[Bug 365151] Re: search index outdated after upgrade

2009-04-28 Thread Steve Beattie
I was unable to reproduce the reported error with synaptic
0.62.5ubuntu2.1 after performing an update from intrepid (notify-osd and
screen-profiles, both added in jaunty, showed up when entered into the
search location); however, with the version of synpatic in jaunty-
proposed, 0.62.5ubuntu3, searching still worked after waiting for the
re-indexing operation to complete. Other operations, such as adding,
removing, and updating software also continued to function, so this
update appears to be safe from a regressions standpoint.

 So it seems at least on my hardware, Virtual 1606 1606 and below
 freezes. Dunno what would be magical about that number, but it's pretty
 night and day. I'll run a few more tests to verify this dichotomy.

Would your monitor's display size enter the equation at all?

I run 1920x1200 on an external monitor and it will freeze pretty quickly
unless I use Greedy.

[Bug 339519] Re: false position error: malformed-deb-archive third member data.tar.lzma not data.tar.(gz|bz2)

2009-04-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package lintian - 2.2.9ubuntu1

---
lintian (2.2.9ubuntu1) karmic; urgency=low

  * Resynchronise with Debian. Remaining changes:
- Don't complain about `dist-packages' in /usr/lib/python*.
  * Permit data.tar.lzma for packages with Ubuntu distributions at the head
of their changelog (LP: #339519).

lintian (2.2.9) unstable; urgency=low

  * Summary of tag changes:
+ Added:
   - wrong-section-according-to-package-name
   - vcs-field-uses-not-recommended-uri-format
   - vcs-field-uses-unknown-uri-format
+ Removed:
   - dev-package-should-be-section-libdevel
   - doc-package-should-be-section-doc
   - perl-package-should-be-section-perl
   - python-package-should-be-section-python

  * checks/deb-format.desc:
+ [RA] In the tag description, the first required element should be
  debian-binary, not debian-control. Thanks, Judit Foglszinger.
  (Closes: #521012)
  * checks/fields{,.desc}:
+ [FL] Update list of valid sections. (Closes: #521782)
+ [RA] Fix dbg-package-missing-depends check when the dependency is
  followed by a comma. (Closes: #520640)
+ [FL] Add package name checks for the new sections. Move all package
  section checks to one tag wrong-section-according-to-package-name
  instead of one tag per section.
+ [FL] Add checks for well formatted Vcs-* fields. (Closes: #517635)
  * checks/lintian.desc:
+ [CW] Add karmic as an allowable distribution for Ubuntu (thanks, Soren
  Hansen).
  * checks/scripts:
+ [RA] Fix a hash collision that could suppress a correct
  remove-of-unknown-diversion tag if the diversion was removed in
  multiple maintainer scripts including postrm.
+ [RA] Handle variables in maintainer scripts when adding and removing
  diversions. Patch from Raphael Geissert. (Closes: #519268)
  * checks/shared-libs:
+ [RA] Correctly handle SONAMEs in symbols files that contain regex
  metacharacters like +. Thanks, Daniel Kobras. (Closes: #521621)

  * collection/file-info:
+ [RA] Use chomp instead of chop to remove newlines.
+ [RA] Ignore error returns from file. file returns non-zero if it
  can't parse some files, but the resulting output is still fine for
  Lintian's purposes. Thanks to Raphael Geissert for the problem
  identification.  (Closes: #521257)

  * data/changelog-file/ubuntu-dists:
+ [CW] Add karmic as an allowable distribution for Ubuntu (thanks, Soren
  Hansen).

  * debian/rules:
+ [RA] Remove and recreate debian/tests before runtests or check-tag to
  avoid spurious test failures from lingering old files.

  * frontend/lintian:
+ [RA] Belatedly bump the lab format version for many recent changes.

  * lib/Lintian/Command.pm:
+ [RA] In kill, initialize the result status and use = instead of |=.
  Partly addresses #521257.

  * unpack/unpack-srcpkg-l1:
+ [RA] Better anchor the regexes that parse the file list in a source
  package.

lintian (2.2.8) unstable; urgency=low

  The Policy 3.8.1 release.

