I was unable to reproduce the reported error with synaptic 0.62.5ubuntu2.1 after performing an update from intrepid (notify-osd and screen-profiles, both added in jaunty, showed up when entered into the search location); however, with the version of synpatic in jaunty- proposed, 0.62.5ubuntu3, searching still worked after waiting for the re-indexing operation to complete. Other operations, such as adding, removing, and updating software also continued to function, so this update appears to be safe from a regressions standpoint. -- search index outdated after upgrade https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/365151 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

However if I start FF3.5 or TB3 with gksudo oh. please dont do that. besides from general security hazards, doing this calls for troubles and usually does not help (except for cases where you already ran them as root before!!); running this as root creates files/caches as root in some system directories and that might also cause issues lateron, when the user cannot recreate/invalidate those. .fontconfig usually font config caches work quite well, i would think that you had a manually setup (and most likely broken): .fonts.conf ** Package changed: firefox-3.1 (Ubuntu Jaunty) = firefox-3.5 (Ubuntu Jaunty) -- No subpixel smoothing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/305394 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 367694] Re: SIGWINCH causes xserver to briefly hang
** Description changed: Binary package hint: xorg I have traced this bug back to one of the xorg packages. Some change between 8.10 and 9.04 causes SIGWINCH to hang the system for about 2 seconds. I use compiz, but I observed the problem with the fallback window manager as well. Opening windows, resizing them, restoring them, and opening the second tab in gnome-terminal all cause this 2 second hang where the cursor still moves, but everything else stops updating (such as gkrellm). [Bug 366536] Re: fglrx broken in Jaunty with SyncMaster 305T and HD4870x2
** Description changed: Binary package hint: xorg-driver-fglrx ubuntu-bug -p xorg unknown chip id 0x9441, can't guess. Just upgraded my primary desktop to 64-bit Jaunty, but when I restarted the system was completely unusuable. Had to invoke the rescue kernel and boot into the command line to remove all fglrx packages. The open source drivers are usable with metacity, but I have completely lost compiz and all desktop effects. I am using a Samsung Syncmaster 305t (2560x1600 resolution) with a Sapphire HD4870x2 graphics card on an i7/940. Worse, when I switched to the open source drivers it initially seemed to have problems recognizing my display and assumed my monitor was a lower resolution 4:3 display, resulting in a fuzzy, stretched desktop. (Didn't seem to detect it properly) Only with a complete purge and reconfigure using information gleaned from others bitten by Jaunty ATI issues allowed the open source driver to properly detect my monitor. I have attached my (working) open source xorg.conf along with inline dumps the busted ones generated by fglrx if it helps. I realize you don't have much control over closed source drivers, but unfortunately this is the sort of thing that prevents Bug #1 from ever being fixed. Non technical users with ATI cards would be completely hosed by the upgrade and have no idea how to fix it. If you want, I can retry the fglrx drivers when you think a fix is available. I really miss compiz. * Note * When the fix becomes available, be sure to check it against VLC, movie player, google earth. and celestia with compiz enabled. These were problematic with 8.10+ compiz, and I had to turn compiz off to use them. [Bug 364497] Re: Jaunty + fglrx + Xinerama crashes X (Ubuntu 9.04 AMD64)
** Description changed: After upgrading from Ubuntu 8.04 to Ubuntu 9.04 RC, enabling the Xinerama server option with the fglrx driver crashes X. This is simliar to bug #355841, but since that was for i386 I wanted to file another bug for amd64. From what I can tell, on bootup the fglrx driver will finish initializing and then crash the X server while trying to configure the CRTCs. When X tries to start again, the fglrx driver causes a kernel lockup during the DDC probe. [Bug 363412] Re: Xinerama does not work on jaunty RC with fglrx driver
** Description changed: Binary package hint: xorg-driver-fglrx I'm using an ATI HD 2600 pro and find that enabling Xinerama causes X to produce a garbled display (basically looks like the the memory from boot screen at top but garbled / wrong colours, so I assume it's set the screen resolution but hasn't cleared the frame buffer). It appears the screen resolution is set on both screens, but X seems to hang shortly after. I notice the hard-disk goes for a second or so, but then then my machine completely freezes. Obviously I'm expecting both screens to work as a large desktop and the system not to crash in the process (excuse the sarcasm, it did ask me in the guidelines to state what i expect to happen =p) Ctrl Alt Backspace / AltGr SysReq / 3 finger salute doesn't seem to be acknowledged, so I get the impression this is a kernel freeze. This is damn annoying for me (as I really need 2 screens). I understand it's not totally something that is under the control of Ubuntu Developers directly, but I assume you communicate with ATI and have prodding authority when it comes to making them patch up their stinking code blob. Both my screens are the same (DVI digital) at 1600x1200. I've using a fresh install of the release candidate (as I released it's only since the beta fglrx got updated for xserver 1.6), with all updates installed. I can get independent dual screens to work (i.e. work as independent X displays, however compiz doesn't fully work here) and for both displays to mirror a screen with full acceleration (compiz is fine here). Intrepid and Gutsy seemed fine under this setup, so I really would like this to work in jaunty as well if you can squeeze this in between now and the final release. I'm not too sure what else you want from me, would a lspci -vvv be of any help? This is similar to bug #40544, however I've opened a new report as this affects Jaunty, not Dapper, and so I assume the causes / reasons for the bug are very different. Thanks for your time. [Bug 363104] Re: Oversized Text with fglrx in Kubuntu Jaunty
** Description changed: Hello, i am using the release candiate of Kubuntu 9.04 and have installed fglrx with the included GUI installer. After a reboot the fonts in KDE are totaly oversized. Like it is descibed in the bugs: bug #353074 bug #219629 My Display is an Asus VW161 wich is a 16.1 16:9 LCD with a max resolution of 1360x768. The LCD is connected to the vga out of my mobos IGP Radeon HD 3300. As described here https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/HugeFonts i have read the Xorg.log and found (II) fglrx(0): clock: 85.5 MHz Image Size: 34 x 19 mm So i think a qurik is needed for my setup. Or is there another workaround to tell X that my Monitors dimensions are 34 cm x 19 xm and not 34 mm x 19 mm. With the vesa drive i have no problem. I have attached my Xorg.log. + + [lspci] + 00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] RS780 Host Bridge [1022:9600] + Subsystem: ASRock Incorporation Device [1849:9600] + 01:05.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon HD 3300 Graphics [1002:9614] + Subsystem: ASRock Incorporation Device [1849:9614] -- Oversized Text with fglrx in Kubuntu Jaunty https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/363104 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 362056] Re: fglrx 100% cpu and bad choppiness playing video after long uptime.
