work. There seems to be a bunch of bugs related to the ICH7 rev 2, this
might be a duplicate of one of the other filed bugs??

[Bug 107188] Re: [kde] Upgrade tool crashed (edgy - feisty)

2007-04-19 Thread Stephan
Exact same situation here.
- up-to-the-minute update within edgy
- use update-manager to upgrade to feisty
- no other processes
- 1G of RAM
- Cannot allocate memory

NB.: I'm using Kubuntu.

(Then a window asks me to enter this as a bug to launchpad, which of course
doesn't work, because upgrade just shut down the internet connection ;-).

Should I upload my log files, too?

Also #107727 looks like the same problem?

[Bug 63789] Re: FEATURE REQUEST: include linux-phc patch in kernel

2007-04-19 Thread Philipp Dreimann
its confirmed by ben but should IMHO not be treated as already fixed!

** Description changed:

For many users with Pentium M processors this patch is really nice.

  Webpage: https://www.dedigentoo.org/trac/linux-phc/

  Another idea might be a seperate kernel package for Pentium M users;
with all optimations possible for them.

It's not easy to compile an own kernel for many users because e.g. the
restricted modules packages don't work with an own kernel... maybe that
  should be made more easy..

does launch properly, but the display is extremely slow and it ends up
freezing after a while.

Sorry, but this comment from me is wrong. I should have said that it
works with Edgy x64 but it ends up freezing. Feisty x86 does not work,
which makes more sense I guess.

[Bug 26075] Re: HP Pavilion dv1000 laptop wireless button will not enable and disable wireless

2007-04-19 Thread ALEXANDRiANi
same problem solved...HiPHoP...HURRAAAY

Solution: By : Celso Pinto said on 2006-04-09: (permalink)
The led on dv1000 is disabled by default. You can enable wlan leds with the
following command as root:

% echo 1 /sys/bus/pci/drivers/ipw2200/\:02\:06.0/led

This applies for dv1245ea which is of the dv1000 family. The led not
being enable has no interference with radio kill switch operations.
Since Flight6 ships with network-manager, it's easy to discover if the
switch is on or off: if you see a network you have it on, otherwise it's
off.

By default, the kill switch is off so after boot you have the ability to
join any network you wish.

[Bug 107758] max_cstate and laptop very slow

2007-04-19 Thread jf001
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.20-15-generic

I'm using a sony VAIO VGN-FS315H laptop with Ubuntu feisty.

With the default config, my laptop is very very slow, and my CPU is
always 100% used.

If I load the processor kernel module with option max_cstate=1, my laptop is
faster and my CPU dynamics ajust its frequency.
But with this option my battery has a very low life, and I can stay disconnect
from sector only for 30 minutes.

I had this problem since Ubuntu Edgy. I'm using a generic kernel image.

Thanks.

[Bug 99899] Re: Cannot enable nvidia driver in Feisty beta

2007-04-19 Thread Martin G Miller
The bug I reported was only occurring while running the Feisty beta live CD
from March 30, 2007. I have since installed from that beta to a spare hard
drive and the restricted drivers manager worked as expected and I was able to
install the nvidia driver without problems. The hardware detection, however
continues to say only generic video card. The same behavior existed in Edgy,
which also reports only a generic video card.
What can I send you to help with the hardware detection of the video card so it
doesn't report generic?

AMD64 3500, 2GB RAM, Radeon X800 PCIE, ASUS A8V (I think).

No matter what I hit in the main Ubuntu boot screen, it shows that it
loads the kernel, then suddenly my screen goes blank and DVD drive spins

2007-04-19 Thread Brian Murray
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu

have enough information.
Please include the following additional information, if you have not already
done so (please pay attention to lspci's additional options), as required by
the Ubuntu Kernel Team:
1. Please include the output of the command 'uname -a' in your next response.
It should be one, long line of text which includes the exact kernel version
you're running, as well as the CPU architecture.
2. Please run the command 'dmesg dmesg.log' and attach the resulting file
'dmesg.log' to this bug report.
3. Please run the command 'sudo lspci -vvnn lspci-vvnn.log' and attach the
resulting file 'lspci-vvnn.log' to this bug report.
For your reference, the full description of procedures for kernel-related bug
reports is available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies . Thanks

I don't know if anyone has noticed, and I hate to be someone repeating a
bug-report (But I can't see this). On Fiesty, after having upgraded to
kernel 2.6.20-15 (from 2.6.20-14), I have noticed my Boot time has
NEARLY doubled, although WINE 0.9.35 seems to have an incredible
performance boost.

Machine Specs:
Athlon 64 3500+
Gigabyte M55SLI-S4
ASUS GeForce FX ES7300LE (Using TV-OUT instead of a regular monitor...maybe
this is the problem? although it works well)
Seagate 160gb SATA300 HDD
1x1GB - Kingston DDR4200 RAM
(Perhaps there might be an issue with another component?)

