[Bug 719563] Re: mountall: fatal error: cannot open /dev/mapper/crypthome_unformatted

2012-05-05 Thread Thorsten Kohfeldt
Steve,

I am willing to accept your reasoning.

I just want to mention that in times where other distributions introduce and
advertise systemd,
any transient errors, which IMHO make upstart *look* unreliable in comparison,
should be really easy to analyse/track down at least, i.e clever diagnostics
could be an advantage.

Again, I can only speculate how many guys gave up on using Ubuntu for
reasons like the current problem.

Maybe mentioning something in the manual for fstab is a start:

(Oneiric)
man fstab | grep -B 1 -A 2 UUID | head -5
Instead of giving the device explicitly, one may indicate the
(ext2 or xfs) filesystem that is to
be mounted by its UUID or volume label (cf. e2label(8) or
xfs_admin(8)), writing LABEL=label or
  UUID=uuid, e.g., `LABEL=Boot' or
`UUID=3e6be9de-8139-11d1-9106-a43f08d823a6'. This will make the
system more robust: adding or removing a SCSI disk
changes the disk device name but not the
  filesystem volume label.

This encourages the use of labels and/or UUIDs without the slightest
hint for possible drawbacks.

BTW,
is there an explicit reason why especially cryptsetup needs to intermediately
hide the device which is typically already successfully unencrypted ?
Shouldn't that problem be fixed on a lower level before even the device *node*
is created ?
I.e. is the crypt dm layer disclosing the device data structure to be too
early to the kernel ?
Is udev listening on that device node creation ?
Maybe there could be improved udev rules ?

[Bug 864505] Re: [Oneiric] Cannot setup dual monitor with AMD 5870

2012-05-05 Thread Harry Sufehmi
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 838659 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/838659

I just had this problem, the solution I found is quite simple :

# Open Terminal

# Type :
sudo aticonfig --initial=dual-head

# Reboot

Then the Display Setting should be able to activate the second monitor
properly.

Hope this helps someone.

[Bug 980663] Re: Compiz won't start if unredirect fullscreen windows is enabled

2012-05-05 Thread Danillo
I guess the reason why this option isn't on by default was bug #153204.
However, I have just tried to reproduce it in compiz 0.9.7.8 and unity
5.12.0 with Firefox, Totem, and Vlc and it seems to me that this bug is
gone. So, other than this current bug with unity, i don't think there is
another reason not to make it default anymore.

[Bug 995038] [NEW] Libre Office monopolizes focus in Unity

2012-05-05 Thread Pascalio
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 12.04
Compiz version : 1:0.9.7.6-0ubuntu1

Launch any LibreOffice application. The focus is on it. Then, call nautilus:
the focus isn't on nautilus (no title nor menu bar on the top panel), and the
launcher bar shows the focus arrow on the LibreOffice icon. You may open as
many nautilus windows as you like, as long as you do it by the unity bar, the
focus is lost between nautilus and LibreOffice (no title, window control or
menu bar related to LibreOffice either, when you get to that situation, plus
you cannot display the LibreOffice window again by clicking the icon since the
bar thinks the window is already in focus: so focus seems kind of lost...)
Moreover, it appears that most of the time I close a LibreOffice window, the
window disappears, but the focus arrow stays: no window anymore, no left arrow
next to the icon, but remains the right arrow. However, this doesn't happen
every time...

[Bug 995037] [NEW] ubuntu-bug does not start firefox, so unable to report a bug

However, if I press continue, I would expect Firefox to open launchpad,

However, nothing happens. So, therefore this bug report.

At the moment, if I chose Unity3D, it will just display on 1 screen, if
I choose Unity2D it will mirror 1 screen to all screens, so I have to
resort to gnome-classic to get all 4 screens to work with the above
xorg.conf.

I have this problem too.

I have tried selecting ubuntu2d to no avail either, it freezes.

I have tried to not log in to X with lightdm, but instead just do a
alt+f1 and go straight to console and I get a total freeze even.

Tried to connect from the outsite but the ip of the machine in question
was not responding. So it is a total freeze.

