[Bug 566046] Re: the login password is stored in the user's keyring
Obviously we can do an SRU/security update after the fact, but this does, as Marc pointed out, leave a root escalation path for malware or applications with a security hole. Perhaps worse is that it allows the malware call home with the password so that it can be used later to potentially login to the machine remotely, and then have full shell (and root if admin) without having to go through all the hoops of doing it within the malware itself. Since this feature is not widely used, new in Lucid and seemingly not well documented in Ubuntu, wouldn't it be better to disable the feature (ie, use Martin's patch) and then restore the functionality using the upstream patch in an SRU later? This would plug the escalation issue as well as avoid a publicly announced USN. -- the login password is stored in the user's keyring https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/566046 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is a direct subscriber. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 519262] Re: Provide ability to Follow a user
I've got a branch which adds a 'Follow this person' MessageAction (with the actual feature only supported by the twitter service for now), but since that action doesn't make sense on messages from people whom you already follow, I'm planning to try and exclude the menu item in these cases. AIUI it'd be easy to do so by overriding the include() method, but I'm wondering if it wouldn't be prohibitively expensive given that it might have to query twitter to find out whether or not you already follow the message author. This won't be a problem if we already have that information cached somewhere, though. -- Provide ability to Follow a user https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/519262 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 491778] Re: gnome-display-properties fails to add new monitor
OK. I just fired up System/Preferences/Monitors. It correctly displays both monitors and the current configuration (the smaller laptop monitor on top of the larger external one). Unplugged the external monitor's VGA connection. Hit Detect monitors, and only the laptop monitor shows, and apply configures screen size to match. Plugging the VGA back in, the external monitor is automatically detected, and I immediately get an image on the external monitor as it was, i.e. larger screen size, and the laptop only showing part of it. I then removed the external monitor using xrandr --output VGA1 --off. Fired up Sys/Pref/Monitors. Again the external is detected, but I can't enable it, and had to use xrandr --output VGA1 --auto to get it to work again. [Bug 567876] [NEW] xrandr state with two displays fails to resume when waking from suspend
Public bug reported: On latest karmic, I use an external monitor in an extended desktop cnfiguration. This used to work nicely and resume the confguration when waking from suspend. But recently (ie after updates), the two monitors (laptop LCD and external monitor) appear in a strange mirrored state when waking from suspend. xrandr command reports the correct state, even though that is not what is visibly in effect (both the external and the LCD monitors are showing the wrong thing). Running the xrandr command to reconfigure to the correct state has no effect. Instead, I must switch to some other state using xrandr (or the gui for it) and then return to the correct (extended) desktop for it to actually have an effect.
