2009-06-18 Thread Philip Muskovac
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better.
Can you please attach a complete terminal log of your installation attempt?
(To set the terminal output to english first type 'export LANGUAGE=C' -
assuming that you're using bash)

** Changed in: ubuntu

** Description changed:

If i try to install a .deb file with Package Installer the installation
  stops with:

dpkg: Kann Dateideskriptorflags für Dateideskriptor für Paketstatus

translated to english (i hope its correct):

- dpkg: Could not read file descriptor flafs for filedescriptor for
+ dpkg: Could not read file descriptor flags for filedescriptor for
packetstatus and progress: Bad file descriptor.

I tried several .deb files. Always the same error.

I attached one of the .deb files (Epson V10 scanner driver. Maybe only
  my system is affected.

[Bug 389203] [NEW] libfarsight incorrectly linked against libjingle

2009-06-18 Thread Michael Sheldon
Public bug reported:

This is under Jaunty x86_64.

libjingle-transmitter in libfarsight looks for libjingle files in the
form libjingle*-0.3.so.0, whereas they are now named libjingle*.so.0
(without the -0.3).

e.g.
/usr/lib/libjinglebase-0.3.so.0 - /usr/lib/libjinglebase.so.0
/usr/lib/libjinglep2pclient-0.3.so.0 - /usr/lib/libjinglep2pclient.so.0
/usr/lib/libjinglep2pbase-0.3.so.0 - /usr/lib/libjinglep2pbase.so.0
etc.

This prevents things like telepathy's stream-engine (and any
applications that make use of it) from being able to provide VoIP
functionality for Google talk.

[Bug 13917] Re: CPAN's XML::SAX update conflicts with libxml-sax-perl's XML::SAX

2009-06-18 Thread EvanCarroll
** Description changed:

BUG: XML::SAX can not be updated with CPAN/CPANP without totally
breaking dpkg or other debian components that assume debian
  modifications are in XML::SAX.

The currently distributed libxml-sax-perl conflicts with upstream
XML::SAX. The debian developers hacked libxml-sax-perl's XML::SAX and
added the function save_parsers_debian, and short circuited the sub
  save_parsers.

The precedence order of perl's @INC demands /usr/local/share/perl5 holds
precedence over /usr/share/perl5, so the newer vanilla version from CPAN
will be used by all any include of XML::SAX. This reates a problem
because the cpan version of XML::SAX lacks the Debian specific
  functionality.

The fix is to remove Debian's pollution of XML::SAX class and subclass
it (XML::SAX), into XML::SAX::Debian with the added Debian
functionality. This will permit CPAN and CPANP updates of XML::SAX, and
it will permit Debian guys to extend XML::SAX as they wish

CLUE STRING:: Can't locate object method save_parsers_debian via package
XML::SAX
  WORK AROUND:: `cpanp uninstall XML::SAX`
+
+
+ Currently this is in the README.debian:
+
+ Original CPAN Package vs. Debian Package
+
+
+ Installing the original package from CPAN into /usr/local breaks the
+ Debian package, since the former is in Perl's @INC before the latter.
+ So, please don't do this.
+
+ If there's a new version of XML::SAX simply file a wishlist against
+ the Debian package and wait for the update.

not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you

you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

[Bug 363532] Re: Several system beeps on shutdown

2009-06-18 Thread Ivan
I have three different PCs, two with Jaunty and one with Mint Gloria.
The first shuts down with no beeps, the second (a Compaq DeskPro) has a
single beep and the third (a Dell Optiplex) several beeps. I do not
recall the beeps when I was using Hardy. No beeping when I log off
first before shutting down so this is what I do (when I remember).

[Bug 215403] Re: firefox download dialog state corrupted after running out of disk space

2009-06-18 Thread Márton Miklós
It still happens. I was downloading a file, and firefox told me i had no
more disk space (i really hadn't). I deleted some files, but the
download hasn't finished. Now the cancel or the pause button have no
effect. All subsequent downloading creates an entry with 'Starting...'
status, but the title shows the correct time remaining, and the files
are downloading without error.

The downloads are restarting after restarting firefox and everything
works as intended.

The version i use:
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.0.11) Gecko/2009060308

[Bug 138654] Re: Annoying and useless delays on password entry errors

2009-06-18 Thread Steve Langasek
I'm not sure the proposed patch actually addresses the original request
(is a 4x reduction in the delay, from 2 seconds to .5 seconds, that much
of an improvement?), but regardless, this is not just a usability issue,
there's also a security issue here. Any changes to the behavior of PAM
failure delays needs to be evaluated in the context of all PAM services
on the system, not just for the sudo and desktop login cases.

[Bug 389150] Re: my xorg is giving me trouble(only low graphics mode)

2009-06-18 Thread Brian Murray
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important
for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn
more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this bug as a
bug in xorg.
For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of applications
have bug reporting functionality built in to them. This can be accessed via
the Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the application with which you
are having an issue or using the command 'ubuntu-bug' and the package name in a
terminal. You can learn more about this feature at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

Re the full screen aspect, it could be coincidental, but sort of jumped

 check the dump output.

I don't think INTEL_DEBUG=sync applies, since I can get the crash without
any 3D applications. I attached a second dump to see if it's more useful

[Bug 386820] Re: X Server is already running on Display 0:

2009-06-18 Thread Arnaud Soyez
It appears to be a xorg or gdm problem. I'm setting the package as xorg,
please change it if that's xorg-related.

