[TurboGears] paginate and query parameters
OK I've spent about an hour searching the docs and looking at the source code to the paginate decorator, and I can't figure this one out. How do I use paginate in conjunction with a controller method that takes multiple parameters? I have a search page that takes a url in the form page.html?search=xxx. I'd like to be able to use the pagination decorator - however, I can't figure out how to get the pagination decorator to combine my search= query parameter with its own query params.You would think that get_href would take optional params indicating additional query params - just like tg.url does. Some work some don't, normally the simple ones work fine.
I really want to know when genshi will replace kid in TG.
the current plan is that TG 1.1 will default to genshi, and you should
be able to switch between then at no or little cost.

this is already done, the trunk now defaults to genshi, I just made a

by the way for the people reading this and wondering why the switch
genshi (aka markup) is 2-4 times faster then kid, it's syntax is so
close to kid that only constructs changed and it has a plain text
template and a XML template, so it should replace both the need people
have right now to use cheetah and kid.

[TurboGears] How can I know each computer from another with CP and TG?
First of all sorry for the double post, I'm not sure if there is some CP only functionality that could help me on this. OK let me explain to what I want to do. I'm writting a small app for myself, basically because my mid-term memory is really bad and I keep forgetting to do stuff, bring stuff,etc. I think of it as kind of a multiplayer post-it The idea comes in 2 flavors - Me sending notes to myself - Other people sending note to me. and of course this applies to all users in the system. The main feature I want for it is to send notes in this form From [EMAIL PROTECTED] to [EMAIL PROTECTED] remenber to bring the DVD John has been asking for and of course From John to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Dude for the last time give me my DVD back! one feature I'll like to add in the future (if possible) is messages like from [EMAIL PROTECTED]@linux to [EMAIL PROTECTED]@windows test link this nice program too bad it only runs on windows by the way the @ is probably a feature for later, I have 2 textboxes, which will probably the nice autocomplete widget with the users in your group in order to do this I need to identify and track every computer that each user has (I'll probably add a hide computers), I really don't want to use a cookie they are evil I though about the userAgent but this may be the same for 2 computers the same user has specially if they are something like firefox on any binary distro where they will probably the the same. (with the autoupdates and package managers) and I reallly don't want to log IP address or anything like that. So I'm kind of stuck on which will be the best way to implement this Computer Entity I hope that any of your which know more CP can give me a way to use/store this. get_href already uses tg.url, but could probably be fixed by adding
keyword support and having it pass those keywords to tg.url. Here is
what would need to be changed:
In the file paginate.py:

+def get_href(self, page, order=None, reverse_order=None, **kw):
-return turbogears.url('', self.input_values)
+return turbogears.url('', self.input_values, **kw)
Hope that helps, I haven't had a chance to test this so it may not work

If one of the project's preconditions is disallowing cookies the only other options I can think of are getting the MAC address, having your location as an option when signing in, or moving the location to tabs inside the program. The MAC address solution would be ... interesting. It might be doable with a cherrypy filter right when the request is received. The problem is that a lot of networks use proxy servers or NAT routers. In either of those cases different systems on the network would be indistinguishable from each other. MAC addresses don't leave the LAN. You have two exactly three options: 1. Stick all of the state in the URL (or a session ID). 2. Keep all of your state (or a session id) in forms and make sure that every link is a form submit (using GET instead of POST would be an ugly variant of 1). 3. Stick state or a session id in a cookie. Pick one.
