I opened rhythmbox for first time. I played a radio from radio list. I opened visualization and I selected full screen, Rhythmbox crashed. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: mdcfg using kubuntu 7.04 beta alternate CD: I have three pre-existing RAID devices (created during a previous installation with the same CD) each one a RAID 1 array of two disks. When rebooting from CD to do a fresh install, the arrays are recognized during the partitioning task, but when trying to use them, the installation fails with message cannot stat device /dev/md/2 (notice a slash before the digit. The correct name is /dev/md2). How to repeat: 1) Using the alternate CD, create three arrays md1, md2, md3, mounted to /, /home and swap. 2) Finish the installation 3) check that the installation works 4) restart with the same CD in expert mode 5) accept defaults until load installer components from cd 6) load the mdcfg component 7) accept defaults until partition disks 8) within partition disks, choose manual 9) the disks are recognized as K raid. Select configure software RAID 10) when asked if you want to keep the current partition layout and configure RAID, say yes 11) after this, you can create a new RAID device, delete and existing one, or finish. 11a) choosing create a new device you are informed that no free partitions exist, meaning that the existing layout was recognized. You can use a separate console to verify this with mdadm -D /dev/md0 /dev/md1 /dev/md2 11b) choosing finish should then use the existing devices. Public bug reported: I think this is not a bug. I've installed on the same disk, ubuntu 10.04 (the o.s. I use every day) and ubuntu 11.04 (to try it). The last MBR comes from the Ubuntu 11.04. I decided to use the burg manager installing it on the natty narval. Because every time I update the Ubuntu 10.04 it shows the follow message: 1)Could not find /boot/grub/menu.lst file. Would you like /boot/grub/menu.lst generated for you? and I choose the N option to keep my burg manager, I think this is the problem. @felix I have a multimedia keyboard and i use the volume keys. And yes. Now i've tested and the problem is only after i type the multimedia volume key. Do you know What could i do? Ubuntu 11.10 on Dell XPS 15z. Dual Boot with Windows 7 Home, bumblebee stable installed. I have the same problem as Aaron, when i try to shutdown the computer (either from the main menu or from a terminal) i have to force it by pressing the power button. This problem started after the latest update about 4 days ago. Now i'm using the 3.0.0.19 kernel from the official packages. After this update i'm experiencing also other strange problems, and i'm not sure about their relationship with the one here discussed. For example i cannot run succesfully the update-grub command: it does not terminate (it starts but does not terminate, and it is blocked on Found memtest86+ image: /boot/memtest86+.bin). Another problem is that sometimes i cannot kill a command (via CTRL+C keyboard combination), it seems that the OS does not catch the input. I experience this problem when i try to kill update-grub command too. Final I'm not able to succesfully uninstall virtualbox package, it blocks on Stopping virtualbox kernel modules. Hi all, I'm new a newbie in Ubuntu Touch (one month so far with MX4) and I love it so much. However, I've been having problems in using the WiFi, both before and after the release of OTA6. Specifically, I can't connect up to eduroam (and networks like that) using WPA WPA2 Enterprise, PEAP, MSCHAPv2. Once I fill in all the details, the button Connect is greyed out and I can't proceed any further. I've tried to save the network settings in /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/ but nothing happens. Please help me with this as I can't use WiFi at work. Hi, the password is indeed less then 8 characters for me. I tried both
'connect to hidden network' and click in the network indicator and it

Hi, I've got a quick update. I've finally sorted out the connection problem, i.e. I've changed the network password to a minimum of 8 characters. It works OK the first time I connect up, but the second time it keeps asking me the password again and again. So I have to manually delete the connection and the same as above. I don't know whether this is a bug or something I'm missing out. Hope you can help. Hi, thanks. Although I agree I could change the password to make it works for now, there's no point in having a minimum length set to an arbitrary 8 characters. I think you agree that I as a user should have known this in advance. Ultimately, security is up to the user. Thanks for looking at this. everythings is now ok after change back to python 2.7 as default (using udpate-alternatives). *** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1519463 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1519463 I confirm that upgrade process (from 14.04 to 16.04) crashed on my laptop LENOVO G410 like Pilot6 said. I also booted with livecd 16.04, then chrooted to the system. In my case I did also execute fsck /dev/sda1 That was because my first partition ended up with a lot of INODE problems. Finally I was able to reboot Ubuntu 16.04 with GUI. There is more... I ran dpkg --configure -a When I tried to do this apt-get install -f at the first time I was not able to execute, because there was broken packages. Ubuntu offer the option to open with SYNAPTIC, so I did with Synaptic. At the end finally apt-get install -f again _ No part of this problem but at the end of the day I notice 16.04 is to slow to boot. Solved with changing boot mode to "Legacy support", with "UEFI first" option, in BIOS. Since the PC is still booting in UEFI mode with those settings, I really don't know why, just changing settings to act in a slightly different way (with same result), the graphic Grub works... I'm not in charge of the bug, but if your problem is missing passwd information, then the behavior of PAM might be correct. PAM is supposed to handle authentication only, NSS is the responsible part of getting user's info. You might have a closer look to: a) nscd, to cache users' info b) SSSD (System Security Services Daemon), that is included in Ubuntu, to allow NSS information to be propagated and locally cached. I had a similar problem after an release upgrade from 12.04.3 to 14.04.1. After the upgrade, only local users could log in and any command was very slooow. In particular commands like add-user or add-group would never finish. Removing mentions of ldap in nsswitch.conf seemed to solve the problem. It took me 10 hours to figure out what was going on, having to boot repeatedly the machine each time it hanged. The configuration I was using worked perfectly well on 12 LTS and the only change I made to fix the problem after the upgrade is the one I mentioned. The same thing happened on a second machine which was configured similarly. So I concluded that this is a situation that may occurr to others as well and it could save them some time if they knew a solution. I could not find relevant documentation about the parameter passwd_compat except that it appears related to Solaris. I suspect that this is a legacy configuration that has been preserved by our system administrators since the time we were using Sun machines in our network. Possibily this parameter creates some conflicts on release 14 that make it to hang the machine. Someone who knows what passwd_compat does should be able to figure out the cause. To replicate the problem it should be enough to configure nsswitch like this: passwd: compat passwd_compat: ldap After this, try doing add-user and the machine will hang. Thank you. prof. I don't know if this is a problem related to the mix breezy/dapper. It seems I found the problem. when the machine boot, it load the module scsi_transport_spi while aic7xxx require scsi_transport_spi2.
