It happens with Karmic as well on an USB. But only on a selective pc.
However if you wait like 5 min or more it should boot fine.

[Bug 500891] [NEW] /etc/pulse/default.pa loads /usr/share/sounds/ubuntu/stereo which is missing from Kubuntu

2009-12-27 Thread skierpage
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

In Kubuntu 9.10 amd64,
I noticed the following in /etc/pulse/default.pa
   load-sample-dir-lazy /usr/share/sounds/ubuntu/stereo
But this directory is absent in Kubuntu because package ubuntu-sounds isn't
installed. Instead Kubuntu has sounds like
/usr/share/sounds/KDE-Sys-Log-In.ogg from package kdebase-runtime-data.

I guess this is a very low-priority packaging glitch but it confused me
while debugging my PulseAudio problem...

[Bug 500894] [NEW] Can't reuse keys for shortcuts within Gnome-do

2009-12-27 Thread Tomek Chrzczonowicz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-do

How to reproduce:

1. Open Gnome-do preferences and go to Shortcuts tab.
2. Assign a new key to some action x.
3. Try to assign the key that was previously bound to action x to some other
action y

What happens:

Gnome-do acts as if the user didn't press anything. The prompt for new
key is still there, waiting for input.

What should happen:

Gnome-do should assign the key to the action.

For example:

1. Next Pane = Tab
2. Assign Insert to Next Pane. So now Next Pane = Insert
3. Double-click Last Result, you get the prompt for a new key
4. Press Tab and notice nothing happens. The prompt is still there and the key
is not assigned.

[Bug 500898] [NEW] Deskbar applet doesn't hide the prompt/results list when clicked a second time

2009-12-27 Thread Tomek Chrzczonowicz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: deskbar-applet

Steps to reproduce:

1. Click Deskbar icon
2. (optional) Type something in it.
3. Click Deskbar icon again

What happens:

1. If nothing was typed in, the prompt moves/extends a few(?) pixels down, but
doesn't hide
2. If something was typed in and results were shown, the results list is
shortened (needs more scrolling)

What should happen:

The prompt/result list should simply hide, as it used to.

2009-12-27 Thread Coqui Tester
Hi all,

In the process of helping install Ubuntu onto an Aspire 4810TZ, we found
the problem that the DVD-ROM was not working (Ubuntu 9.10). After
researching various web sites, found this one to be the most helpful.
However, I was not too happy with the solutions presented. I discovered
many of the above errors especially as described in the duplicate bug
#438527.

So I found an alternate solution that I consider to be fairly simple --
at least this worked for the Aspire using the Matshita DVD-RAM writer
UJ862AS.

Since I am using grub to boot the multiboot system, I edited the
/etc/default/grub file and changed the line as follows, adding the
option noacpi:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash noacpi

Ran update_grub and rebooted. After reboot, a UDF Volume icon appeared
on the desktop for the DVD disk and was able to access its content.

I am not sure if turning off ACPI will have any side effects ???

Hope this helps others.

then DVD movies (purchased) are not recognised - error message that media is

# ln -s /usr/sbin/dhcpd3 /usr/sbin/dhcpd

fixed this. Thanks RichardNeill.

Re: [Bug 448095] Re: resolvconf starts after ifupdown, does not pick the dns-nameserver and dns-search lines up from /etc/network/interfaces

2009-12-27 Thread TrReardon
Ok, I've tried with all your latest, and basically nothing has changed, it's
all still broken. On system boot, resolv.conf remains blank (or rather, it
is created, but with no entries, only the top comment lines).

ifdown/ifup fixes the problem. Same as the Ubuntu release problem.

Have you tried with vpnc or similar tunnel installed?

Does anything from /sbin/resolvconf get logged that I can read or send to
you?

[Bug 500913] [NEW] Week and Month calendar views have strange and broken mouse behaviour (as opposed to good Day and Work Week views)

2009-12-27 Thread Tomek Chrzczonowicz
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

There are significant differences in mouse behaviour between Day/Work
Week views(good) and Week/Month views(broken).

