[Bug 390405] Re: screen is erroring out with /var/run/screen needs to be mode 775

---
screen (4.0.3-13ubuntu2) karmic; urgency=low

  * debian/control: depend on byobu; this will replace the screen-profiles
version with the dpkg-diversion of /usr/bin/screen, which is causing
the permissions issue in LP: #390405
  * debian/patches/60-byobu-pointer.dpatch: add a one-liner pointing to byobu,

During the scrolling, Calc will scroll full cell at once. I need smooth

[Bug 372161] Re: bluetooth doesn't wake up after suspend

2009-06-23 Thread Taavi Palo
I have a similar problem with blueman. After suspend or hibernate, blueman
applet stops working properly. Restarting bluetooth doesn't help and after I
turn my notebook's bluetooth device switch off and on, blueman-applet claims do
be running but there's no visible windows or bt icon on tray.
Even after restart blueman doesn't work and the only solution I have figured
out is to reinstall blueman package and restart my computer.
I'm on Ubuntu 9.04 and using an internal dell bluetooth device.
If it gives you any help, I may gather debugging information next time it
happens.

Thank you.

[Bug 364441] Re: general protection fault: 0000 [#1] SMP at boot

2009-06-23 Thread massimop
Still happening, though I must say I'm pretty confused.

I'm experiencing lots of oops, with occasional lockups. I can't even
guess what triggers them, I don't see a recurring behavior.

I noticed though that once I get a oops, I get notified the same one every
boot, until a new one happen.
...
Jun 23 09:25:34 troutfishing kerneloops: Wrote 2963 bytes of oops log to
/usr/share/apport/kernel_oops
Jun 23 09:25:38 troutfishing kerneloops: Submitted 1 kernel oopses to
www.kerneloops.org
...

But I don't get anymore the kerneloops applet asking me if I want to
submit a bug (it's enabled in gnome-session-properties)

I'll try upstream kernel as soon as I can

thanks

[Bug 390993] Re: [Karmic] Screen blanks, and (EE) intel(0): underrun on pipe B! in log

2009-06-23 Thread Robert Hooker
Something went seriously wrong with your upgrade.

(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers//intel_drv.so
(II) Module intel: vendor=X.Org Foundation
compiled for 1.6.0, module version = 2.4.1

I'm guessing you used one of the retro drivers with a higher epoch
than ubuntu's in the past so it was not upgraded. Remove that repository
if you still have it around and do a sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get
install xserver-xorg-video-intel/karmic and let it downgrade to the
newer driver to fix things :)

work (and do so in my case).

[Bug 364205] Re: Kpackagekit does not seem to be able to handle unmet dependancies

2009-06-23 Thread Toni Helenius
It might be this bug that is causing the following erroneous behavior:

- Update notifier comes up with 14 bug fixes and 6 blocked updates
- I checked from sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade and it
wanted to INSTALL 6 and UPDATE 20
- This included the new kernel version to be installed

KPackageKit was unable to install the 6 blocked updates (doesn't try to
install the dependencies). Thus system remains not updated. I wonder how
this affects upgrades Jaunty - Karmic for example... This leads to
system not being updated properly and as such is an alarming bug (fails
to apply security updates etc.).

Using Kubuntu Jaunty.

[Bug 391000] [NEW] apcupsd defunct process death

2009-06-23 Thread amichair
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apcupsd

On Kubuntu Jaunty 9.04 connected to an APC SUA750I, I installed the
stock apcupsd 3.14.4-1 via apt-get. A couple configuration tweaks
(ISCONFIGURED=yes, USPCABLE usb, UPSTYPE usb, Device blank), and it
worked great - running apcaccess shows the status correctly.

However, after a reboot, or after an indeterminate amount of time
passes, running apcaccess results in a connection error, and ps shows
the apcupsd process dead as apcupsd defunct. I've also seen variants
in which apcupsd is ok and apccontrol is defunct, or when both are
defunct. Once this state is reached, the only way out of it is to kill
-9 apcupsd, and start it again manually (sudo /etc/init.d/apcupsd
start), after which apcaccess once again works. Sometimes within a few
seconds, or the next consecutive call to apcaccess, it is already dead
again, and sometimes it can keep working for a long while before this
recurs. This may be caused by losing USB connectivity (I've seen some
indication in the logs), though of course the pc and ups remain on and
physically connected the whole time.

So the bug is twofold:

First, apcupsd should never die because of an error accessing the usb -
it should keep polling as usual until it's reconnected, and report the
appropriate status in any case, whether online or disconnected.

Second, it shouldn't be losing connectivity when everything remains
connected. This may or may not be a bug in apcupsd - maybe it's the usb
drivers or something else - I don't know. But it's a problem.

[Bug 387297] Re: manage-credentials should not ask for Launchpad password directly

2009-06-23 Thread Stephan Hermann
Hi Leonard,

that's the very same workflow we use for leonov.
The way to go is a bit different, but regarding the implementation inside
LPLIB, this is ok.

I don't see any problems with this approach.

[Bug 372781] Re: Building the loop module in prevents using loop-aes with the default kernel

2009-06-23 Thread szamcsi
Grepping through kernel configurations of Debian:

linux-image-2.6.26-2-486_2.6.26-15lenny3_i386.deb
  CONFIG_BLK_DEV_LOOP=m

linux-image-2.6.26-2-486_2.6.26-15_i386.deb
  CONFIG_BLK_DEV_LOOP=m

linux-image-2.6.30-1-486_2.6.30-1_i386.deb
  CONFIG_BLK_DEV_LOOP=m

Same for RHEL4 and RHEL5.

The only one that I found, which made the same choice of not building loop
as a module is Fedora 11: kernel-2.6.29.4-167.fc11.i586.rpm
  CONFIG_BLK_DEV_LOOP=y

So I think Gentoo is not the only one making this possible.

[Bug 23293] Re: Nautilus windows should close on unmount

2009-06-23 Thread Yann Lossouarn
Errr... I see I'm not in the majority here, but eyh, I can still give my
opinion... ;) Two major principles in HMI ergonomics are :
- to let the user control the GUI,
- to provide users with feedback so that they remain conscious of the system
state.

It seems to me that applying this principle here would not lead to
redirecting the window to a new place (so that the user keeps control
about what happens), but to display a message telling him the
/media/usb_blahblah has been unmounted/ejected/whatever. This way, if he
mounts a new media, the content will be displayed in the same window.

[Bug 119672] Re: Gutsy Gibbon and FN keys on Sony Vaio

2009-06-23 Thread Keng-Yü Lin
Unfortunately it seems this bug is still an issue. Can you confirm this
issue exists with the most recent Jaunty Jackalope 9.04 release -
http://www.ubuntu.com/news/ubuntu-9.04-desktop . If the issue remains
in Jaunty, Please run the following command from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically gather and
attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux-image-2.6.28-11-generic bug #

If you could also test the latest upstream kernel available that would
be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine this
issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-
testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon
next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and
deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your
results.

Thanks in advance.
