HTML editor'.

I didn't actually see the offending email. I think my own
(Silverstones) email server must have weeded it out before delivery.

There are no spam filters on the list server that I am aware of and if
an email arrives for distribution with a valid from address that is in
the membership list, there is no protection. I am not surprised it got
through. It won't be the fault of the owner of the from address as
these things are nearly always faked from sold spammer lists by the
sender.

Not at all in this instance. During March, Johannes contacted me to

containing all the files you'll need to be able so see people's
faces without having to send or receive any real images in any
messages.

At the time of writing HTML formatting had apparently been fixed in

Essentially, yes.

I wouldn't know whether or not they look "correct" since I haven't
compared. All I can say for certain is that this specific bug was
called out as a bug, addressed a month or so back in the beta version
and has been fixed. This fix has improved my personal reading of HTML
mails with embedded pictures to a point of near perfection rather than
sprawling the message to the width of the largest picture and not
scaling.

I'm not certain of the release state of the fixed version.

That's nothing to do with "Authentication". That's to do with
transport encryption, which is not the problem and is working fine
according to the logs you have sent here.

Next to the SMTP server name edit box is a button labelled
"Authentication" (or your local language variation on that word).
That's where your problem lies - in the options within.

My first guess would be that the hotel wifi blocks port 25 to prevent
guests spambot infested systems spewing junk from their connection.
Your mainstream accounts will likely be using SMTP over the secure 465
port, which is usually open for use on public networks. It is highly
possible that your personal domain email accounts are not configured
to use TLS, SLL or StartTLS so get blocked from using port 25.

TBUDL Mission Statement

2016-05-31 Thread Marck Pearlstone
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Greetings TB Listers,

This is your monthly message from the moderation team to remind you
of the primary purpose of this discussion list.

To review the list rules, follow the link at the end of this message.

Before posting a question to the list, please check The Bat! User's
FAQ at: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/FAQ.html and the list
archive at http://www.mail-archive.com/tbudl@thebat.dutaint.com. To
subscribe, send a message to mailto:tbudl-j...@thebat.dutaint.com.
There is also a beginners 'MAQ' (Most Asked Questions) available by
clicking here: mailto:mdae...@silverstones.com?body=GET%20MAQ and
sending the resulting message.

 TBUDL Mission statement

The TBUDL list has been set up for the purpose of discussing The
Bat! and how to use it. It is a community of users ready and able to
help new users get to grips with some of the capabilities of this
flexible email client. More complex issues are discussed on the
TBTECH list (see below for details).

Simply send messages to mailto:TBUDL@thebat.dutaint.com to send it
to the whole list.

See the notes at the end of this message for details about how to
manage your list membership or to leave the list.

It would probably be a good idea for you to set up a folder to keep
TBUDL messages in. If you do this, the next most useful thing to
have in place is an automatic filter to move mail from your inbox
into your TBUDL folder.

Set up a filter for incoming mail which looks for:

Header Field [Reply-To] Contains [TBUDL@thebat]

The Roguemoticon Project

It's nice to see your contact's face in the header ... and for them
to see yours. That's what roguemoticons are all about. If you wish
to add yourself, then you'll need to visit this site
http://www.pcwize.com/thebat
What this place will do for you is to allow you to create an
account, add your image and then let you download a .ZIP file
containing all the files you'll need to be able so see people's
faces without having to send or receive any real images in any
messages.

Not with forward, but if you use Reply then invoke a spamfwd quick
template that reformats the message using %text macros etc. then you
can get the functionality you are looking for.

It's actually only one extra step over having a safe forward
function and I think that's not too much overhead for the frequency of

Vive la difference! If every piece of software had exactly the same

I was also a one time Eudora user. There is nothing Eudora did that TB

Correct. That usually creates an ever growing reply chain full of
redundant information.

Because TB is a threading email client, it is easy to find references.
Despite the worldwide acceptance of top posting a quick response, it
is only really valid in an a context where a small number of committed
recipients are completely au-fait with the topic being discussed.

In a mass mailing list such as this, anybody interested in joining in
with the thread topic only reads a disjointed, out-of-context sound
bite at the top of a fully quoted message, giving the reader the added
duty of scrolling down to read previous statements and try to
determine context from there.

Imagine reading a joke like that:

,--/ Top posted joke \--
Terrible

 How does it smell?

 My dog has no nose
`--\ End /--

When reply to the TB list, the expectation is that you hit the Reply
button and trim out all extraneous text to reduce the quotes and any
response message to a highly legible synopsis and easy-to-read entry
point for anybody else wishing to help.

Top posting is a turn off when it comes to others chiming in.

Greetings TB Listers,

This is your monthly message from the moderation team to remind you
of the primary purpose of this discussion list.

To review the list rules, follow the link at the end of this message.

Before posting a question to the list, please check The Bat! User's
FAQ at: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/FAQ.html and the list
archive at http://www.mail-archive.com/tbudl@thebat.dutaint.com. To

What this place will do for you is to allow you to create an
account, add your image and then let you download a .ZIP file
containing all the files you'll need to be able so see people's
faces without having to send or receive any real images in any
messages.

