[Bug 508227] Re: Remove libglade dependency

2010-01-18 Thread Javier Jardón
gnome-media-profiles master doesn't depend on libglade either:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=524364 and the commit
http://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-
media/commit/?id=8be08d426e2f3ddb86cff4015bcae02d1c7ac7b0 , we only
have to wait for 2.29.6 :)

Let's see if we can't get this bug report closed. Damiano, you can use

My\040Disk
Can you try either that or the ntfs-config tool and report back?

[Bug 507968] Re: Ubuntu 9.10 Device Support - Dell Insp7500

2010-01-18 Thread J_CO
Update:
For the touchpad, the
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Config/Input#Input%20Configuration%20with%20HAL page
troubleshooting commands that reload the boot priorities of gdm during start up
seems to activate the touchpad for the next restarts - not after a shutdown.
So... it seems the problem is some setting needed at power up to remind the O/S
about the touchpad.

For the modem, the driver seems loaded and OK. I added a file to the
/root directory to try and get the O/S to recognise the device - still
no luck. Once again... there seems to be some setting needed in /dev,
/etc, or somewhere that's missing.

And... that's the bug in this O/S: there is NO sensible user control of
devices. Just like Microsoft, the O/S is trying to detect (guess) about
answers, then hiding the results and controls that the system manager
should be able to review and control... that's historically stoopid !

 FIXED!

In /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume the swap drive UUID was not correct.
Hibernation will occur correctly, however on resume it will fail nearly
silently and proceed with a normal boot instead. The only indication will
be PM: Resume from disk failed. in dmesg.

To fix, correct the UUID in the config file and rebuild initramfs as
 follows:

 1) Get the UUID for the swap device:
 blkid `swapon -s | awk '/dev/ {print $1}'`

 2) Edit /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume (as root) and replace the
UUID there with the correct one.

If the UUID listed is already correct, add a comment and attach pm-
 suspend.log and dmesg

[Bug 445849] Re: Highpitched Rattling like Sound with 5.1 Surround Configuration on Karmic Koala

2010-01-18 Thread Dominik Schürmann
I have done the following things but all of them doesn't resolve the problem
fully:
- options snd-hda-intel power_save=10 power_save_controller=N is commented out
in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-conf
- pulseaudio-dev PPA didn't help so i reverted back to the original pulseaudio
packages with apt pinning
- i installed kernel 2.6.32, that did not help so i reverted back to 2.6.31
- /etc/pulse/daemon.conf : uncommented the line enable-lfe-remixing=yes - now
the subwoofer is working again, but the high noise is not gone

[Bug 499772] Re: mountall: could not connect to Plymouth

2010-01-18 Thread Rajinder Sandhu
Same is the problem with me too... I am using Lucid 2.6.32-7-generic on x86
machine
The screen output is as follows:
mounting none on /dev no such device fail
mountall could not connect to plymouth

it has happened since last update although 2.6.32.10 is installed but that is
also not being displayed in the boot menu options menu so that I can select and
boot from it.
Then other thing I could not open any partition other than Lucid, checked and
found privileges of root and user were lying blank then manually updated
priviges of root and user, now I can see the other partitions and open them.
Thanks

[Bug 499413] Re: Testdrive downloads the iso but does not launch virtualbox

2010-01-18 Thread manzdagratiano
Aha! This is exactly the issue I have had... Virtualbox was not launched
as it is v2.1.4 (Jaunty Jackalope) and the Lucid installer hangs in
QEMU, after complaining that kvm is disabled. I thought then that kvm
was necessary alongside Virtualbox to run, and kvm is disabled on my
laptop (sony vaio vgn-ar520e) through the BIOS; I have no reliable way
of turning it on yet. I guess then I am stuck at the moment! Karmic has
had other issues with my laptop, so I am sticking to Jaunty until I
upgrade to Lucid, and I guess I will have to use Virtualbox directly to
try out Lucid for a test drive until then.

[Bug 509128] Re: Inconsistent output from Bourne Shell type command

2010-01-18 Thread C de-Avillez
Thank you for opening this bug and helping make Ubuntu better.

I am unsure why you selected 'coreutils' as the target package here; I
am tending to assign it to dash, but I want to be sure.

Please:

1. run 'lsb_release -a' ;
2. run 'ls -l /bin/sh'

Please post the output here.

Thank you.

p.s. I can confirm your findings for dash version 0.5.5.1-3ubuntu1 on
Lucid.