  * Summary of tag changes:
+ Added
  - dir-or-file-in-var-lock
  - dir-or-file-in-var-run

  * checks/changelog-file.desc:
+ [RA] Using UTF-8 is now a Policy must and hence serious.
  * checks/control-file.desc:
+ [RA] Using UTF-8 is now a Policy must and hence serious.
  * checks/files{,.desc}:
+ [CW] Emit dir-or-file-in-var-lock or dir-or-file-in-var-run, as
  appropriate, for packages shipping directories or files in /var/lock
  or /var/run. See policy bug #514326.
  * checks/menus{,.desc}:
+ [RA] Revert the change to not require update-menus in postinst.
  This is still needed due to #518919. Don't require update-menus in
  postrm for regular menu files, only for menu-methods, but also don't
  warn if it's present. (Closes: #519300)
  * checks/scripts:
+ [RA] Policy allows scripts to assume that /bin/sh supports local
  with simple variable assignments.
+ [ADB] Check all added and removed diversions at once rather than
  as each maintainer script is processed. This avoids differing
  results and false positives if the postrm is processed before other
  maintainer scripts.  (Closes: #518966)

+ [RA] Refresh against unstable.
  * data/fields/virtual-packages:

  * data/output/manual-references:
+ [RA] Refresh reference data against Policy 3.8.1, doc-base 0.9.1,
  and developers-reference 3.4.1.
  * data/standards-version/release-dates:
+ [RA] Add release date for 3.8.1.

  * debian/control:
+ [RA] Update to standards version 3.8.1.

  * lib/Dep.pm:
+ [RA] Remove, replaced with Lintian::Relation.

[Bug 368410] Re: Jaunty Crashes Randomly

2009-04-28 Thread Bryce Harrington
Hi albert fishnets, you have used the word Randomly in the subject of
your bug, which often indicates you have not pinpointed the problem
sufficiently to enable us to help you. Please spend some additional
time troubleshooting your bug to identify steps to reproduce or other
information which would allow you describe it more specifically than
happens randomly.

Further, you have not included the basic information normally required
of X.org bug reports. Please refer to
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Reporting for additional advice on how to make
a proper bug report against X. Indeed, you may find other
troubleshooting ideas and workarounds in the pages linked from
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/

Sorry we cannot yet be of more specific help, but let us wish you luck
in doing your additional analysis, and thank you for your work to help
make Ubuntu better. You are welcome to ask specific questions here; as
we have time we may be able to give some guidance.

[Bug 368453] [NEW] about usbserial device descriptor in 9.04

2009-04-28 Thread liyingzhen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hal

I always used ubuntu 8.04 to programe sorftware about serial device since The
os upgrade to ubuntu 9.04.
But my programe can't use in 9.04. There is somthing changed in HAL in 9.04.

like the serial device descriptor ttyUSB0, ttyUSB1, ttyUSB2
in 8.04, the info.udi in hal is:

/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_device_1bbb_0_1234567890ABCDEF_if0_serial_usb_0

/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_device_1bbb_0_1234567890ABCDEF_if1_serial_usb_1

/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_device_1bbb_0_1234567890ABCDEF_if3_serial_usb_2
  the name of the descriptor is ttyUSB + number( in info.udi string's
last number).
and in 9.04 the info udi is

/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_device_1bbb_0_1234567890ABCDEF_if0_serial_usb_0

/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_device_1bbb_0_1234567890ABCDEF_if1_serial_usb_0

/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/usb_device_1bbb_0_1234567890ABCDEF_if3_serial_usb_0
The serial device descriptor ttyUSB0, ttyUSB1, ttyUSB3
the name of the descriptor is ttyUSB + interfacenumber.
so I can't used my programe. The value form the HAL is changed. Pleale tell me
what happen.
Thank you .