Within TB itself, select Options -- Preferences and click on
'Viewer/Editor and enable 'Use smiley icons in HTML editor'.

Right. To clarify - '\n' as a literal within a single cookie line will
line-break the cookie when used from the macro. That was what I
thought you meant. And I was suggesting that replacing '\n' with br
should add a line break within the cookie line in an HTML template.

It was a guess, so I could be wrong.

My first and most likely suspect in this instance would be the IMAP
server software. When in IMAP mode, The Bat! can only show you what
the server tells it is available. I know that attachments I receive
come through exactly as I would expect them.

You should inspect the message source and check the headers in the
attachment section of the message, which should include some of e.g.

 Content-Type: application/octet-stream; name=part.att
 Content-Description: part.att
 Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=part.att; size=;

This would demonstrate that the server configuration is at fault by
forcing an inappropriate attachment name.

A I am still confused. This may be elementary, but I need some step by
A step hand-holding.

A If I create a mail message that I want to go to all 100 contacts in a
A group, what do I do to easily accomplish that?

You create your entire message as a Mass Mailing Template. These are
Quick templates, created in the Quick Template editor that have the
Mass Mailing Template checkbox ticked. The template will include the
macros for attribution and manipulation of the To field as well as the
entire body of the message you wish to send. You can get very clever
by using other fields of the address book to conditionally add or
remove whole paragraphs, but that means getting fairly sophisticated.

A The only way I know to get a mail message to automatically go to
A everyone in the group is to open up the address book, highlight the
A group and then click on new message. The group handle will appear
A in the to field followed by list

There is another way. In the Address book, highlight the group then,
from the Address book menu choose File - New - Mass Mailing using
Template. This will give you all the options you need to generate
individual emails to every member of the chosen group (or the
currently selected subset of specific entries) using the template you
wrote your mass mailing message template in.

A I tried to place %ABtoHANDLE %TOADDR in the to field, but that
A yielded an error message:

Yes - these are *template* macros. The clue here is the word
template, meaning they can only be correctly interpreted when used
in a template. I don't mean to patronize - just trying to help.

... snip

A What am I doing wrong?

Just work through the pointers above and you should be able to get
somewhere with it now.

2012-03-13 Thread Marck Pearlstone
Dear Geoff,

@13-Mar-2012, 08:12 Geoff Lane [GL] in
mid:1254644569.20120313081...@gjctech.co.uk said:

Hmm... Maybe this is a better example of a put down:
You are arrogant, self-centered and do not have a clue...

This is meant to be constructive to help you to treat people with
 respect.~~~

GL Although you don't know me, you might well be correct. So I'll thank
GL you for your comment and receive it with the spirit in which I infer
GL it was meant.

Actually - I think you may have missed the spirit completely. You
have taken it as a personal comment when it was clearly and
explicitly an example of a put down; informative to you as to
what a *real* put down looks like.

Now. To business.

This list is a user to user peer support list. Sometimes people
connected to RITlabs make comment here, but that is not relevant.
Expert opinion is mostly what you get. Marek is a lively and useful
contributor here; one of the experts whose opinion is valuable and
should therefore be valued. Any opinion given here is given at the
cost of personal free time - no reward is available. English is not
Marek's first language and sometimes the words he may want to use to
flowery up his approach may simply not be in his instant
vocabulary. To seek to alienate him for what amounts to a hurried
end of a reply, one in which he'd already been explicit and kind
further up, is a clear personal attack AND WILL NOT BE TOLERATED ON
THIS LIST.

Back down please - all of you.

This thread is wildly off topic and the next post on it will be
moderated and the topic officially closed.

This is your monthly message from the moderation team to remind you

What this place will do for you is to allow you to create an
account, add your image and then let you download a .ZIP file
containing all the files you'll need to be able so see people's
faces without having to send or receive any real images in any
messages.

Within TB itself, select Options -- Preferences and click on
'Viewer/Editor and enable 'Use smiley icons in HTML editor'.

Within TB itself, select Options -- Preferences and click on
'Viewer/Editor and enable 'Use smiley icons in HTML editor'.

Greetings TB Listers,

This is your monthly message from the moderation team to remind you

The Roguemoticon Project

It's nice to see your contact's face in the header ... and for them
to see yours. That's what roguemoticons are all about. If you wish
to add yourself, then you'll need to visit this site
http://www.pcwize.com/thebat
What this place will do for you is to allow you to create an
account, add your image and then let you download a .ZIP file
containing all the files you'll need to be able so see people's
faces without having to send or receive any real images in any
messages.

Not so. This is entirely predicted, predictable and required behaviour.

AM So what is causing this

If you have multiple messages that refer to the same attachment,
each message MUST have its own copy of that attachment so that, when
message A and attachments are deleted, message B still has its
attached files available and intact.

