[Bug 367236] [NEW] Installer indicates false changes to untouched partition tables
Public bug reported: I used the base-installer in the latest Ubuntu 9.04 Server on the following Configuration: Thinkpad X21 (p3-700/192MB) - internal 40GB HDD (sda) with Linux already installed - USB-attached 32MB CF-Card (sdc) - USB-attached 1024MB USB Stick (sdf) I did this manual partitioning and deselected the swap partitition from sda as do not use. Furthermore I created a /boot partition on the CF card (sdc) and a / partition on the USB Stick (sdf). When finishing, the installer warned me that I had no swap defined (that's just fine) and then indicated that changes to the following partition tables were made: /dev/sda /dev/sdc /dev/sdf But that's actually misleading, since no changes to the partition table of sda are made in this case, marking a swap partition to be used or not only affects the resulting /etc/fstab - but it does not touch the partition table. ** Affects: base-installer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Installer indicates false changes to untouched partition tables https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/367236 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 226381] Re: Firefox Crashes when trying to open some sites
I just noticed that this bug is old, reporter was using 2.0.* and that is not supported any longer by us nor Mozilla. If using firefox-3.0 and you get a crash here are some steps to follow as well as the profile one in my last comment: 1. Start Firefox using the following command firefox --safe-mode If that fixes your problem, the most likely cause of your crash is an extension. If you are using google gears extension, It has been known to cause crashes for the past month or 2. 2. If the profile or the safe-mode does not fix your crash you need to file the bug using apport. Also when you file the bug apport will let you comment. In that comment field please list some sites it happens on. [Bug 367234] [NEW] KDE: Copy dialog start / stop buttons inoperative when panel is locked
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kdebase-plasma The start / stop buttons of copy / move dialogs are inoperative when the panel is locked. [Bug 367233] [NEW] ethernet chokes with wake-on-lan deactivated
Public bug reported: This is a curious one and all administrative attempts to narrow down the source of the problem failed. The symptoms: - When booting off the Live CD, network is running just fine. - After installation, on the first boot, too. - After another reboot, ethernet doesn't work at all, DHCP doesn't pick up. Further investigation: - To satisfy the connection indicatior in the top Gnome menu bar, I can set up ethernet manually with the default-installed tool (network- manager-gnome?). Still, pings to computers in the same network report Destination unreachable. ifconfig, in turn, reports what I'd expect for a working ethernet device, IPv4 and IPv6. - Attempts to blacklist ipv6 failed, but that's another story. Workaround Just by chance I found this report in german which describes pretty much what I experienced: http://computerverein-rostock.de/viewtopic.php?f=2578t=58386 At the bottom you see a screenshot from MS Windows. [Bug 240621] Re: Cannot access secure WebDav folders (through davs)
Hello all, I'm not sure whether this is a but or just a configuration problem on my computer (Ubuntu 9.10). I've created a shared folder on a remote server that should be accessible through webdav: by pasting https://mysite.org:2078 but when doing so, I simply get the answer Could not display https://usine21.org:2078;. Access was denied. Before considering this as a bug, maybe the question is rather only: Is my port 2078 closed, and how do I open it? [Bug 367244] [NEW] tracker does not adjust to performance settings
Public bug reported: In tracker-preferences one can adjust how the tracker uses system resources in the performance tab. However, in 9.04 none of these settings show any effect. Same performance requirements whether using memory or not (memory footprint stays the same), same cpu requirements (whether doing faster or slower setting). On my 2 processor NB it constantly takes 70% of one CPU. For a tool that constantly reports errors due to access problems to the index database, no observable search results (it does not even find a file that sits in my user directory, let alone somewhere down the path), not capable of doing content search, this is a lot of waste of resources. Q1: Where is the documentation as to what it is supposed to do? Q2: How can I uninstall it without removing all the other programs? ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- tracker does not adjust to performance settings https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/367244 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 367243] [NEW] hyperlinks in help:kubuntu docs appear ugly in Konqueror
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kubuntu-docs Visit help:/kubuntu/hardware/index.html in Konqueror, click a few links and return. Result: Visited links such as Next and the pages you've seen appear in a horrendous pink; holding down the left mouse button on a link makes it turn red. A visited link should dim slightly, not turn pink; since pressing makes a dotted box appear, no color change is necessary. Compare with e.g. help:/gwenview/ in Konqueror. I don't think this is a problem with the CSS, because if you view file:/usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/kubuntu/hardware/index.html you see the muted blue and dimmer blue links. The kubuntu-docs files refer to CSS with href=../../common/kubuntu-default.css, which seems legitimate but maybe not for help: pseudo-URLs. ** Affects: kubuntu-docs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- hyperlinks in help:kubuntu docs appear ugly in Konqueror https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/367243 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I would say if someone else runs into this bug we should reopen this bug or use the other bug the user reported, I would love to see logs if this happens with upgrade, Most likely this was caused by not installing Enigmail after install, In other wors you were trying to use the enigmail that was part of your profile. ** Changed in: enigmail (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- enigmail not working in Jaunty https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/366610 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 273336] Re: [intrepid] alpha 6 - WPA WPA2 Personal won't authenticate short passwords
