[Bug 372672] [NEW] [Problem] The program doesn't continue the scan

2009-05-06 Thread Dilmi Fethi
Public bug reported:

I've installed ClamAv , I started a careful scan of all my computer (Including

[Bug 357673] Re: No notification when sliding audio volume, muting volume, sliding LCD brightness on X31, X32, T60, R50e, T42, R52

2009-05-06 Thread bwalex
For the volume you can change the line that reads volume3 to volume*7.
notify_notification_set_hint_int32(not, value, volume3);
I normally use shifts wherever possible, but obviously LSL by 3 multiplies by
8, and given a maximum raw volume of 14, that goes a bit above the maximum.
Nonetheless multiplying by 7 stays a bit under the minimum. If you happen to
have a maximum of 15, choose whatever value you think is suited :P

Same thing for the brightness; find the following line:
show_notify_brightness(brightness*14);
And change it to whatever you want, but remember that we are dealing with
integers and not float/double. This applies to both.

[Bug 372483] Re: Amarok daap playback from mt-daapd/firefly doesn't work

libxine1-ffmpeg was the missing piece.

Shouldn't that be a dependency, then? I can't imagine it's very useful
to ship Amarok unable to play MP3s by default. If it's a patent issue,
maybe there should be some sort of warning dialog on startup, or you
might see a lot of bug reports...

[Bug 372685] [NEW] Network card freezes while copying large files over samba

2009-05-06 Thread agnul
Public bug reported:

When copying somewhat large files (say around 100Mb) from my linux
laptop to a windows share on the lan (either using nautilus or mounting
the share) the copying stops after a couple of seconds and the network
card becomes unusable. ifconfig reports the device is up, but trying to
ping some host on the LAN I get destination unreachable. Doing an
ifconfig down up brings the interface back. Not sure if the issue is
samba or the nic driver.

I'm running a fully updated jaunty on an hp nc6320 laptop, the network card is
a broadcom using the tg3 driver.
Does anyone have any idea on what may be wrong?

[Bug 336670] Re: tab-completion of scp removes hostname

2009-05-06 Thread Jerome Reybert
This bug is being discussed in the red hat bugzilla too:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=66

It seems to exist a conflict between the scp auto completion and the gvfs one.
There are two solutions, waiting for a correction:
 - disable the gvfs autocompletion. For that, just add return at the top of
the file /etc/bash_completion.d/gvfs-bash-completion.sh
 - remove the gvfs package

For both solution, the behaviour is effective only if I kill X (I don't
know how to restart bash_completion).

[Bug 312739] Re: see pdf on destop but veiwer freezes

2009-05-06 Thread Dimitrios Symeonidis
paul, I can open the two files attached with Jaunty. Yes, the included
tables take quite some cpu to render, but after 10 seconds or so (on a
1.66GHz dual core) cpu usage drops back to 0. I tried the same with
xpdf, epdfview and acroread...

Can you try with the latest Ubuntu version and verify that the issue is
resolved for you?
Thank you, and good luck

[Bug 372528] Re: X freezes when accessing VHCS demo web site with firefox

2009-05-06 Thread Martin Olsson
cant repro on karmic + RV350 w/ -radeon + FF 3.0.10
cant repro on jaunty + intel G45 + FF 3.0.10

However, since I don't have any login to this page I just get the login
page. I assume you're getting a different webpage than the login page?

Is there anything special with this webpage? Any really big images on it
or so? Is there any other page that consistently hangs xorg and what
doesn't require login?

Does this issue happen even if you turn off desktop 3D effects under
System::Preferences::Appearence?

Re: [Bug 150690] Re: Compiz Gutsy : Can't drag a window to another workspace

2009-05-06 Thread dougfractal
IMO the switcher should be like a mini 'expo' when in compiz mode, and
classic style when in metacity.

2009/5/6 wdesmet krom...@gmail.com

@paul beardsell: that sets the window manager back to metacity instead
of compiz which is why it works again.

The 'about' option on the workspace switcher states:
The Workspace Switcher shows you a small version of your workspaces that
 lets you manage your windows.

It allows you to do no such thing now. IMHO this is a bug and not a
 wishlist item.

Then delete ~/.kde/share/config/yakuakerc.
restart yakuake again, at it worked for me.

