Chris;

I just downloaded the latest free version of paint.net and it will not
accept past text. If you use the paste command from the edit menu it
does nothing but if you use Ctl+V you get a message back telling you
there is no image on the clipboard. I tried with Apache OpenOffice and
with text from a .docx file created in Microsoft Office 365. I never
used paint.net before so cannot speak to what may have changed, but it
appears that currently it will only except an image as input.

Eliana,

You need to tell us more about your setup. Do you use Windows, Mac, Linux?
What kind of system is this? and what type of document are you working
on, Text document, spreadsheet, presentation?.

What happens when you type text and read the end of the line, the
document should automatically scroll to a new line.

You should also be able to use cursor up/down keys to navigate up and
down the document, likewise with the page-Up and page-Down keys on
your keyboard.

That's why I asked what kind of system do you have, you might as well
be using an Intel based tablet with Windows (such tablets do exist,
althought not as widespread as iPads or Android tablets).

Once you provide more details, someone will be able to help you.

Assuming you originally created with either OpenOffice.org, or one of
its immediate descendent, then:

* Open Apache Open Office;
* Start a new document;
* Open the PDF with a PDF reader;
* Select the entire text of the PDF;
* Copy it to the clipboard;
* Paste it in your new document;

With most PDF readers, the following usually works for cut and paste:
* CTRL A
* CTRL C
and in AOo
* CTRL V

Then walk through your document, adding the appropriate styles in the
appropriate places.

###

I don't remember if AOo has the ability to include the original ODF
document in the PDFor not. LibreOffice does offer that option.

Is there a special reason why you want to open it with Apache OpenOffice?
You can't just open it with your PDF reader?

If you want to edit it, since you obviously created the file in the first
place, maybe with Apache OpenOffice, I suggest that you open the original
file (ODT or whatever format you usually use), edit it, save it and export
it as a new PDF.

If you didn't keep the original file, remember to do that with documents
you create in the future to avoid this problem. Today's disk drives are so
big that you could store millions of text documents on them, so don't erase
documents just to save space.

And as always, do backups every day. I know, that's another issue, but it
can't be pointed out enough…

Apache OpenOffice does not open PDF files natively. You can add the
extension PDF Import for Apache OpenOffice from
https://extensions.openoffice.org/en/project/pdf-import-apache-openoffice

This extension only works in Draw and the quality depend much of the
complexity and security settings of the PDF file.

If the PDF file is a scanned document there is no success at all.

The Extensions site hosts third-party extensions too: this is actually

work from the OpenOffice project there. Actually this is how the
Extensions concept works for a variety of software applications.

So I find it quite normal to trust an extension found on the

If it is not a false positive (unfortunately, a lot of anti-virus
software makes mistake, and we see it for new releases of OpenOffice
too) then the extension will be blocked. But history and the people
involved would lead me to conclude that this is likely to be a false
positive. Let's see what Ariel (in CC) has to say.

Dennis
There is an OOOTranslit extension, for Serbian to English translations.
Perhaps this is what the OP has in mind.
A little Googling found a downloadable copy of this.

Dan,

There is not enough information to know what your problem is.

There is no OOoTransit extension on the Apache OpenOffice site,
.

What do you mean that access is restricted to that extension and others?

Where are you finding these extensions, or where did you find them in the past?

For email and calendar take a look at KDE PIM for Windows or OSX.

Another is Mozilla Messaging:

 I just installed Open Office 4.1 and cannot play a slide show in Impress.
  All I get is a quick black screen, then a white screen that doesn't
 change. I had the same problem with the last version of Ooo and that's why
 I upgraded.  Any suggestions?

Hi Misty --

I don't what the problem is but it seems there is an issue filed that seems
similar to yours.

 https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=118412

I would suggest using Bugzilla ( apply for Bugzilla account if you don't
already have one -- see New Account link at top right) and adding your
Impress file and details about your system to this so we can investigate
further.