I removed the unnecessary complaints from the bug description. Thank you
for your comprehension.

** Description changed:

Whenever I try to log into the computer from GDM, I get a bug saying
that there is already an X Server running on Display 0:. It gives me an
option to start a new one on the next display. If I say yes, it has me
log on again, and then just tells me there's already an X server running
on that display. If I say no, it has me log on again and tells me the
same error. I'm told that I could work around this bug if I could
remove the X server lock in temp, however, the tty shells appear to be
broken too. I try to log into them and then they just have me enter my
  credentials again.

- I have never had this kind of negative experience before with Ubuntu,
- but this is simply intolerable. I'd like some kind of fix.

[Bug 388055] Re: [Karmic,G965,XorgEdge] Suspend, dualscreen broken

2009-06-18 Thread Bryce Harrington
Bug reports should focus only on a single issue. The suspend issue
might be a kernel problem, and in any case there's not sufficient
information to troubleshoot that. So this bug report will only focus on
the mirror issue. If you want the suspend issue investigated, file a
new bug against the kernel and refer to the suspend/resume
troubleshooting guide for directions on analysis you need to do and
information to include in your report.

2009-06-18 Thread Brian Murray
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see

Also btw when you file bugs in the future please use the 'ubuntu-bug'

[Bug 385325] Re: [armel] thunderbird-bin crashed with SIGSEGVI

2009-06-18 Thread Loïc Minier
So the backtrace looked similar as in the upstream bug I mentionned, but
attempts at using the upstream patch didn't help. One last thing to try
is patching libnss and running TB against that. Michael is also trying
a full clean upstream build of TB with the patch.

If that doesn't work, we could contact the upstream submitter in case he
has a different fix or we could bisect or debug the issue directly.

[Bug 261937] Re: Ubuntu server freeze when running more than one cpu in VMware ESX 3

2009-06-18 Thread Steve Beattie
I went ahead and converted ESX instances Ronald was testing back to
stock 8.04 installations, and the amd64 instance has reproduced the
freeze behavior three times in a period of a couple of hours (the first
time was the first boot post-installation.). I've updated the kernel to
the latest in hardy-updates to verify that it's not a userspace related
issue, but given that the prior 8.04.2 installations showed no signs of
the freezing behavior, I'm convinced this issue has been addressed.

Thanks for everyone's patience.

[Bug 389216] [NEW] System crash (PCI Openvox A800p)

2009-06-18 Thread bjorn
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I have just set up a ubuntu based server for home use. I was intended to
serve for various tasks but I started with Asterisk. Based on recommendations
on the web I downloaded the asterisk application as src and built the service
locally.
The system uses a Openvox A800p analog SLIC card to interface to the public
telephony
provided by Telia in Sweden.

Building and running the modules and system worked with no issues but the
system soon
started to crash and reboot. Sometimes already at boot, sometimes after a
random amount of time
and sometimes when I shutdown the system. It has crashed ~50 times during the
last 10 days.

I think the problem is related to the A800p PCI card since it stopped crashing
after I disabled
the opvxa1200.ko driver. I have tried to change PCI slot but no change. First I
had
xfce4 started for GUI access but stopped the gdm in case the graphical system
was involved
but I could not see any change.

The system is an old but very robust HP Proliant DL380 G3 rack server
with 2 Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 2.40GHz, 3 GB memory.

Asterisk software:

asterisk-1.4.26-rc1
asterisk-addons-1.4.8
dahdi-linux-2.2.0-rc5
dahdi-tools-2.2.0-rc3
opvxa1200.c
speex-1.2rc1

The opvxa1200.c is from Openvox:
http://www.openvox.cn/download/drivers/dahdi/

I have search /var/log/messages and dmesg but not found anything strange

The HP LightsOut system captures:
hpasmcli SHOW iml

Event: 99 Added: 06/18/2009 21:59
CRITICAL: PCI Bus - PCI Bus Error (Slot 0, Bus 6, Device 1, Function 0).

2009-06-18 Thread Brian Murray
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important
for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn
more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this bug as a
bug in linux which provides the kernel for Ubuntu.
For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of applications
have bug reporting functionality built in to them. This can be accessed via
the Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the application with which you
are having an issue. You can learn more about this feature at

[Bug 384269] Re: Esto no chuta

2009-06-18 Thread Arnaud Soyez
It seems to be a broken post-installation script from citadel-server, so
I have set the affected package to citadel.

** Package changed: ubuntu = citadel (Ubuntu)

[Bug 150161] Re: Status bar says item will be moved when copying

2009-06-18 Thread Lorenzo Delledonne
I'm not affected by this bug (using US locale), but I really wonder how is it
even possible that a small language fix hasn't been included in an official
release for a year and a half?
There isn't anger in my question, I just don't understand the mechanism ;-)

[Bug 386520] Re: Apps opened trough a document stays on background

2009-06-18 Thread VA
Deffinately a 'paper cut'. One of the 'I clicked on it, but nothing's
happening' stories. The moment I have to say Alt+Tab, it's too late.
P.S. I think it's Gnome, 'cause it happens also when opening a file in
the browser. E.g. torrent file in Epiphany, Deluge just waits for user
imput while I user has no idea that that is the case.