[Bug 126897] Re: IBM ScrollPoint mouse scrolls vertically VERY fast and has no horizontal scrolling

2009-04-28 Thread paul eastham
I could not find any info under

with the same mouse (IBM 31P7405). This is my favorite mouse under
Windows, but with Ubuntu the erratic scrolling is rather boring. I don't
understand Ubuntu enough to be technical, I just want it to work.

1) Is there a fix?
2) Will there be a fix?
3) Do I just shut up and put up?
4) Will I have to swap my mouse when I swap OS's on my dual boot system forever?

Thanks.

[Bug 368135] Re: X crashes after a few minutes or seconds (Jaunty)

2009-04-28 Thread floyd0815
EDIT:
When I use my touchpad, then the touchscreen for 2-3 clicks, then touchpad,
then touchscreenfor 2-3..., and so on -- all is good.

But when I use only my touchscreen -- X crashes after a few hits.

I recognized, that when I use the touchpad and after the touchscreen --
X crashes later as when I use first (and only) the touchscreen.

Maybe this helps.

Sorry for the duplicated bug, but firefox hasn't reacted at the first
button press so I pressed it a second time.

Also sorry for my poor English.

[Bug 367442] Re: [regression] Jaunty and Intrepid screen xserver won't start

2009-04-28 Thread martin
@BadBoy, since Bryce created a package with the patch it's now
sufficient if you download and install the updated DEBs.

Basically you can do:
wget
http://ppa.launchpad.net/bryceharrington/ppa/ubuntu/pool/main/x/xserver-xorg-video-openchrome/xserver-xorg-video-openchrome_0.2.903+svn713-1ubuntu1.1~bug367442~1_i386.deb
wget
http://ppa.launchpad.net/bryceharrington/ppa/ubuntu/pool/main/x/xserver-xorg-video-openchrome/xserver-xorg-video-via_0.2.903+svn713-1ubuntu1.1~bug367442~1_i386.deb

Followed by:
sudo dpkg -i
xserver-xorg-video-openchrome_0.2.903+svn713-1ubuntu1.1~bug367442~1_i386.deb
sudo dpkg -i
xserver-xorg-video-via_0.2.903+svn713-1ubuntu1.1~bug367442~1_i386.deb

Once you have done this, try to start X again and finally re-run the log file
collection command so we can see how it went:
apport-collect 367442

It should be possible to do all these steps straight from the live CD
and if you're lucky and the upstream dev was right then you might be
able to run the apport-collect command from a terminal inside a a
running X.org

I can confirm this bug. I believe it is a gtk filechooser bug and has
nothing to do with firefox. I can reproduce this behaviour in gedit and
gimp. This is a really annoying bug, as we're talking about 25s that it
takes to load the file chooser on my workstation (in every Gnome
application!).

[Bug 318775] Re: D-Bus Policy needs checking

2009-04-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package devicekit-power - 007-0ubuntu1

---
devicekit-power (007-0ubuntu1) karmic; urgency=low

  * New upstream release:
- Get rid of internal Object and instead use the GObject property system.
- Ship a shared library. There are now three external projects using
  copies of this, which is ridiculous.
- Require I_KNOW_THE_DEVICEKIT_POWER_API_IS_SUBJECT_TO_CHANGE.
- Fix up DBus interface for CVE-2008-4311. (LP: #318775)
- Fix g-p-m and DeviceKit-power when running with a permissive dbus.
- Remove use of EggObjList, and make the library more sane.
- Fix compile error in dkp-power.
  * debian/control, debian/libdevkit-power-gobject{1,-dev}.install: Build and
install new shared library.
  * Add bzr-builddeb configuration (merge mode).
  * Add debian/watch.
  * debian/devicekit-power.install: Install missing manpages and udev rules.

[Bug 317626] Re: Linkedin not working right

2009-04-28 Thread Alexander Sack
ajax sides are kind of likely to show weird behaviour on networking
issues; if the site doesn't do proper error handling for network
failures, the user might just experience a broken behaviour thing.

Also consider to check whether an extension interferes with linked in
(google gears, etc.).

For now i consider this a non-firefox bug. Consider to complain to
linkedin directly too.