[Bug 509182] [NEW] (wishlist) selecting failsafe session becomes default for future logins, but should not

2010-01-18 Thread Marc van Leeuwen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

I've been unable to use Ubuntu normally for months, until I noticed that
I was unintentionally using always using a failsafe session, which I had
selected just once to overcome a problem; it had since become my
default! It shouldn't have, that's not what the failsafe session is for.
Here's the longer story

After upgrading to Ubuntu 9.10, I could not log into an ordinary Gnome
session for some reason that I (still) ignore. I could however login to
gdm using the Gnome failsafe option. That resolved the login problem,
but there were many other problems that became apparent: sound was not
working, I could not open any graphic application from a command line,
except via sudo, lock screen failed, no notification of updates,... All
this turned out to be because after selecting my name at the gdm
chooser, the failsafe session was automatically selected; this happens
in such a discrete manner that I had never noticed.

In fact the default setting is apparently recorded elsewhere than in the
user home directory, because when I reinstalled Ubuntu onto a fresh disk
partition while mounting a /home partition, the problem had disappeared,
but the old (upgraded) Ubuntu still made me login using a failsafe
session.

So please, if selecting a failsafe session in gdm, don't make it the
user default, nobody wants to continue using it indefinitely.

[Bug 410285] Re: Dell Latitude E6500 freezes when put on docking station

2010-01-18 Thread Stephan Trebels
Got a E6500 (8GB) with 9.10 64bit here. Intermittent complete freeze
(especially when any power management happening, I initially thought
this was suspend to something, but it also happens while I'm typing).

Additionally I have intermittent USB host controller process errors
regardless which type of device is attached. Is this also in place for
other people? Messages like the below happen in the log then:

[21670.277650] uhci_hcd :00:1d.0: host controller process error, something
bad happened!
[21670.277679] uhci_hcd :00:1d.0: host controller halted, very bad!
[21670.277732] uhci_hcd :00:1d.0: HC died; cleaning up
[21670.27] usb 6-1: USB disconnect, address 2
[21670.373614] usb 6-2: USB disconnect, address 3

I tried a new BIOS (A18, which helped a bit), I tried various kernels
(-16 and -18 seem to be better than -17), but the intermittent freezes
are extremely annoying...

[Bug 495304] Re: [Lucid] Fails to prompt for password when user list is disabled (non face-browser mode)

2010-01-18 Thread Thomas Schweikle
Having the same here: clicking Other ... to log in with some user name
not displayed in the list, there is no password prompt. Subsequent
programs handling the login are given an empty password. It is possible
to log in, but only with an account not having set a password. --- Sure
you'll have to enable users to login with an empty password first :(

Maybe related: setting password change time to 0 makes gdm prompt for
a new password, after the old one correctly entered. The password is
asked twice. But after having entered the new password the second time,
you'll be prompted again with gdm's login screen. Trying the new
password fails. Trying the old one works. But since you are questioned
to change your password, you'll be trown out again after entering the
new password two times.

Status in The Rhythmbox Music Management Application:
 Unknown

 Committed
Status in “rhythmbox” package in Debian: Unknown

 Bug description:
 Binary package hint: rhythmbox

When I clicked in the notification area icon with right
click and then in the upcoming menu with left click on
'Play', the menu button changes accordingly and the play
button in the rhythmbox main window changes as well. But the
music does not start playing and the music-position-bar does
 not move.

Only if I click on 'Play' twice, the music starts with the
 correct file.
This is reproducible everytime, all music files in current
queue have finished and I use either the play button in the
rhythmbox window or the notification area icon to start
playing again. Also double-clicking on another music file
does show the same non-playing behaviour.

It all seems to be linked to the current queue being
finished. Only then I have so far observed this problem of
 ignoring the play command.

 So steps to reproduce.

 1. Open rhythmbox
 2. Select an album, a music file whatever (choose the last
one, because this only happens if rhythmbox stops playing on
its own [because of end of queue])
 3. If you want it fast, use the search-position-bar to go
near the end of the music file
 4. press Play-Button (in programm or notification-icon) or
double click on another music file or another album or
select another album or music file and press the button
 5. it does not start playing although the buttons say it
 has started

[don't know if this is important, I only tested this with
 ogg-files]

For the sake of disc space use (or at least until we can confirm that
libsdl1.2 /has/ been removed from a respun Lucid daily-live), I think
it's better if we prefer -pulseaudio to -all in the alternate list. In
fact, I don't see a point now to change that since I've changed the
seeds (for ubuntu.lucid, kubuntu.lucid, xubuntu.lucid).

Yes, the DNS server in my DSL modem does not support IPv6 (A requests

I try looking into the debug printouts, but did not learn much. I can post

[Bug 501271] Re: Unmounted USB storage still shown in Computer devices but cannot be accessed

2010-01-18 Thread Sense Hofstede
In October 2009 the merge of the 'Eject' and 'Safely Remove Drive' options was
undone by bug report https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=597864 in
order to accommodate systems with internal USB devices, as described by bug
report http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24343.
Until DeviceKit-disks isn't capable of setting the 'can_detach' property to
False for internal USB devices -- or a viable alternative has been found --
this merge will not be undone by upstream.