After installing, some reboots, installing propietary nvidia driver
295.40, which worked fine for me and working with the desktop for a
while I got my first freeze, since then, I have tried uninstalling the
nvidia propietary driver but I still get freezes, quicker freezes even.

My freezes are fast but I managed to collect some preliminary data.

Dmesg.txt includes dmesg complete output + lspci + lsusb output.

[Bug 987364] Re: Broadcom 43225 wireless not working on lubuntu 12.04

2012-05-05 Thread Shriramana Sharma
I'm sorry I should have explained that. See bug #994664, but curiously
on my father's system with BCM4312, the output of rfkill list all is
like the output reported here and not the one reported there. But then
again, bug #990222 shows this bug with BCM4313 too, so this is really a
generic Broadcom-related bug. I'm marking that as a dup of this one too.

[Bug 986843] Re: Onboard randomly sets as default in lock screen

2012-05-05 Thread marmuta
Ok thanks. The code seems ok, or at least I didn't immediately spot
something suspicious. Perhaps keep an eye on this issue and if it
happens again, maybe we can reconstruct what happened. The fix for bug
#938302 will probably hide this one, though.

[Bug 995040] [NEW] Error: HUD service not connected when opening HUD

2012-05-05 Thread nLinked
Public bug reported:

I get this error in the typing box when I press Alt to open the HUD:

Error: HUD service not connected

Typing anything returns no results for any app. I upgraded from Ubuntu
11.10 32-bit to 12.04. I use Ubuntu Unity 2D. Everything is updated.

In Unity 3D, the HUD does say Type your command, but typing anything
still returns nothing when it should, and a little circle spins on the
left of the text as if it was trying to look for something.

[Bug 993773] Re: Error in RTShaderSystem

2012-05-05 Thread Manuel A. Fernandez Montecelo
Hi,

CG is disabled in the OGRE package of Debian (and consequently in
Ubuntu, since they take my package directly) to avoid the complications
and packaging burdens of nvidia CG libraries being non-free.

I also seems that the Debian package nvidia-cg-toolkit is badly outdated
and nobody takes care of it, so even if desired, activating it would
take some effort and would need to resurrect the nvidia-cg-toolkit
package to be useful.

So, in summary, I have no intention to enable support for it in the
Debian package. Maybe somebody will be interested in modifying the
package to include CG support it in Ubuntu, I don't know.

It's easy to take the deb-src package and recompile it in your system,
if you're interested in CG support. If you have the CG libraries
installed and recompile, probably they're even auto-detected and OGRE
builds support for it automatically.

Cheers.

[Bug 964158] Re: xbubuntu beta: suspend+hibernate not working

2012-05-05 Thread George Hein
tried also with G-Ubuntu-Precise and LinuxMint-12 using Lenovo-Y530
(Intel)- same problem: suspend and hibernate do not shutdown - however,
suprised that a reboot returned with DebanMint on sda1 although I am
sure I booted xubuntu Nappy on sda2.

I never tried LinuxMint before. looks like problem is in kernel.

Previously with early testing of Nappy and Oneric the same problems
occurred but were resolved a week or so prior to release.

Wine in precise is 64-bit by default. That was my problem with dotnet20
and vcrun2010. Both installers detected 64-bit windows and refused to
continue. That means that winetricks is broken since it tries to install
32-bit libraries.

[Bug 995046] [NEW] Cannot add parent directory of disabled synced folders

2012-05-05 Thread Bálint Magyar

** Description changed:

System Settings - Keyboard produces a non-resizeable window, which

It is certainly consistent with coming from System Settings that the

changes the window size. But not letting me change the window size,
too, is quite annoying. (Not you, O gentle reader of this bug, but the

[Bug 973163] Re: Xorg doesn't detect correct resolution of VGA Panasonic TV

2012-05-05 Thread Stefano
I was able to fix the problem with a workaround:

- I know from the TV specifications (and from Lucid settings) that the maximum
resolution of one of my Panasonic TV is 1360x756
- I search for the 1360x768 modeline:
cvt 1360 768
- I obtain a modeline, wich I add to the TV (VGA1) with xrandr:
xrandr --newmode 1360x768_60.00 84.75 1360 1432 1568 1776 768 771 781
798 -hsync +vsync
xrandr --addmode VGA1 1360x768_60.00

Then, I write a script where I add the modeline, switch off everything,
than switch on both the TV and the notebook screen (LVDS1). In my case I
place the TV on top, because my Intel graphic board doesn't allow a
horizontal resolution larger than 4096.