1. In Day/Work Week views, you _can_ Drag'n'Drop (good). In Week/Month views
you _can't_ (very bad)
2. In Day/Work Week views, double-clicking an event opens it in a new dialog
window (good). In Week/Month views it _doesn't_ - you have to double-click
_twice_ (very bad)
3. In Day/Work Week views, when you first click an event and then click
somewhere else in the calendar, the focus changes accordingly (good). In
Week/Month views, when you first click an event and then click somewhere else
in the calendar, the focus doesn't change, it's still on the event (very bad)

The Day/Work Week views mouse behaviour is functional and intuitive. The
Week/Month mouse behaviour is very cumbersome and incosistent.

I can't see any rationale for having 2 completely separate mouse
behaviours between the calendar views. This is most likely a bug.

[Bug 500915] [NEW] awesome segfaults on startup

2009-12-27 Thread Brad Clements
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: awesome

I recently upgraded from 8.04 to 9.10

I had a manually installed awesome 3.1-rc5 installed previously and it
worked well.

after dist upgrade, I removed /usr/local/bin/awesome, awesome-client and
awsetbg, also removed /usr/local/share/awesome

I removed my .xinitrc

on login, I choose awesome as the session type, but it fails to login
and I go back to the gdm login screen.

xsession-errors shows a segfault.

if I login using a plain xterm session and manually start awesome, it
either segfaults immediately or runs until I start an xterm from within
awesome, at which point it segfaults.

my hardware is unchanged since running ubuntu 8.04 w/ awesome 3.1-rc5

I have 4 monitors on 2 dual head nvidia video cards. I have tried re-
enabling xinerama but it makes no difference if that is enabled or not.
I am running 2.6.28-17-generic #58-Ubuntu SMP Tue Dec 1 21:27:25 UTC
2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I want to rebuild awesome from the source package, using this command:

  DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=nostrip noopt fakeroot apt-get -b source awesome

however that fails due to unmet dependencies:

-- package 'xcb-event=0.3.6' not found
-- package 'xcb-keysyms=0.3.4' not found
-- package 'xcb-icccm=0.3.3' not found

perhaps the ubuntu package maintainer had installed something else on
his machine to get this to build?

Since then, there have been a few updates (security / automatic updates)
and although all install successfully, but all fail at the post-install
session with a long list of errors such as the one shown above.

In case you need any other output, I could easily provide it.
Its easily reproduce-able, since it happens every time.

[Bug 456261] Re: NetworkManager won't allow user to edit settings of Mobile Broadband connection

2009-12-27 Thread one.lone.patr...@gmail.com
I believe that I may have come up with a work-around for the
Insufficient Privileges error.

I inadvertently deleted my top panel and had to re-create it. When I
added the Indicator Applet Session, my NetworkManager applet re-
appeared. I was then able to go into the Mobile Broadband tab and edit
my T-Mobile connection without even being presented with the password
dialog.

I have re-booted a couple of times, and the applet is still there and so
is my broadband connection -- in fact, I am using it as I write this.

Perhaps this will help the rest of you, too.

[Bug 452149] Re: Humanity delete icon uses a wrong concept

2009-12-27 Thread Tomek Chrzczonowicz
Do you know that some other themes and software use exactly the same
design (crossed red circle) or something very similar for Cancel?

I understand that the Trash icon might have some ambiguity on whether
the item in question will be recoverable, but the Red Circle icon is
completely counter-intuitive.

I already mistakenly removed one of my tomboy notes because of this,
when I was tired and had recently switched to Ubuntu.

2009-12-27 Thread Vish
Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut
should be a small usability issue, in the default Ubuntu install, that
affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't be
addressed as part of this project.

- Closing papercut task as this seems more of a bug. Further it isnt easily
reproducible.

[Bug 447284] Re: UNR karmic icons need more contrast

2009-12-27 Thread Tomek Chrzczonowicz
It's the same as of humanity-icon- 0.4.1ubuntu5

It's not only the bluetooth icon. It's also hard to judge:

1. The volume level
2. Wi-fi signal
3. IM status (to a lesser extent, but still).

In the case of wi-fi signal and volume levels, it would be easier if
there were no lighter bars that were filled with slightly darker colour.

[Bug 452149] Re: Humanity delete icon uses a wrong concept

2009-12-27 Thread Vish
@Tomek Chrzczonowicz:
As I mentioned earlier, the apps need to use the right icon.

Kindly file a bug in tomboy to use the edit-remove icon instead. Since
the action is an irreversible action it should not use the edit-delete
icon.

I realize it isnt the ideal way, Using the trash icon as of now isnt
right . But the fix needs to be done in the apps first.

We are however open to other suggestions though.