[Bug 305394] Re: No subpixel smoothing

2009-04-28 Thread Alexander Sack
 However if I start FF3.5 or TB3 with gksudo

oh. please dont do that. besides from general security hazards, doing
this calls for troubles and usually does not help (except for cases
where you already ran them as root before!!); running this as root
creates files/caches as root in some system directories and that might
also cause issues lateron, when the user cannot recreate/invalidate
those.

 .fontconfig

usually font config caches work quite well, i would think that you had a
manually setup (and most likely broken):

 .fonts.conf

[Bug 367694] Re: SIGWINCH causes xserver to briefly hang

2009-04-28 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xorg

  I have traced this bug back to one of the xorg packages. Some change
  between 8.10 and 9.04 causes SIGWINCH to hang the system for about 2
  seconds. I use compiz, but I observed the problem with the fallback
  window manager as well. Opening windows, resizing them, restoring them,
  and opening the second tab in gnome-terminal all cause this 2 second
  hang where the cursor still moves, but everything else stops updating
  (such as gkrellm).

  I am running the ati provided fglrx drivers on x86_64. This bug is not
  tied to a specific version of that driver.

  Here are the packages currently held:

  x11-xserver-utils   7.3+5
  xorg 1:7.4~5ubuntu3
  xserver-common   2:1.5.2-2ubuntu3
  xserver-xorg   1:7.4~5ubuntu3

  xserver-xorg-input-all  1:7.4~5ubuntu3
  xserver-xorg-input-evdev1:2.0.99+git20080912-0
  xserver-xorg-input-kbd1:1.3.1-1ubuntu2

  xserver-xorg-video-all 1:7.4~5ubuntu3
  xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.9.0+git20081003.f9

  There are other xorg-video packages held, but they aren't used.

  As I said, I have the ati fglrx driver installed via the ati provided
  script ati-driver-installer-9-4-x86.x86_64.run, but I should note that
  before I installed that my display was all garbled after my update to
  9.04.

2009-04-28 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

  I was upgrading for 8.10 to 9.04.
  I have an Intel 945M video card.
  After upgrade, Xorg was freezing during its launch.
  I discovered that removing xorg-driver-fglrx packages solved this freeze.
  I found this thanks to bug #295018.
  The xorg-driver-fglrx should not prevent Xorg from starting even if the
expected hardware is not found.

[Bug 367126] Re: node name is /dev/dri/card0 fails

2009-04-28 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

  I installed Ibex and updated everything. Then installed the ATI drivers
  from the repository. I did the aticonfig -initial - f command but it
  complained that I didn't have an xorg.conf. Even though I did I still
  rebuilt it with sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg (which I found in an
  Ubuntu forum) and sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg which I
  found in one of the logs.

  It won't boot into anything but low resolution and at the bottom of the
  log is this:

  drmOpenDevice: node name is /dev/dri/card0
  drmOpenDevice: open result is -1, (No such device or address)

[Bug 366536] Re: fglrx broken in Jaunty with SyncMaster 305T and HD4870x2

2009-04-28 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xorg-driver-fglrx

  ubuntu-bug -p xorg
  unknown chip id 0x9441, can't guess.

  Just upgraded my primary desktop to 64-bit Jaunty, but when I restarted
  the system was completely unusuable. Had to invoke the rescue kernel
  and boot into the command line to remove all fglrx packages. The open
  source drivers are usable with metacity, but I have completely lost
  compiz and all desktop effects. I am using a Samsung Syncmaster 305t
  (2560x1600 resolution) with a Sapphire HD4870x2 graphics card on an
  i7/940.

  Worse, when I switched to the open source drivers it initially seemed to
  have problems recognizing my display and assumed my monitor was a lower
  resolution 4:3 display, resulting in a fuzzy, stretched desktop.
  (Didn't seem to detect it properly) Only with a complete purge and
  reconfigure using information gleaned from others bitten by Jaunty ATI
  issues allowed the open source driver to properly detect my monitor.