Here's teh script:

#1/bin/bash
xrandr --newmode 1360x768_60.00 84.75 1360 1432 1568 1776 768 771 781
798 -hsync +vsync
xrandr --addmode VGA1 1360x768_60.00
xrandr --output VGA1 --off
xrandr --output LVDS1 --off
xrandr --output VGA1 --mode 1360x768_60.00 --pos 0x0 --output LVDS1 --mode
1024x600 --pos 0x768

When I launch this script I have a correct resolution on both my screens.
Obvioulsy, I make a different script for the other Panasonic TV too (which has
a different maximum resolution).

Tested only with an Intel graphic card.
With Nvidia Nuveau I didn't try (I'm still using the proprietary driver and it
seems to work, with some workaraounds too).

So since this has been confirmed and seems to be solved using the latest

How long does it usually take for the fix to be incorporated into the Ubuntu

[Bug 936257] Re: the system settings grid shouldn't use a fixed geometry

2012-05-05 Thread TomasHnyk
On second thought, the duplicates are several separate issue:

1) bug 886812 is a genuine duplicate of larger font breaks GCC

2) bug 929585 is about different languages/fonts break GCC

3) bug 908650 is actually about resizing the window but is a bit
confused overall

4) bug 962593 and bug 994093 complain about GCC not accomodating a
different set of icons(=applications)

5) bug 993791 is specifically about the keyboard view and so is not
likely a duplicate at all

I deduplicated 5). 3) is confused so I will disregard it. 1) and 2) are
probably the same issue, but I am not sure whether 4) is as well? If
somebody more knowledgable know better, she should deduplicate 4) and
open a new upstream bug.

OK, so sorry for spamming the comments here, but this seems to be
happening more and more often, and it's so annoying. I've removed the
startup script from my lightdm config in case it was xbacklight screwing
up the graphics when I tried to change the backlight level - It happened
twice this moring, once after the other. I think this is a Plymouth bug
as Plymouth starts garbled too.

[Bug 949134] Re: Window resizing leads to freeze on RDP sessions in precise

2012-05-05 Thread DiegoRivera
This also seems to happen when using VNC as well, so it seems to either
be common to VNC and RDP, or protocol-agnostic. The solution is,
however, to kill the remmina process - this seems to clear things up.

I've run into this type of bug before with Eclipse, where on a right-
click the UI would freeze completely. That's how I learned that killing
the culprit is the solution. The problem is that the culprit is
sometimes not obvious - especially when you have multiple processes.

[Bug 995050] [NEW] .odb files associated with file-roller instead of LO Base

Public bug reported:

When clicking to open .odb files, say in the Dash or from Nautilus, they
are opened in file-roller, which then complains it doesn't know how to
open them anyway. They should of course open in Base. This forces me to

[Bug 995052] [NEW] Suspend does not work

2012-05-05 Thread Anton Kanishchev
Public bug reported:

Suspend does not work.

1- I click supend, it attempts to suspend and shuts off with the power
button blinking-as it does normally when it suspended in windows.

2-however when it comes out of suspend it simply reboots- as in displays
the vaio logo then goes to bootloader and then boots from hd-hd activity
light on for 10-15 seconds and it eventually boots to login screen.

Any help in getting suspend to work will be much appreciated

Thanks in advance

[Bug 995041] Re: package libjack-jackd2-0 (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: cannot access archive: No such file or directory

2012-05-05 Thread Ubuntu Foundation's Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:

sudo apt-get clean

Then try performing the update again. This will likely resolve your
issue, but the failure could be caused by filesystem or memory
corruption. So please also run a fsck on your filesystem(s) and a
memory test. Thanks in advance!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]