2009-05-06 Thread John Vivirito
ok here is more info.
when trying to shut down you get 4 system beeps and you get caught up on the
system halt message. However i did clean install of jaunty same hard disk same
PC did not do updates.

linux-generic= 2.6.28-11.14

linux-image-generic= 2.6.28-11.14

It shuts down fine. I tested this incase it was bios but i think the newest
kernel and the bios are not playing well with each other.
My gut tells me all of the system halt messages like i get are all the same.
he numbers change but nothing else.
I have A04 bios on a dell optiplex, you might want to find out from others what
they have.
Side note: it would be great is uname could give you say kernel version *-11.14

[Bug 368175] Re: Failed to load module libcanberra-gtk-module.so

2009-05-06 Thread smurf
My first observation is, that it is strange to use STDERR for other
purposes than outputting error messages. After all, you cannot blame
gtk for sending error messages to STDERR!

Definitely it is strange to use the STDERR instead of STDOUT, and after
seen what happened in this case, I inmediately change it in the new
script I' m writing.

Suppressing all error messages is a workaround with undesirable side-
effects: error messages usually are there with a purpose.

You are right, but in this case are suppressed only the errors from gtk
1.x.x, and probably if the gtk install is seriously broken your computer
will show more problems...

The next thing is the error message by itself. The requested module is
simply there, in my installation

In my installation as well

Besides, it is not indicated as a dependency of Xdialog (well, maybe
it is an indirect dependency,

Xdialog developper assumes that gtk installation MUST be 100 % ok on
each computer, for this reason he doesn' t care about dependencies.

libcanberra deals with sound and I don't consider that as an essential part of
the
functionality of Xdialog.

Definetely it isn' t

Let's wait for news.
Regards.

 Luca

Re: [Bug 309208] Re: apport-retrace wrongly installs older dbgsyms

2009-05-06 Thread Martin Pitt
Oliver Gerlich [2009-05-03 11:34 -]:
I think this patch means that apport-retrace will not install a dbgsym
package if there's a newer ddeb available (for example from -proposed)
but the user has the older (non-proposed) deb package installed.

In this case, if you don't use -proposed for packages, you shouldn't
use -proposed for ddebs either. Then you'll get a more consistent
behaviour.

[Bug 73023] Re: Round orange emblems have lack usability

2009-05-06 Thread Ivan Sagalaev
BTW... Some time ago when we were discussing the issue in ubuntu-art
mail list Mark Shuttleworth asked about some form of testing this
issue[1]. Since then I've found one good analysis[2] but hadn't attach
it because Troy James Sobotka has closed the ticket[3] referring to
Mark's decision (which I never saw BTW). But now it's open and has got
some interest so I think we can try again?

Anyway, all points above still stand. I just don't know who now in the
position of making decisions here.

[Bug 314600] Re: fglrx versions newer than 8.543 cause system hang and panic

2009-05-06 Thread Liuk
After upgrading from 8.10 to 9.04 64 bit on my HP EliteBook 8530p with ATI HD
3650, I can confirm that fglrx 8.600 provided by Jaunty is not working.
The machine is hanging with Black Screen of Death.
The Xorg.0.log is not reporting anything useful. I was not able to catch any
other message from the kernel.
Tryed even with previous kernel 2.6.27-11 from 8.10, same black screen of death.
Even tryed with fglrx 8.602 downloaded from ATI site and installed from sources
following this guide:
http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubuntu_Jaunty_Installation_Guide

With 8.10 the fglrx driver was working fine.

Bad thing unfortunately.

Cheers,
Luca

In my experience I've see tree types of freeze:

(3) just a crash of kdm. Then I can login into kdm-login-interface and the pc

[Bug 372532] Re: Random xorg crash with gdm_slave_xioerror_handler fatal error

2009-05-06 Thread Martin Olsson
Also, do you current use the compiz window manager? i.e. what is your
setting in System::Preferences::Appearance::Visual Effects ?

Please install the following debug symbol packages:
sudo apt-get -y install libc6-dbg xserver-xorg-core-dbg libgl1-mesa-dri-dbg
libgl1-mesa-glx-dbg xserver-xorg-video-radeon-dbg xserver-xorg-video-ati-dbg
libx11-6-dbg libice6-dbg

If you can capture the stacktrace again with these debug symbols we
might be able to get function names for the remaining stackframes as
well.

