Thanks for reporting this bug, and helping make Ubuntu better. You shouldn't have to add the Include /etc/phpmyadmin/apache.conf line to /etc/apache2/apache2.conf because that file is symlinked to /etc/apache2/conf.d, and apache2 is restarted as part of the phpmyadmin package install. [Bug 693906] Re: The language used in the OpenSSH Server documentation page is misleading or incorrect.
I agree with Colin, I think the terms fit with the rest of the documentation. I don't think separating the OpenSSH section into client and host/server would make much sense considering the length and depth of the section. The Server Guide to this point has been written with people new to Ubuntu in mind to help them get up and running with Ubuntu Server as quickly as possible. Therefore subjects tend to not go into great detail especially for topics that have much more in depth documentation elsewhere on the net. Marking as Won't Fix. Re: [Bug 463684] Re: openldap sections in ubuntu server guide not updated for packages in karmic
Can you try purging slapd using apt-get purge slapd ? The issue is that using reconfigure will, I believe, leave modules loaded in slapd. Thus when you follow the instructions in the Server Guide you will need to account for loaded modules, and modify the instructions appropriately. There will be errors in /var/log/syslog pointing you in the right directions. Please note I didn't say that not all errors were fixed, I said the pdf is fixed but the SAME INFO in the html variant of the same manual is still the outdated version, that isn't correct any more. I fear that most people use the html, not the pdf, so they get the wrong info and can't get samba running. The core issue is the dysfunction of the Ubuntu Doc team. I don't meant to say this in a negative way, all members of the team are purely voluntary and don't always have the time to update all aspects of the h.u.c site, or to update currently released version of the docs. Basically the HTML version will be updated when the ubuntu-docs package is updated... I will also try to update the HTML server guide as soon as possible. [Bug 585208] Re: slapd becomes non-responsive after several weeks runtime
I did look through the attached files, but like you said it doesn't seem to tell you much. I suggested running slapd in debug mode knowing that most of the output won't be needed, but when slapd stops responding there should be clear errors in the output... or at least something to point in the right direction. I realize that running slapd like that isn't the most clean think to do, but I don't have a better idea. Setting the status to incomplete doesn't close the bug, it simply means that to move forward more information from the poster is required. We truly wish to help you solve this bug, so if it takes a few weeks, months, etc that isn't a problem. Thanks for reporting this bug, and helping make Ubuntu better. Just to double check... there is nothing in /var/log/syslog when slapd stops responding? [Bug 582812] Re: ldapsearch -y option does not work
Thank you for reporting this bug and making Ubuntu better. Did you create the /etc/ldap.secrets file using a text editor such as Vim or nano? If so the editor probably added a CR or LF to the end of the line. If there is such characters the ldap utilities won't recognize the string as a legit password. Can you try creating /etc/ldap.secrets using: sudo sh -c echo -n 'secret' /etc/ldap.secrets Replacing 'secret' with your correct password. Then retry your ldapsearch commands. I guess we either manually change the links, or change the distro-rev in the libs/global.ent file.
