That brings up a new email What you seem to be doing is creating a new email (rather than a template). If that is the case, fields like %TOFNAME can't be processed. Rather than your approach try this. First of all create a template in the account you want the message to be sent from. Then, with the group highlighted, go to File --> New --> Mass Mailing Using Template Choose your Template (assuming you have one) and then decide: Put in Outbox Open in Editor Save as draft To test it, "Open in Editor". I almost always Open in Editor so I can modify if necessary. That particularly is the case with first names such as wanting to address Leonard as Len and the like. I think you'll find this a much smoother approach. Or at least, it fits my style like a glove. -- Best regards, Richardmailto:the...@newmangroup.com === Using The Bat! v7.1.2.0 (Christmas Edition) on Windows 7 6 Current version is 6.6 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Does this suggestion depend on the use of an editor like Notebook or MS Word or just the editor in TheBat. I always use the latter and cannot imagine something else. Leonard -- Leonard S. You just use the Editor in TB. When you are using that editor most of the available Macros (like %TOFNAME) will appear in a "Macros" drop-down menu for insertion. I can't imagine how you have created templates in the past. I certainly think you should find this very easy. It didn't work or perhaps I did not understand what you meant. I put %TOFNAME in the body of the template for the group. When I initiated a new message for the group, the name of the group appeared in the body of the message. I did not go any further. Here is the group new message template: ידידות וידידים %TOFNAME %Subject="לקראת הפשט של החומש" %TO="" %BCC="P'shat_on_the_Pentateuch " %CURSOR -- אריה ברקוביץ %REPLYADDR Using The Bat! %TheBatVersion %WindowsPlatformName %WindowsMajorVersion.%WindowsMinorVersion Build %WindowsBuildNumber %WindowsCSDVersion There are two lines in Hebrew that may not display correctly on your computer. When I initiated I was not aware that there is a "group" mail function. When I send to a group, it is usually a group that I defined as a group in the addressbook (where people can belong to one or more groups). As such, when I do a mass mailing to a group Dear %TOFNAME, inserts the first name of each person. Hope that helps.

I will try that again, but as I wrote earlier, the %TOFNAME come up as the name of the group, not each group member in turn. Thanks, Leonard -- Leonard S. Personalized salutation in names on a group list
I use "list_name " in the template for a group. Right now, I have the salutation hard-coded in the template for the group. Is there a way of personalizing the salutation for each recipient so that instead of everyone being addressed as "Friends," the salutation in the individual messages would vary based on, say, the first name in the address book? 1st recipient: Dear Henry: 2nd recipient: Dear Barbara: etc. Thanks. -- Leonard S.