  I have attached my (working) open source xorg.conf along with inline
  dumps the busted ones generated by fglrx if it helps. I realize you
  don't have much control over closed source drivers, but unfortunately
  this is the sort of thing that prevents Bug #1 from ever being fixed.
  Non technical users with ATI cards would be completely hosed by the
  upgrade and have no idea how to fix it. If you want, I can retry the
  fglrx drivers when you think a fix is available. I really miss compiz.

  * Note *

  When the fix becomes available, be sure to check it against VLC, movie
  player, google earth. and celestia with compiz enabled. These were
  problematic with 8.10+ compiz, and I had to turn compiz off to use them.

[Bug 364497] Re: Jaunty + fglrx + Xinerama crashes X (Ubuntu 9.04 AMD64)

2009-04-28 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

  After upgrading from Ubuntu 8.04 to Ubuntu 9.04 RC, enabling the
  Xinerama server option with the fglrx driver crashes X. This is simliar
  to bug #355841, but since that was for i386 I wanted to file another bug
  for amd64. From what I can tell, on bootup the fglrx driver will finish
  initializing and then crash the X server while trying to configure the
  CRTCs. When X tries to start again, the fglrx driver causes a kernel
  lockup during the DDC probe. The fglrx built-in Xinerama extension
  appears to work fine, but since maximized windows using this extension
  span multiple displays this is not a valid workaround.

[Bug 363412] Re: Xinerama does not work on jaunty RC with fglrx driver

2009-04-28 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xorg-driver-fglrx

  I'm using an ATI HD 2600 pro and find that enabling Xinerama causes X to
  produce a garbled display (basically looks like the the memory from boot
  screen at top but garbled / wrong colours, so I assume it's set the
  screen resolution but hasn't cleared the frame buffer). It appears the
  screen resolution is set on both screens, but X seems to hang shortly
  after. I notice the hard-disk goes for a second or so, but then then my
  machine completely freezes. Obviously I'm expecting both screens to work
  as a large desktop and the system not to crash in the process (excuse
  the sarcasm, it did ask me in the guidelines to state what i expect to
  happen =p)

  Ctrl Alt Backspace / AltGr SysReq / 3 finger salute doesn't seem to be
  acknowledged, so I get the impression this is a kernel freeze.

  This is damn annoying for me (as I really need 2 screens). I understand
  it's not totally something that is under the control of Ubuntu
  Developers directly, but I assume you communicate with ATI and have
  prodding authority when it comes to making them patch up their stinking
  code blob. Both my screens are the same (DVI digital) at 1600x1200.

  I've using a fresh install of the release candidate (as I released it's
  only since the beta fglrx got updated for xserver 1.6), with all updates
  installed.

  I can get independent dual screens to work (i.e. work as independent X
  displays, however compiz doesn't fully work here) and for both displays
  to mirror a screen with full acceleration (compiz is fine here).

  Intrepid and Gutsy seemed fine under this setup, so I really would like
  this to work in jaunty as well if you can squeeze this in between now
  and the final release.

  I'm not too sure what else you want from me, would a lspci -vvv be of
  any help?

  This is similar to bug #40544, however I've opened a new report as this
  affects Jaunty, not Dapper, and so I assume the causes / reasons for the
  bug are very different.

  Thanks for your time.
  Jase.

[Bug 363104] Re: Oversized Text with fglrx in Kubuntu Jaunty

2009-04-28 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

  Hello,

  i am using the release candiate of Kubuntu 9.04 and have installed fglrx with
the included GUI installer. After a reboot the fonts in KDE are totaly
oversized. Like it is descibed in the bugs:
  bug #353074
  bug #219629
  My Display is an Asus VW161 wich is a 16.1 16:9 LCD with a max resolution of
1360x768. The LCD is connected to the vga out of my mobos IGP Radeon HD 3300.
As described here
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/HugeFonts i have read the Xorg.log
and found
  (II) fglrx(0): clock: 85.5 MHz   Image Size:  34 x 19 mm
  So i think a qurik is needed for my setup. Or is there another workaround to
tell X that my Monitors dimensions are 34 cm x 19 xm and not 34 mm x 19 mm.
With the vesa drive i have no problem. I have attached my Xorg.log.

