and could be fixed quickly ...

And i doubt that they will show up in tc33, i know very well

they all are very basic errors.. so it seems they belong to

Important point here.

I was thinking that the mod_jk 1.2.0 release will cover only
the native part, and so java side problems (ie in TC 4.x only)
should be fixed in JTC/TC4 release ?

RE: jk 1.2 freese/snap time in JTC ?

2002-06-18 Thread Mladen Turk

We have a serious problem with jk and apache2.
Try running:
ab -n 1 -c 100 http://localhost:8000/examples/jsp/dates/date.jsp

I have 59
[Tue Jun 18 18:07:14 2002] [warn] [client 127.0.0.1] handler
jakarta-servlet not found for: date.jsp

Now, IMHO there is problem with map_uri_to_worker, cause it's not thread
safe, and the time spend in it causes apache to recycle the request_rec
prior the function returns. Now the problem arises only with high
concurrent load.

The solution is possible using a mutex surrounding the call to
map_uri_worker. (I'm having a working one with the CRITICAL_SECTION),
but will translate to apr if no one objects.

Jk1.2 is not apr-based, but I think it's ok to add an HAS_APR flag,
but leave the old mutex as fallback.

I'm not sure I understand how request_rec gets recycled while
we are in map_uri_to_worker - it is supposed to happen after
the request completes. It's very weird - maybe there's another
problem. Can we avoid a mutex in the critical path ?

Does the same problem exists in jk2 ?

I've tried that with the Enter/Leave CriticalSection, but as I done more
testing, I still occasionally get 1 or two handler jakarta-servlet not
found, returning server error.

I'll try to dig into that (at least I think I'm on the right track).
The strangest thing that map_uri_to_worker occasionally returns NULL for
the same uri.

Can't believe it!

We have a race condition beetwen the:
Alias /examples /tomcat/webapps/examples
and
JkMount /*.jsp ajp13

If I comment out the Alias directive there is no more colision, and if I
slow down the map_uri_to_worker putting the Sleep(100), then for the
each request there is 'not found handler'.

Any ideas how to solve that?

How can it be ??? All processing for a request happens in a single
thread, you can't have a 'race condition' when a single thread is
processing the request.

Mapping a request to a worker shouldn't modify any data that is
accessed by other threads - we just access some static structures.

That's very strange...

 Kevin? Costin?

I agree, most likely the bugs are on the java side - and probably
they are minor.

I think we should focus our efforts on org.apache.jk ( and coyote ),
and use it in jk1.2 release ( for the java side ).

The main reason is that I think the code is more maintainable, it
is as stable as org.apache.ajp, and the bug fixes will help both
3.3 and 4.x.

Henri ? You're the RM, what do you think ?

Nacho - can you re-run your tests with o.a.jk ( instead of the original
Ajp13Interceptor ) ? This will help both jk1.2 and jk2 releases.

we need some time to test jk 1.2 under IIS..

AFAIK there is some problems with file names, the given reg file, docs

Can we just put it in the release notes, and focus on the

This affects only iPlanet and IIS with tomcat3.3.

Has anyone 'volunteered' as release manager for jk1.2 ? If

Build the 'official' release, review the bugs and decide what bugs must be
fixed, putting the release to a vote and making the announcements.

And of course, make sure the stars are in the right position and
all the software we depend on is released first and has all the

OK, i was only pointing to some problem i know of.., something to be at
least documented.. i would not oppose, and if i would, i could try to
fix it myself, no problem.. :)

The silence can be masked :)

Could we do some kind of collective RM for that relase? it's at least
possible to do a release this way?

Put up a list of tasks, another of bugs, vote and comment in what to
do.. and simply do it..

Do we need a (benevolent) dictator for this?

( please take it as a comment, no negative feelings, but it seems to me
, that to find a RM for that release could be hard, and seems it's an
important release to someone, not me, i could help, but not take the
role myself )

Just realized i was falling in my habitual naiveness.. :)

The tasklist of the RM starts with collect open bugs, ok?

We have the bugs reported by the query below in bugzilla, as opened bugs
for JK, if anyone feels this lacks something.. feel free to add what you
want..

http://nagoya.apache.org/bugzilla/buglist.cgi?bug_status=UNCONFIRMEDbug
_status=NEWbug_status=ASSIGNEDbug_status=REOPENEDproduct=Tomcat+3pro
duct=Tomcat+4component=Connector%3AJK%2FAJP+%28deprecated%29component=

Adding the JNI problem reported by myself, could this be the list of
actual open bugs against JK1.2.0?

If yes, first task done...next please.. :)

Re: jk 1.2 freese/snap time in JTC ?

2002-06-10 Thread Bojan Smojver

+1 for mod_jk 1.2.0 for Apache 1.3.24. It's been running stable on my
systems for a really long time now.

Not sure if the bug related to not picking up the index pages when used
with Apache 2.0.35 still exists... Anyone knows?

To find the thread, search this list for this: 'Apache 2.0.35 and mod_jk
1.2.0'. I've posted the question on 2002-04-07.

Did there is still work on progress in JK (native) in JTC ?

If not, it could be the good moment to make a 1.2.0 snapshot,
and ask contributers/friends to generate binaries on there
 platforms.