** Description changed: Binary package hint: xorg-driver-fglrx Jaunty Beta x64; compiz running; video output set to 'No Xv'; AMD phenom2; Ati 4850; Playing video is fine after login, but after the computer has been on a day or so, if I try to watch a video the computer starts hitting like 2 frames per second. The video is this choppy as well as the desktop. Moving a window is choppy for example. I forgot to look the last time this happened, but I am pretty sure xorg was taking 25% cpu (quad core cpu) and the process manager said it was in futex_wait. [Bug 351263] Re: package pacemaker None [modified: /var/lib/dpkg/info/pacemaker.list] failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite `/usr/sbin/attrd_updater', which is also in package heartbeat
This bug is mirrored upstream. http://bugs.debian.org/cgi- bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=488636 Cursory research into both heartbeat and pacemaker packages suggests this issue is due to project split, which lead to some confusion between filenames etc. According to http://www.linux-ha.org/HomePage , for compatibility between heartbeat and pacemaker, it's required that we use heartbeat v. 2.99.0. Until then, the deps will break pacemaker. ** Bug watch added: Debian Bug tracker #488636 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=488636 -- package pacemaker None [modified: /var/lib/dpkg/info/pacemaker.list] failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite `/usr/sbin/attrd_updater', which is also in package heartbeat https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/351263 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 195605] Re: Sound not configured properly on Sony Vaios using snd_hda_intel
** Description changed: Recent Sony Vaios use snd_hda_intel for audio, which is generally good and supported by alsa = 1.0.15, but the Ubuntu installer does not properly detect hardware and configure the driver. The well-known fix to this bug is to install the newest available alsa and add to the end of /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base these 3 lines: alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel options snd-card-0 index=0 options snd-hda-intel model=vaio Then restart ALSA: ]$ sudo /etc/init.d/alsa-utils restart (In Jaunty, alsa-base has been renamed to alsa-base.conf and you have to restart your machine to effect any change) This enables the headphone jack, speaker muting on headphone insertion, the internal microphone (and I think the mic jack, though I haven't tested it), which otherwise don't work. Andy Whitcroft reckons this can be handled by the kernel's quirk subsystem if appropriate info is provided: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/195605/comments/24 So can people please add comments with their model number, the working model=something string from /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base and attach the output of ]$ sudo lspci -vvnn | lspci.txt For VGN-: NR11Z, N31M Use: options snd-hda-intel model=sony-assamd - For VGN-: SZ650N, SZ61, FZ11S + For VGN-: SZ650N, SZ61, FZ11S, FZ15G Use: options snd-hda-intel model=vaio For VGN-: FZ140E, FE41E Use: unknown -- Sound not configured properly on Sony Vaios using snd_hda_intel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/195605 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 368457] [NEW] Sierra Wireless AirCard USBConnect 881U does not work in Jaunty 9.04
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: network-manager I have a Sierra Wireless AirCard USBConnect 881U 3G/HSDPA/UMTS USB modem. This device works out of the box on Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex 8.10 but I cannot get it to work using Ubuntu 9.04's NetworkManager. I tried wvdial/wvdialconf but not successful for some reason. I tried gnome-ppp but gnome-ppp prompts for a password that my ISP (Telkomsel Flash) do not require (and therefore must be left empty). I am using UMTSMon to connect and it works flawlessly with this modem, save for some quirks (Firefox/Pidgin detecting as offline etc.) because I'm using UMTSMon, not NetworkManager. Note that I also have Nokia E71 and it works well as 3G modem with NetworkManager. ** Affects: network-manager (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Sierra Wireless AirCard USBConnect 881U does not work in Jaunty 9.04 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/368457 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
