Re: [vchkpw] Re: Qmail, Vpopmail, Sqwebmail, Courier-IMAP and Gentoo
I follow the same procedure to install qmail, and later add qmail-scanner. My vpopmail is V5.2.2 with roaming users. No matter what rules I apply to /etc/tcp.smtp, only incomming email is scanned. You suggest me to drop qmail ebuild and build from scratch using the link you gave. gentoo's qmail is completely and utterly broken. It also contains a patch that allows mail to be delivered to ~root/ which is a major major security problem. -Jeremy _ STOP MORE SPAM with the new MSN 8 and get 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail

Re: [vchkpw] OpenBSD / vpopmail ssl???
You don't find documentation about vpopmail SSL, because there is not the job of vpopmail. You have to use a POP3 wrapper with SSL support (check Jeremy's answer). Another solution is to use a POP3 server which support SSL natively. http://www.inter7.com/index.php?page=courierimap. It work fine with vpopmail for offer POP3/SSL and IMAP/SSL services. David. [vchkpw] Switching from mysql to non-mysql setup.
I run about 10 domains under vpopmail (and qmail, courier-imap, vqadmin, qmailadmin). vpopmail has been compiled with mysql support and as such is storing its data in a mysql data base. Is it doable to convert everything to a system that does not depend on mysql? Will I use functionality? -- Regards, Charles.

If you're going to compile software on that box, you really need to have those tools installed. I fixed this problem by installing newer versions of automake and autoconf. [vchkpw] POP3 Auth Fails
Hi!I recently upgraded from vpopmail 5.3.29 to 5.4.5. After the upgrade, the SMTP auth still works ( using elysium patch ). The imap auth through vchkpw works too ( courrier ). But the POP3 auth fails. I am using virtual domains and Mysql backend. Do you know what may be causing it?Another question: Before the upgrade I used the smtp auth running vchkpw though /var/qmail/supervise/qmail-smtp/run with qmail users and groups, but setting 4755 to /var/vpopmail/bin/vchkpw. After the upgrade, this stopped working, and I had to set the vpopmail users. Does something changed on vchkpw that do not permit using suid anymore? Thanks

RE: [vchkpw] SATA NAS for vpop cluster
Sorry for the delay on this.. We've got two F740. They're setup in an active-passive scenario with a VIP (virtual ip). What they call snap mirrors are made every minute. So basically the slave filer mirrors the master filer every minute. The chance of a filer head blowing out is really slim to none, so you could start with one filer. We currently handle about 800+ domains at the moment, some of which have 400-500 accounts. We have it hooked into a Cisco 3550 switch. Sorry for the delay, got busy :). -Clayton -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, June 29, 2004 3:53 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [vchkpw] SATA NAS for vpop cluster I am looking around for a suitable (ie, reasonably priced and performance) NAS unit in order to convert a bunch of standalone servers into a cluster. How has it been working for you ? Any performance issues during busy times etc ? Thanks a lot. Lu From: Clayton Weise [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] We use netapps (www.netapp.com) and it works great. One of the big things that made me move towards the netapp in place of many of the other NAS units out there was the fact that it runs a nix based OS. Most of the ones, say.. Dell for example just run a stripped down version of windows with file sharing for unix. It doesn't give you the ability to make any tweaks to the nfs server. We've been using the netapps for about 6 months now and it's been awesome. A client that hosts in our datacenter turned us on to the netapps nas units. He's been using them for I think about 2 years now and swears by them. That's great to hear. Can you let me know the specific model you are using ? How many domains are you currently handling with the above unit ? Also, do you have any redundancy capability in case that box goes down ? Thanks again Clayton Lu

[vchkpw] Failing logins - mysql issue?
Hi, I read with some interest the thread about 5.4.5 that mentions this particular error: Jul 1 19:11:41 blah pop3d: vmysql: sql error[1]: Can't create database 'vpopmail'. Database exists Today we've been getting a ton of complaints about users needing to enter their passwords multiple times. This is pop, imap, and smtp-auth. Additionally it looks like the chkusr patch is having issues as well; I've seen a few bounces (my C-coding buddy is hopefully going to get that patch to act a bit more nicely if it can't hit mysql). This is vpopmail 5.3.30, mysql 4.0.17 on FreeBSD 4.8. Seeing as I'm getting failures across the board, I have to assume there's some issue with accessing mysql. The box is working hard, but not struggling. I've seen the above errors when the load is as low as .40. MySQL is set to a max-connections of 2000. MySQL does not log anything interesting when I enable logging except for the expected Aborted connection messages from the vpopmail stuff not calling mysql_close(). I'm stumped here. MySQL seems to be fine, the load isn't insane, the vpopmail user has no cpu/file limits, nor does MySQL's user, yet all vpopmail stuff that hits the db fails periodically. Any ideas what to look at? I know I should get on 5.4.x, but I have to test that elsewhere for any surprises first.
RE: [vchkpw] oracle database backend
Jeremy, We are doing a proof of concept on Oracle right now. I can send along my notes as we move forward if you'd like. To be honest though I think we will end up standardizing on LDAP for read type calls and mySQL for writes/updates purely for price vs. performance reasons. The idea being that LDAP is (based on implementation of course) much faster for reads then writes and much, much cheaper then Oracle. Keep in mind I'm not dismissing Oracle by any means, it's just a much harder sell. BTW, how's Cathy doing? Re: [vchkpw] Failing logins - mysql issue?
Just to add a bit, it certainly looks mysql related. But one thing that's really got me stumped is that my db is showing almost as many update and replace queries as select queries, which seems kind of odd. I'm not creating new users, and the mysql logging is disabled. As far as I can recall, vpopmail is just doing select's right?