wicd does not solve the problem for me. Still the WLAN is not working. I have installed wicd and removed the network manager package as requested by ubuntu. Took me some time to realise that one needs to use the synaptic package administration for that. I also de-installed the gnome network manager cause I thought this is the program in question to allow wicd to operate. Now wicd is up and running, but it doesn't find any wireless networks. However, when I use networks under system, there still is the old game of entering the new password and seeing how it is changed back to another 64-one. So the system does find the network but does not connect due to the password-change issue. I think this is quite a critical issue for using ubuntu. If I can't connect to networks, I can't use the computer. All the other stuff like open office etc. is fine, but I can't invest more time to get my WLAN running. I'm afraid I will have to go back to windows soon. -- [intrepid] alpha 6 - WPA WPA2 Personal won't authenticate short passwords https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/273336 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 331589] Re: system beep in jaunty is the most annoying sound known to man
I fixed it. Don't know what did it, but these are the 3 things I've done: - $ sudo rmmod pcspkr - Added 'blacklist pcspkr' to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf - $ gconftool-2 --type bool --set /apps/metacity/general/audible_bell False -- system beep in jaunty is the most annoying sound known to man https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/331589 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 273336] Re: [intrepid] alpha 6 - WPA WPA2 Personal won't authenticate short passwords
ok, stop - I just learned that our wireless LAN does not work at the moment! Strangely, just after posting the earlier frustrated comment, wicd started to find various networks, including the one in my house. I couldn't connect, but which might be due to router problems. perhaps wicd is indeed a solution. Nevertheless in this case it would be desirable if wicd would be the standard connector in ubuntu -- [intrepid] alpha 6 - WPA WPA2 Personal won't authenticate short passwords https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/273336 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 363088] Re: Smart Pinyin input method is missing
I can confirm this bug. After I upgrading to Jaunty from Intrepid, Smart Pinyin disappeared from the SCIM menu. Also the Smart Pinyin module has disappeared IM Engine-Global Setup. Removing (purge) and reinstalling scim-pinyin does not help. However I have found a simple workaround: cd ~; rm -r .scim then logout and login again. Obviously the configuration in the home directory was messed up. But I have never tweaked the configuration files myself (other than using the SCIM setup GUI). So I think the Jaunty upgrade process messed up SCIM, although I have no idea why it would happen. On the Chinese Ubuntu Forum I've also seen a report of Smart Pinyin missing in SCIM, after upgrade KUBUNTU to Jaunty (The link is in Chinese): http://forum.ubuntu.org.cn/viewtopic.php?f=38t=182934 So I am pretty sure there is something wrong with the upgrade process. ** Changed in: scim (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid = New -- Smart Pinyin input method is missing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/363088 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 334344] Re: wishlist: integrate libnotify in Thunderbird notifications
Hello, it works well, thanks a lot! One small issue though: I get a notification each time I move a message to another folder, including the trash. [Bug 277903] Re: Missing Operating System [message at boot]
I am also affected by this bug. I booted Ubuntu 9.04-i386 image from CD. To be sure the usbdrive is empty i run the following command first: $ sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdc After dd was finished cleaning the usbdrive I run the tool USB disk creator and formatted the usbdrive from within the tool. I could then boot the usbdrive on one of my computers but on the other one I get Could not find kernel image: linux. After that I followed the blog and deleted the partition with fdisk and created a new fat32-partition with GParted instead (including boot and lba options) and then copied the CD onto the usbdrive with USB disk creator, without formatting the drive inside the tool. And that worked for me! I can now boot the usbdrive from both my computers. The failing motherboard is Gigabyte GA-M55PLUS-S3G, BIOS version F11 (04/23/2007). The output from the diagnostic MBR (the link from TJ on 2009-03-30) when I hold CTRL-key own during boot is: L D80 C07C HFF S3F P1 O003F MAA55 E00. I have no clue of what that means but I hope it is valuble for TJ. :) -- Missing Operating System [message at boot] https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/277903 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
