[Bug 354927] Re: kdelibs-bin says it has a dependency which is only available in backports
Sorry, What missing information exactly is wanted? (There's quite a few previous comments from different people!) Sources.list is attached. apt-cache policy gives: Installed: 4:4.2.90-0ubuntu1~jaunty1~ppa1 but then, that's almost certainly a different version than what I had when I filed the bug. If there's anything else I can provide to help, please let me know. ** Attachment added: sources.list http://launchpadlibrarian.net/27768505/sources.list -- kdelibs-bin says it has a dependency which is only available in backports https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/354927 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 354927] Re: kdelibs-bin says it has a dependency which is only available in backports
Ah ok. Unfortunately I can't really confirm any more as I ended up fixing it somehow (I think by excessive use of dpkg --force-all combined with dist-upgrade from memory). By the time that confirm request was made, my system had been working for a while, so I couldn't really check and wasn't really sure exactly what fixed it. Anyway, I think we can probably just leave this one as invalid as I don't think I can provide any information of use at this stage. If there's anything I can confirm with a system that already seems to be working fine, let me know and I'm happy to find out what I can. [Bug 354927] Re: kdelibs-bin says it has a dependency which is only available in backports
_I_ think the issues is actually caused by kubuntu-members-kde4, which includes amarok 2 as well as KDE 4.2, so amarok probably pulls in KDE. Now, if amarok is installed and an upgrade doesn't get issued with apt-get dist-upgrade which would resolve the KDE stack over any other, since the former is in most cases the bigger stack (unless you got like 300 plasmoids installed)... anyway, simply put: half the stack is 4.2 and the other is 4.1, reactivating kubuntu-memers-kde4 and issuing dist-upgrade should resolve the problem. So should using -backports, which is prefereable because it is supporting more upgrade paths than the -kde4 versions. Please confirm. ** Changed in: kde4libs (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- kdelibs-bin says it has a dependency which is only available in backports https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/354927 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

It apparently depends on a version of kdelibs5-data which isn't available via even with the backports repository enabled (do you have to specify the backport version?). Manual installation via r...@amaterasu:/etc/apt# dpkg -i /home/user/Desktop/kdelibs5-data_4.2.0-0ubuntu2~intrepid2_all.deb fixed many of the 'Depends' errors. [Bug 354927] Re: kdelibs-bin says it has a dependency which is only available in backports
OK, I think I've got it fixed. apt-get is at least downloading and apparently reinstalling kubuntu-desktop anyway! In summary the two packages I needed from backports to fix this were: kdebase-workspace-data_4.2.0-0ubuntu7~intrepid1_all.deb kdelibs5-data_4.2.0-0ubuntu2~intrepid2_all.deb I manually installed them via dpkg -i, as apt-get didn't seem to want to despite my uncommenting the backports repository in my sources.list. The bottom line seems to be that kubuntu-desktop packages in the main repository should depend only on packages in the main repository so users don't have to use packages from the backports repo. [Bug 354927] Re: kdelibs-bin says it has a dependency which is only available in backports
I'd be prepared to bet that the packages with unmet dependencies are all donwstream from the strigi packages required that are all just sitting in Intrepid-backports ie: libstrigihtmlgui0 (version 0.6.3) libstrigiqtdbusclient0 (version 0.6.3) libsearchclient0 (version 0.6.3) libstreamanalyzer0 (version 0.6.3) libstreams0 (version 0.6.3) Have you tried downloading these from intrepid backports at http://packages.ubuntu.com? That's what worked for me without actually activating backports. I'm no expert here, but it looks to me like it's just an issue of either that these packages should be moved out of backports, or that the current KDE packages should have their dependencies lowered to the 0.5.3 versions outside of backports. -- kdelibs-bin says it has a dependency which is only available in backports https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/354927 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
