Fookes' Mailbag Assistant and TB!
28 July 2008 - 07:22 Hello all, I've just installed Fookes' Mailbag Assistant (MA) and I've got a couple of basic questions already. I did use it years ago when I only had one TB! account but now I've got twenty. My TB! mail directory is X\DOCS\The Bat! to which I pointed MA during the initial set-up wizard. I chose to 'open all mailboxes' and included 'all subfolders', did not use any filters; in effect, I wanted to include the whole message base. MA told me that no messages were found! I then tried pointing to just one account (X\DOCS\The Bat!\Account1) . Same result. Which folder do I select to tell MA to include all messages (if possible) or one account's messages otherwise? -- Best regards, William Flying with The Bat! Thanks for the prompt response, Geoff. It must be this hot weather but I'm bugg**ed if I (or MBA) can find a TBB or MSB file. Each account's folder has a series of folders named e.g. FBA0C14C.DBF which contain files called MESSAGES.EBB and .EBI. These are followed by files named ACCOUNT.something e.g. .EFB. All the accounts' folders contain something similar. This morning I also installed MBA in my office where I use Thunderbird and I had no problems at all! I made the same choices in the wizard (obviously the paths were different) so I'm mystified. -- Best regards, William Flying with The Bat! Let me promise you, William, this dialog was not a waste of time for me. I have had one Fookes product (NoteTab Standard) for years, and have thought about Mailbag Assistant (for Christmas?), since I have had so many mail programs over the years. And I don't use OTFE (whatever that is...), but apparently it masks the mail. But now I think I will ask for Mailbag Assistant for Christmas (my wife monitors my software budget with my collaboration...). So I appreciate your questions and Roelof's answers. I have learned from both of you. Please note my signature - I've loved The Bat! and used it for three years (besides earlier trials), but have switched to Gmail's IMAP (so I can access the same mail from Win XP and Ubuntu Linux), and I found Opera's M2 the most user-friendly and effective IMAP mail application. Following up to my archive question, I am trying out Mailbag Assistant and have a few questions: 1. When I get to the page that gives options on what the Wizard can do, one option is to make archive. I assume that this is the option that I choose if I want the mail to be available even if TB isn't open and if I want to save the archive as a separate file? If so, does doing so remove anything from TB or will the originals still be in TB? 2. Let's assume I make an archive of 500,000 messages (about how many I have as archive). Is there a way to have Mailbag archive messages into the same folders that they are in now in TB? Address violation with Mailbag Assistant and The Bat!
I'm sending this potential bug report to both the Mailbag Assistant mailing list and The Bat!'s user mailing list. On a Win98 machine with TB! ver. 1.60a as the default client and with its MAPI support installed, I get an address violation error when trying to reply through TB! from a Mailbag Assistant line. MBA is ver. 2.8. (By way of a control, I do not get this error when clicking in Lotus Organizer on a contact to be opened in TB!, although that operation only works if the Org contact is also in a TB! address book.) Re[2]: storing mail (Mailbag Assistant vs Zoot)
If you want only mail management rather than the broader information management offered by Zoot, try Mailbag Assistant. It has help files. Cofigured for TB! et al. http://www.fookes.com/mailbag/ Mailbag Assistant is a powerful and user-friendly program for Windows that complements your e-mail software. This utility will help you view your mailboxes, find messages quickly, group e-mails, and archive them. Mailbag is especially designed for people who receive and keep large amounts of e-mail. But it is also useful to anyone having difficulty organizing their messages, searching for old e-mails, and archiving their correspondence. Mailbag currently reads Eudora, Netscape Messenger, Outlook Express 4 (OE4 only), Pegasus, The Bat!, FoxMail, Calypso, and Agent mailboxes.