Or, even better do you have access to 2 computers? If so, it would
be useful if you connected to the affected system with ssh and then
attached GDB to the X process. Once the bug happens again, please run
bt full in gdb and paste the output here. To make that more convenient
you can first activate logging in gdb using set logging file
xorg_backtrace.txt followed by set logging on; all subsequent gdb out
is then recorded to this file.

Mored detailed information about obtaining good backtraces is available here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing

Is there anything else what makes your installation unusual? Is this a
plain desktop ubuntu install or is this machine connect to a big office
/ school network with LDAP authentication or such?

[Bug 224365] Re: Apparmor prevents printing with cups-pdf

Thanks Micah. These appear to be the problem:

audit(1241581234.818:31): operation=capable name=dac_override pid=4905

audit(1241581234.818:32): operation=capable name=dac_read_search pid=4905

What is the value of the 'Out' directory in /etc/cups/cups-pdf.conf?
Does that directory exist for your user? Is it a symlink?

[Bug 372686] Re: Samsung SCX-4200 driver

2009-05-06 Thread Dimitrios Symeonidis
carlos, don't write in capital letters, it's considered shouting and
it's not polite

do you have the splix package installed on your system? that should
provide the driver for your printer, which should be the file
/usr/share/ppd/splix/samsung/scx4200.ppd

if installing splix doesn't work, here's a few links that should help you
install your printer under ubuntu:

[Bug 372695] [NEW] create new user account silently fails

2009-05-06 Thread FernanAguero
Public bug reported:

As a system administrator, if you try to create a new account, using the
graphical utility (System-Administration-Users and Groups) and you set
the user id manually to a value that is already in use by another user,
the program will silently ignore the action (it will show the new user
in the list, but if you close the utility and reopent it again, the new
user is gone -- and it never really gets written in /etc/passwd).

The problems, as I see them, currently are:

1. The utility allows you to set the user id to a value that is already in use
without giving a warning
2. The utility shows you a list of users that is not a real reflection of
/etc/passwd

How to reproduce it:
1. Inspect /etc/passwd and look for an existing user account. Take note of its
user id (usually 1001 would work)
2. Open the Users and Groups tool, create a new user and in the Advanced tab,
set the user ID to this number (1001)
3. See how the new user is shown in the list of users
4. Close the Users and Groups tool
5. Open the users and Groups tool
6. Verify that the new user does not exist.

Tried it in Ubuntu-9.04 (Jaunty)

[Bug 372694] [NEW] gnome terminal GUI (when using ssh) is very slow

2009-05-06 Thread Ittay Dror
Public bug reported:

after upgrading to jaunty, gnome terminal started being very slow when
scrolling contents of tabs. this seems to manifest itself in tabs where
there's an ssh to another machine (though i can't figure why). scrolling
takes 100% of a core (i have thinkpad t61 with dual core).

also, hitting on the scroll area, above or below the bar, should normall
scroll a page. now it scrolls several (which means that if i want to
scroll a page i need to click the small arrows at the end of the scroll
area multiple times)

finally, in many cases, clicking on a tab (with the attempt to switch to
that tab) detaches the tab into a standalone window. very annoying.

[Bug 372385] Re: gnome desktop depends on cheese

2009-05-06 Thread matius142
Similarly to the issues raise in bug #372385 I have found out gnome
desktop environment (version 2.26.1) is a dependency when removing
epiphany-browser-data, epiphany-extensions, epiphany-gecko, cups-client
via synaptic manager version 0.62.5.

Furthermore if you try to remove libcups2 package, the following
packages are classed as dependency adobe-flashplugin, alacarte, apport-
gtk, at-spi, bluez-gnome, brasero, compiz,dasher, deskbar-applet
,desktop-base,ekiga, empathy,eog,epiphany -extensions, epiphany-gecko,
evince, evolution, firefox 3.0,foomatic-db-engine, gcalctool, gconf-
editior,ddebi, gdm, gedit, ghostscript,gimp,gksu, gnome, gnome-core,
gnome-desktop-enviroment, tomboy, synapic and many more lib packages.

As you can see from the large list of depenacies this is quite a big
problem.

I hope this information is usefully. Keep up the good work.