[Bug 107762] Grey screen when enabling desktop effects on Desktop CD

2007-04-19 Thread David Larso
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: desktop-effects

I'm running Feisty off the Desktop CD, SystemPreferencesDesktop
effects, then i click enable. The screen then goes a light grey and all
I can see is the cursor. If I click again where the Enable desktop
effects button was, I return to normal. Apparently I need a proprietary
driver ATI accelerated graphics driver, but I am unable to download
it. Maybe it's because Canonical's server are getting slammed at the
moment with the 7.04 release?

[Bug 66254] Re: empty CD not correctly recognized by hal

2007-04-19 Thread Thorsten Schoel
Yes, cdrecord does work properly (it says something like drive reports wrong
startsec of -150 for track 1. assuming startsec 0 though). neither
nautilus-cd-burner nor brasero work though. Last time it worked was on dapper.
btw i tries writing an fdi script to change the values in hal. This made the
popup asking what to do next (ignore, burn data cd, burn music cd) appear again
(which it didn't) but didn't fix the problem of nautilus-cd-burner asking for
an empty disc once i hit the burn button.

Re: [Bug 105316] Re: Failure to boot

2007-04-19 Thread Darren
Hi since I sent in that bug I did a reinstall again.
Was having an iffy time rebooting got another error report at boot up I
tried
to report it on launchpad but gave up after half an hour of trying.
After the last set of updates my computer boots up most of the time but it's
learned some new tricks.
If I turn it on and leave it alone it will boot up most times some times on
boot up it will reboot itself before finishing the boot, if I let it alone
it will reboot
all by itself after it's up and running,or after boot up if I'm working on
it, it will freeze up.
I ran the 'uname -a' and got this.
Linux desktop 2.6.20-15-generic #2 smp sun apr 15 07:36:31 utc 2007 i 686
gnu/linux
I then tried to run the 'dmesg dmesg.log' got nothing just my command
line.
I then tried to run the 'sudo 1spci -vvnn 1spci-vvnn.log'got bad command
line.
Sorry that's all I got wish that I could be of more help.
Keep up the great work.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description doesn't yet
have enough information.
Please include the following additional information, if you have not already
done so (please pay attention to lspci's additional options), as required by
the Ubuntu Kernel Team:
1. Please include the output of the command 'uname -a' in your next
response. It should be one, long line of text which includes the exact
kernel version you're running, as well as the CPU architecture.
For your reference, the full description of procedures for kernel-related
bug reports is available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies .
Thanks in advance!

[Bug 107766] system-config-printer adds menu item the same as gnome-cups-manager's menu item

2007-04-19 Thread Alex Smith
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: system-config-printer

The system-config-printer tool (installable from Add/Remove Programs)
installs a menu item in System - Administration with the same title as
the menu item provided by gnome-cups-manager. This is confusing, since
you can't see which one is which.

[Bug 107764] The button that turns the touchpad on/off stopped work

2007-04-19 Thread Sinkaiya
Public bug reported:

I have Asus A6L (A6B00L) laptop, it has a special hardware button to
turn the touchpad (synaptic) on or off. In previous versions of Ubuntu
(6.10 and 7.04 Alpha Herd 5) To make it work, I added to the touchpad
section of xorg.conf this line:

Option SHMConfig true

But in the release of 7.04 I haven't found even a line about the
touchpad in xorg.conf! :( So I added this section:

Section InputDevice
Identifier Synaptics Touchpad
Driver synaptics
Option SendCoreEventstrue
Option Device/dev/psaux
Option Protocol auto-dev
Option HorizScrollDelta 0
Option SHMConfig true
EndSection

and reloaded. But unfortunately it haven't work... :((

[Bug 107740] Re: Hardwate detection Error on g3 PPC loading module aec62xx Ide Driver support

2007-04-19 Thread brunometal
I Used for testing 3 images

the first one:
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/ports/releases/feisty/beta/xubuntu-7.04-beta-desktop-powerpc.iso

than I tried with 6.10 and 6.06

I thought that it could be a problem with my machine, but OsX runs ok,
and gentoo Linux runs and install ok !

But .. I really want to use xubuntu with this machine !!

do you think there's a way to install xUbuntu in there?

thanxs !

[Bug 107768] right Alt key disabled on certain laptops

2007-04-19 Thread kwilliam
Public bug reported:

A line in /etc/X11/xorg.conf seems to be mapping the right Alt key incorrectly
on certain keyboards.
Section InputDevice
Identifier Generic Keyboard
Option XkbOptionslv3:ralt_switch -- This is the bad
line.

With it, the right Alt key will not perform as expected: Alt+Tab,
Ctrl+Alt+Backspace, etc, do not work with this key. Commenting out the
line solves the problem. I don't know what that line is intended to do
- it has something to do with Level 3 but I don't understand that. All
I know is that the key wasn't working.

Laptops known to be affected:
Dell Inspiron 6400
Dell Inspiron 630m
IBM T42p

Sources:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=412157
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=287318page=2

This bug has been around since at least Oct 2006 and affects both Edgy
and Feisty beta, and presumably Feisty since I only installed Feisty
beta about 2 weeks before the release.
