[Bug 338669] Re: (Needs UXA) painting artifacts after qt4.5 upgrade on intel chipset
Little update: after re-installing intrepid on a free partition (and sharing /home between installs) I ran into bug 372487 (just reporting here to emphasize that downgrading the OS is usually not a good idea). The good news: with KDE 4.2 from intrepid backports the system is back to a usable state. (Just took some ours of downloading both for the install and to repair the damage of bug 372487). Also, if anyone provides packages for KDE 4.3 in jaunty I can immediately test the effect on an affected machine, kind of in a sandbox, i.e., without the risk of making the machine unusable again. Perhaps, using two bootable partitions and upgrading only one at a time is a fair strategy to reduce risks... some redundancy of that kind seems necessary these days ... -- (Needs UXA) painting artifacts after qt4.5 upgrade on intel chipset https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/338669 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 361689] Re: hald segfault when using a raid volume
I think I can get you started. I mean, the first step to creating a RAID volume is to think it out. Where do you need redundancy? Where do you need speed? Then map out your partitions (especially if you have different sized disks). Remember that RAID will cause a slight (in the case of RAID0 or RAID1) to slightly greater (RAID5 or RAID6) processor and I/O load. That is the trade-off for getting better overall disk performance. Although it is supposedly not needed to RAID0 your swap partitions across disks (supposedly the swap daemon manages multiple disks very well) it doesn't hurt to do so and is an easy and safe way to get started with RAID. You might consider making this your test case. This page lays out mdadm and Linux RAID pretty well: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=408461 Basically: 1. format disks you want to use as RAID partitions 2. create a RAID array using mdadm --create /dev/md0 --level=[level] --raid-devices=[number of devices] [device1] [device2]...[deviceN] 3. assemble the array 4. format the array in the filesystem of your choice (like any other partition) 5. mount it like you would any other disk partition Pretty simple, eh? -- hald segfault when using a raid volume https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/361689 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Fwd: [Bug 368461] Re: desktop freeze with kwin desktop effects on Radeon X600 and X1600
As I speek... Just when I click to send...freeze :-) This time the freeze is similar to type (1) but with the difference that I can switch to the console. I've copied all /var/log/. I want just to note that sometimes, after the crash, in the dmesg add some message [drm] Num pipes: 1 as you can see in kern.log. I forgot to write that, yesterday I also have installed the libgl1-mesa-dri-dbg libc6-dbg xserver-xorg-core-dbg xserver-xorg-video-ati-dbg packages (I don't know how use that packages, I've just installed) but I haven't found any backtrace... -- desktop freeze with kwin desktop effects on Radeon X600 and X1600 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/368461 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 368273] Re: Jaunty 9.04 Blind to XP's Shared Network Printer

[Bug 252571] Re: .desktop file not honoring PATH environment variable
No, it has no Path entry. I can also put directly Exec=/opt/bin/myapp, but I don't want to edit *.desktop files lying in /usr/share/applications. Maybe I need to explain my real scenario: we are using a thinclient environment where we need to tweak many applications so they just work for the end users (e.g. sound, cd burning, 3d graphics). Our first approach was to edit the *.desktop files to run those specific applications with the corresponding tweak (e.g. use padsp to launch java to have remote sound). That approach doesn't scale well, because after every system update, some *.desktop files where replaced with newer ones, and our tweaks get loosed. Our next approach was to use wrappers for those specific applications. Those wrappers lay in /opt/bin. So when some one starts java.desktop it really should start /opt/bin/java (and that runs padsp /usr/bin/java). BTW: Our current workaround was to edit directly the libkdecore.so.4.2.0 library and replace the hard coded /usr/bin path with /opt/bin (see previous post for details about the PATH issue). A really nasty hack, but it work for us. -- .desktop file not honoring PATH environment variable https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/252571 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kdelibs in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
[Bug 343727] Re: [Jaunty] Cannot connect to a Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000
I'm using a PS3 - PPC machine with JAUNTY final PPC with a Microsoft Notebook 5000 mouse, the only solution is sudo hidd --search. The problem with this approach is that exactly like in Ubuntu 8.04 or 8.10, the mouse looses connection after a random amount of time so it's not really usable (couple of seconds - 40 minutes)! If I reboot the machine the mouse does not autoreconnect as a user above me said, maybe every dongle is treated differently? [Bug 300227] Re: Digital clock shows HH instead of hour
I've had the exact same 'problem', running KDE 4 on Fedora 9, showing 'HH:02' in the digital clock. [Bug 271700] Re: ExpressCard CF adapter limited to UDMA/33
Kernel parameters should be passed to the kernel:), which means that it should be added to the configuration file of your boot manager. In Ubuntu default boot manager is grub, therefore in default configuration you'll have to edit '/boot/grub/menu.lst' file. Each entry looks like, notice the 'libata.force=80c ' added at the end of 'kernel' line: title Ubuntu 9.04, kernel 2.6.28-11-generic #Name displayed in the menu uuid b50d9919-fc3e-4402-***#ID of the partition where kernel is located kernel/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.28-11-generic root=UUID=b50d9919-fc3e-4402-** ro quiet splash libata.force=80c #kernel file + options!!! initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.28-11-generic quiet It is also convenient to add the same option to the line starting with (also found in '/boot/grub/menu.lst' file) # defoptions=quiet splash so changing it to # defoptions=quiet splash libata.force=80c (Notice # in the beggining). This is an option for update-grub script, which is called whenever new kernel is installed, thus will be automatically added for future updates. This solution should work the same as the one used by Davis (specifying 'libata' module option in the '/etc/modprobe.d/options' file), but should also work for statically compiled 'libata' module, though I don't know if Davis's won't work in this way too. -- ExpressCard CF adapter limited to UDMA/33 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/271700 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
