So this doesn't seem to be a distro issue, but rather a specific version of X or one of it's libraries. -- missing pixels when drawing connecting lines https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/353137 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to libx11 in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 292214] Re: Xinerama broken since intrepid on MGA
Hi there, Matrox g550 works fine here on karmic (9.10) with Xinerama and your binary, Bryce, that I installed manually. I had some timeout issues with keyserver.ubuntu.com. I first had an issue with the second monitor and experienced a horizontal lines prb but I figured, and was right about this, that the frequencies were not right. Indeed I'm using two different monitors and copied the first block for the second one. I then looked on the net for the monitor specs, fixed xorg.conf and now it works. I confirm not to be able to use the System-Pref-Display as it's based on RANDR and get tis ugly error screen. Actually I have a funny 12-monitors setup here with Xinerama on diff Linux distros and Os-es and synergy. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 483464] Re: [PM800]Bad graphics modes.
2009/11/18 Bartosz gan...@poczta.onet.pl Here you have information about grub2: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1195275 First, I've enabled Option ModeSwitchMethod new in xorg.conf - restart and nothings changed. Everything is as it was. As in the instruction above I've edited /etc/default/grub with: GRUB_GFXMODE=1024x768 (also tried 0x117) sudo update-grub (also tried update-grub2) After reboot, grub is still in 640x480. In grub comandline I use vbeinfo and it says that 1024x768 is available (like other modes up to 1920x1440) but it's using 640x480. Like my changes goes to hell. The key to resolve this problem is to figure out what special vga=791 does, and to adopt it to grub2 or figure why X server is trying to use 1920x1440 by default (matrix is only 1024x768). -- [PM800]Bad graphics modes. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/483464 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-openchrome in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 461163] Re: Gnome Freezes -- Ubuntu 9.10 -- big time freezes.
im having this same problem as well. i upgraded to 9.10 from 9.04 roughly 2 days after the release of 9.10 and did so through the update manager. everything worked absolutely fine for about a week and a half, untill 2 days ago, when all of a sudden it just locked up. hard reboot yielded a black screen, not even my bios screen would come up. another hard reboot yielded the bios screen but that froze halfway through loading. 3rd time got to the grub loader, which froze there. 4th time back to absolutely nothing. after doing this process over and over i finally got to the login screen, logged in, then it froze on me. after that, it worked fine for about 12 hours. after that, it would run for about 2.5 hours before locking up. now, if i just let it sit, and done do anything, it works fine. if i try to use the internet or any program, it locks up about 5 minutes after starting. i dont know if this qualifies as the same bug you are all having, since i am able to use the pc for a short period of time, but, this is the only thread that is talking of total lockups, so i figured id post here. my laptop is an acer aspire 5680 with no upgrades. i have no idea what graphics card or chipsets are in it. though, this laptop is almost 4 years old, if that helps anyone. im pretty new to using ubuntu, so i dont know the terminal commands or how to use them yet, so, if anyone has any solutions to this problem, could you please post them in a new-user friendly version? any help at all is much appreciated, my computer is my lifeline, especially since im in college -- Gnome Freezes -- Ubuntu 9.10 -- big time freezes. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/461163 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is a direct subscriber. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 305301] Re: [RC410] Xpress 200M hangs when resuming from suspend with DRI (needs KMS)
gene, not everything is a kernel module if you compile your own kernel. You can compile drivers directly into your new kernel image (vmlinuz). When you run make menuconfig you've got 3 options by side of components (eg. drivers): M means compile as module, * or Y means compile directly into the kernel, nothing or N means do not compile that part (neither as module nor part of the vmlinuz). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 461163] Re: Gnome Freezes -- Ubuntu 9.10 -- big time freezes.
I encountered a similar problem with my Ubuntu computer locking up. I had previously been using Ubuntu 8.10 and I think I had Effects disable, but I had to do a fresh install of 9.10 because I could not get 9.04 to work on my computer. When I upgraded to 9.04 the system would freeze up also including while Update Manager was running which made the system unbootable. In any case, based on the comments posted here, I have removed all packages with compiz in the name. The system now seems to be running fine. I don't think I've ever used the Desktop Effects so I'm not missing anything. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 447892] Re: [i855GM] Freeze shortly after X startup on Intel i855
I've tried both kernels, and it does not seem to have any effect. The machine starts, then X starts into low graphics mode and a window opens, telling me that the Intel driver is complaining about no kernel modesetting support. I have not made further experiments if I can get it to initialise somehow, though I have no idea what to try anyway. And I have also no idea how kernel mode setting is connected to ACPI, although it seems to be the case, apparently. Note: run in low graphics mode for one session does not seem to work as expected, either. If I select it, I get a window stand by one minute while the display restarts..., and then exactly nothing happens, until I actively click that window away. Then X closes, and everything starts on square one, with the same error message I mentioned earlier. -- [i855GM] Freeze shortly after X startup on Intel i855 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/447892 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 484941] [NEW] nvidia-glx-185 graphics corruption whilst using compiz and other gl-based apps
Public bug reported: hardware: XFX gtx260 nvidia-glx-180 used to work just fine under 9.04. Upgrade to 9.10 (and finally, out of sheer frustration, re-install to 9.10) saw the introduction of this bug. An application which makes use of GL under Compiz causes graphics corruption and instability with Compiz. Certain textures (read: most icons as well as some window internals, eg Firefox page display) are replaced with corrupted messes instead of their correct contents. Originally, I figured this was a Compiz issue, but IT'S NOT. Upgrading my nvidia drivers to to version 190.42-0ubuntu1~karmic~nvidiavdpauppa2 by using the ppa at: deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/nvidia-vdpau/ppa/ubuntu karmic main causes the problem to cease. I've been running these drivers for a little under a week and the corruption issue which would show up from a GL-based screensaver within a day of a X restart is no more. So I'm quite confident that the 185 drivers in 9.10 at the moment (185.18.36-0ubuntu9) are the problem.