  Playing video is fine after login, but after the computer has been on a

  frames per second. The video is this choppy as well as the desktop.
  Moving a window is choppy for example. I forgot to look the last time
  this happened, but I am pretty sure xorg was taking 25% cpu (quad core
  cpu) and the process manager said it was in futex_wait. Logging out and
  back in allows the session to continue with no problems.

[Bug 351263] Re: package pacemaker None [modified: /var/lib/dpkg/info/pacemaker.list] failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite `/usr/sbin/attrd_updater', which is also in package heartbeat

2009-04-28 Thread Max Ashton
This bug is mirrored upstream. http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=488636

Cursory research into both heartbeat and pacemaker packages suggests
this issue is due to project split, which lead to some confusion between
filenames etc. According to http://www.linux-ha.org/HomePage , for
compatibility between heartbeat and pacemaker, it's required that we use
heartbeat v. 2.99.0. Until then, the deps will break pacemaker.

2009-04-28 Thread Bryce Harrington
We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response
from the original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please
feel free to reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could,
please test against the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this
confirms the bug is one we may be able to pass upstream for help.

[Bug 195605] Re: Sound not configured properly on Sony Vaios using snd_hda_intel

2009-04-28 Thread Michael Doube
** Description changed:

  Recent Sony Vaios use snd_hda_intel for audio, which is generally good
  and supported by alsa = 1.0.15, but the Ubuntu installer does not
  properly detect hardware and configure the driver. The well-known fix
  to this bug is to install the newest available alsa and add to the end
  of /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base these 3 lines:

  alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
  options snd-card-0 index=0
  options snd-hda-intel model=vaio

  Then restart ALSA:

  ]$ sudo /etc/init.d/alsa-utils restart

  (In Jaunty, alsa-base has been renamed to alsa-base.conf and you have to
  restart your machine to effect any change)

  This enables the headphone jack, speaker muting on headphone insertion,
  the internal microphone (and I think the mic jack, though I haven't
  tested it), which otherwise don't work.

  Andy Whitcroft reckons this can be handled by the kernel's quirk subsystem if
appropriate info is provided:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/195605/comments/24

  So can people please add comments with their model number, the working
model=something string from /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base and attach the output
of
  ]$ sudo lspci -vvnn |  lspci.txt

  For VGN-: NR11Z, N31M
  Use:  options snd-hda-intel model=sony-assamd

- For VGN-: SZ650N, SZ61, FZ11S
+ For VGN-: SZ650N, SZ61, FZ11S, FZ15G
  Use:  options snd-hda-intel model=vaio

  For VGN-: FZ140E, FE41E
  Use: unknown

[Bug 368460] [NEW] System-config-printer dosen't download and install the proprietary driver plugin from HP

2009-04-28 Thread perseus
Public bug reported:

CUPS seems to work correctly. After switching the printer on, system-
config-printer starts and detects the printer (HP1018) correctly. Prompt
you were asked for installing the proprietary driver plugin. After
confirming it with install plugin and entering the root-password,
system-config-printer shows no reaction - the printer is not installed.

[Bug 368457] [NEW] Sierra Wireless AirCard USBConnect 881U does not work in Jaunty 9.04

2009-04-28 Thread Hendy Irawan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

I have a Sierra Wireless AirCard USBConnect 881U 3G/HSDPA/UMTS USB
modem.

This device works out of the box on Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex 8.10 but I
cannot get it to work using Ubuntu 9.04's NetworkManager.

I tried wvdial/wvdialconf but not successful for some reason.

I tried gnome-ppp but gnome-ppp prompts for a password that my ISP
(Telkomsel Flash) do not require (and therefore must be left empty).

I am using UMTSMon to connect and it works flawlessly with this modem,
save for some quirks (Firefox/Pidgin detecting as offline etc.) because
I'm using UMTSMon, not NetworkManager.

Note that I also have Nokia E71 and it works well as 3G modem with
NetworkManager.
