TOMCAT authentication

2004-01-16 Thread postmaster
Hello

I'm pretty sure this is a known issue, even though I didn't find much about
it; I'm having a problem with authenticating users in TomCat. I have an IIS
server to server static content and Tomcat to serve dynamic content, if
users knows URL that goes directly to Tomcat then Tomcat wont even ask for
use to enter his/her username and password while if user goes through first
page of IIS (where it redirects to tomcat) IIS askes user for his/her
username and password.

How do I enable authentication at Tomcat so that even if users knows direct
URL it would still ask him/her for his/her username and password?

Thank you in advance

If this is not an appropriate list to ask design questions, could someone

Craig Berry suggested a filter that checks the session for necessary

Has anyone implemented a different approach to this problem? I'd like to
find a solution in which the extra tasks are performed just ONCE, somehow
triggered by the container authentication. Please reference my previous

 Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi,

Although I haven't heard of anyone doing this you could add in your

JkSet config.file /full/system/path/to/workers2.properties

I don't see why you couldn't change that to anything you want.

I'd like to get some suggestions for performing post-authentication tasks
while using Container Managed Authentication.

Craig Berry suggested a filter that checks the session for necessary
attributes, and creates them if they're missing. This check would be
performed on every request however.

Has anyone implemented a different approach to this problem? I'd like to
find a solution in which the extra tasks are performed just ONCE, somehow
triggered by the container authentication. Please reference my previous
post on a filter vs. session attribute listener approach.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi,
the example I sent you originally came from 4.0.1...
Make sure you use forward separators, do not run tomcat as a service and
have no spaces in the pathname, maybe that helps.

There are no such things as symbolic links on Windows.

The solution for you is to simply change your docBase:

Context path=/software docBase=some_other_drive:/some_other_dir
/Context

 Good Afternoon,

I am using Win2k with Tomcat 4.0.6. How can I make the contextPath

How
would i go by doing this?

I got this so far in my server.xml

 Context path=/software docBase=c:/software debug=1
   Resources
className=org.apache.naming.resources.FileDirContext
 caseSensitive=false allowLinking=true  /
  /Context

Most of the Wrox titles have been picked up by Wiley and Apress (Wrox
liquidated earlier this year), so its possible the books will be closer
to what you prefer when the second printing comes around.

You are so wrong about Wrox books. Most of them are very good and
moderately priced. The Professional Tomcat book from Wrox is an excellent
book. Of course, there are some discrepancies. But hey, there is no writer
on earth can catch up 100% with the fast pace of software development. The
Professional Tomcat book is the best you can get out there.
By the way, I also bought the JBoss book from Wrox and it is very good as
well.  =)

Locating Dynamically Generated Files...

2002-09-24 Thread postmaster

My JSP uses a bean that creates a file dynamically.
Unfortunately, the file ends up in the jakarta-tomcat\bin directory rather than
in my web app directory where the JSP tries to get it from.

How do I make dynamically generated files end up in my web app directory?
Anyone run across any sample code that does this?

Thanks...

OS X + Tomcat on Port 80...

2002-04-19 Thread postmaster

Hi...

I have recently installed Tomcat on Mac OS X.
Everything works fine when set to listen on Port 8080
(i.e. When I point my browser to http://localhost:8080 I get the Tomcat
page and am able to execute the examples.)
..but when I change the server.xml file so that Tomcat listens on Port 80,
restart Tomcat, and point my browser to http://localhost I get nothing.

What's up with that?!

Sorry if this has already been addressed. I just joined the list and I did do
a cursory search of the archives but I didn't see anything pertaining to this.

Thanks for any help...

Hi All,

Has anybody embedded tomcat 3.2.1 in their application successfully? The
code EmbededTomcat.java that ships with 3.2.1 doesnt seem to be working
correctly (and there doesnt seem to be a stop method as well).

I tried using their other class org.apache.tomcat.startup.Tomcat. I have 2
problems with that!

1. The class is not instantiable and their main method masks all exceptions
2. Stop calls system.exit which knocks off my application as well.

Are there work arounds? If anybody has done it , let me know.

Thanx
Ganesh

I don't know anything too specific about use with
Oracle, but I've certainly used servlets/JSP's to access DB's via JDBC in the
past (read: maintained code which did it, not developed it!), so its certainly
possible. Firstly, could you give the exact error you are getting from tomcat?
Also, you might want to try using 3.2.2, which is the current stable release
and might contain fixes to your problems already.

Hello,

I would like to know whether anyone is able togive
me a hinttowards solving the following scenario. If anyone is
available on consultation basis, it is fine too.

I have developed website personalization engine in
javathat comes with it's own kind of application server to handle the
client access requests to the oracle 8.1.7 db through the use of tomcat 3.1
I am using the oracle thin driver and classes111.zip in order to handle the
requests through the jdbc. However tomcat giving me serious errors and my
client application can't login to the database. Would anyone be able to help
me on that matter?

Thanks