AM and what can I do to address this?

Keep attachments in the message bodies. It doesn't change anything
except that connected attachments are more obviously attributed to
the message that owns them rather than giving a poor illusion of
cascading duplication in an externalised attachment folder.

DE The URL is incorrect as it does not conform to RFC 1738. The two characters

DE characters and are being used out of there 'reserved character' context.

Further to that, TB is one of the few email clients that can be 100%
trusted (in plain text view) not to change anything in the message
body. If there is tampering with the URL, it is being down by a
routing MTA (transit mail server) or by an anti-virus message

Dear David,

Please try to interleave your responses and trim to context as I
have done:

The name is irrelevant to anyone and anything but you and your
visual comfort. How you would like to see the template listed in
the QT list. You can have spaces in the name with no problem.

The Handle is the technical bit that is referenced in the
 %QUINCLUDE macro.

I was trying to point out here that a handle is best without
spaces.

D At the top of this template I place %qinclude MyTemplate

As others have said you can put %qinclude=MyTemplate or
%qinclude(MyTemplate) but NOT %qinclude MyTemplate.

You have to put the %qinclude call at the top of the Reply
template or address book entry template or account new message
template or (shudder) the folder template.

This is the important bit!!

Well, I'm lost now. I don't know where the template you started
with came from or where the final macro call ended up.

... snip

D Now if I select the whole template only the text in the cells is selected.

Okay, so it's an HTML formatted template. That would be more
complicated to copy into a quick template. Where is it? What is it a
template for??? New Message? Reply? Account or Address book? Please
answer these questions inline so we have a context and point of
reference for any replies you make.

D Now select a new QT and the text is put in unformatted left aligned.

So - perhaps you can't just copy and paste an HTML template. I don't
know. I don't use HTML in email.

D Now where does the %qinclude My Template go?

That's %qinclude=My Template - and you should take out the space.

One of 2 places in a proper template (Account, Address book or
Folder ... New Message, Reply or Forward) or while you're editing a
new message, reply or forward, when you can type a QT handle and
press Ctrl+Space to invoke the template in real time, which you
can't do if the handle has a space in it!

D If I put it in the original

Where is the original, David? You still didn't tell us.

... snip
D But similarly if I put it in the template I am creating it just
D shows Cannot find a quick template My Template , but the
D text is not formatted nor is the table created.

Bill explained this one quite well.

Here's the optimal way to use multiple template configurations in
TB. Quick Templates.

Use highlight the template content that you want to keep and press
Ctrl-C to copy it to the clipboard.

Open the Quick Templates interface. Create a new Quick Template and
paste your copied template into the body. Create another new Quick
Template for as many variations as you want to have.

Now go back to the original template. If your Quick Template was
(for example) labelled with a tag of MyQT1 then replace the
entire template with a single line that reads:

%qinclude MyQT1

In this way, you can set up as many templates or bits of templates
as you wish and pull them into a real template with the %qinclude
macro.

D Thanks for that but I am losing you somewhere because I cannot
D get it to work.

Okay - let's see if we can interact and get this going for you.

D I am going to the template I wish to copy and make the Handle and
D Name the same without spaces (tried making them slightly
D different to no avail).

The name is irrelevant to anyone and anything but you and your
visual comfort. How you would like to see the template listed in the
QT list. You can have spaces in the name with no problem.

The Handle is the technical bit that is referenced in the %QUINCLUDE
macro. There's certainly no need to make the name and handle the
same or even similar.

D Doing ctrl A (I assume that is what you mean by highlight). Then
D ctrl C to copy.

Yes - that is good. Or marking with the mouse. But Ctrl+A works. And
you're doing this for which template? This should be the account
template you want to copy, yes?

D Start a new quick template and pasting the content (ctrl V).

You pasted this into the main body area of the template, right? The
larger box just under the menu and above the Name and Handle text
boxes etc.

D At the top of this template I place %qinclude MyTemplate

Wait. The top of which template? Not the quick template. That would
make a self-referential loop. You have to put the %qinclude call at
the top of the Reply template or address book entry template or
account new message template or (shudder) the folder template.

D Go to Preview and I get the text unformatted and at the top I get

D Cannot find a quick template MyTemplate

Well, I'm lost now. I don't know where the template you started with
came from or where the final macro call ended up.

D where am I going wrong please.

Not entirely sure, I confess. Let me try by showing you what I use.
My Account default new message template looks like this:
___
%qinclude(BizNew)%-
¯¯¯
The BizNew Common QT (named Biz New message) looks like this:
___
Dear %qinclude(ABTO),
%qinclude(PrvPG)%-
%qinclude(PrvPM)%-
%Cursor
-- I've edited this so it doesn't introduce a cut mark here
%qinclude(%ABTOPhone(Soft))
%qinclude(XSig)
¯¯¯

D -- -

Hmm - not quite with the cut mark! But nearly. See mine below? It's
just:
dashdashspacereturn
but, of course, it's in a template. ;)
