There is always potential for trouble running 32 bit software under 64 bit Windows - when you run a 32 bit program, you are, to a reasonable simplification, running it in a separate copy of Windows (see C:\Windows\SYSWOW64 vs C:\WINDOWS\system32 - though confusingly the former is your 32 bit software and the latter your 64 bit software!) In general, if a 64 bit version of a product is available, you should use it - if you should be breaking that rule, you'll already know why (if you see what I mean!) Julian: I've heard that there can be problems but don't know whether MiKTeX (or specific commands in MiKTeX or specific versions of Windows) are problematic. I only have 32bit Windows 7 systems available to me. Perhaps someone with experience could comment. PMX is a very comprehensive and readable input language for a program called PMXAB.EXE, which then generates MusixTeX input. You will find an excellent introduction to PMX by C.C. Yeah right...I just installed the 64 bits version :) but the problem remains. I tried to check/uncheck the Bibtex and Makeindex boxes, but same result in both cases. I don't get it. I double-checked the link you provided, which gives the same instructions as you do on texniccenter.
