I get that option to appear so I can download it?

Hello Mary,

Normally the Openffice.org website detects which version of the
program you need.
When you click on Download it should already propose the right version.
Otherwise, if the download doesn't start, you should be proposed to
choose a mirror site
at the bottom of the download page
http://download.openoffice.org/contribute.html?download=bouncerproduct%3DOpenOffice.org%26os%3Dmacosxintel%26lang%3Den-US%26version%3D3.1.1

Or you can choose the right version from a table:
http://download.openoffice.org/other.html#en-US

If all this doesn't work, please come back here with more precise
information about what doesn't work for you.

I am using Vista OS. I am a little confused by your reply as you are
saying you started the install and it appeared to download. This seems
confusing to me.

What you should have done is to download the windows install file from
the www.openoffice.org website. This file is currently called
OOo_3.1.1_Win32Intel_install_en-US.exe for the English version (there is
no separate British English version).

Once this file has been downloaded to your computer you should double
click it (to run the install). It will unpack the downloaded file and
then proceed to install the OpenOffice program once you have answered
some questions.

What has happened differently on your download?

Thanks

Mary

If you look at the openoffice.org main page click on the I want to
download OpenOffice.org and it will present you with a download button
to download windows version 3.1.1.

I have attached a screen copy of this I hope it will get through.

a little more information would help

What operating system are you using? windows XP, Vista, or 7, Apple or
Linux (which one)

Where did you get the copy of openoffice from? did it come on a CD/DVD
from a magazine or did you download it from www.openoffice.org
http://www.openoffice.org/?

When you get the setup file on your computer what did you do to install
it? what error messages did you get?

Then someone may be able to help you

Thanks

Yeah it can (at least with WinRAR and a couple of other third party

you may have gotten a bad download, so I would suggest going to

When you go to www.openoffice.org and do the download, it will get the
version that seems to go with the operating system you are actually
using for the download, unless you specifically choose a different one
by following the link to get other versions. If you got the download
from a different site, or using a different computer than the one you
are trying to install on, you might have gotten a broken or
inappropriate version for Vista. What is the name of the file you
actually downloaded?
