Hello this morning I went to send an email and I could even though I was able to get them. So I logged into the server and I notice that all the files in the bin dir were gone. I rebuild it quickly but I also notice that some file under varios domains were gone (.qmail-files etc) has anyone seen this happeing before? Thanks, Remo !DSPAM:4857e2b932351086743671!

Sounds like some sort of file system corruption possibly caused by failing disks or it could even be due to malicious activity, ie: system has been exploited. I have never seen a system losing files for no reason. Shane !DSPAM:4857e38f32355308092989!

Re: [vchkpw] Strange problem with SMTP AUTH
Hi Tom! Can anybody tell me what is happening here? Is it a problem with permissions? If yes, permissions of what file? Make sure your SMTP server is running as the vpopmail user. This seemed to be the problem although I actually don't know how that happened because it worked for quite some time. Anyway, at least it's working again now. [vchkpw] Strange problem with SMTP AUTH
Hi! I have a really strange problem with vpopmail and smtp. I'm using qmail and vpopmail together and for pop3 and imap4 it works perfectly. However, with SMTP AUTH it did work well for some time but doesn't do so any more. As I didn't realize the problem at once, I actually can't say what exactly has changed on the system since it worked last. I'm running Gentoo Linux and there was at least one emerge -u world since it worked. I'm using Qmail+vpopmail+MySQL. So here's what happens: My client gives me an error but there's no error message from the server. If I look into the log files I find two interesting lines. Jul 14 12:23:27 myserver vpopmail[13453]: vchkpw-smtp: vpopmail user not found [EMAIL PROTECTED]:134.123.123.123 Jul 14 12:23:27 myserver vpopmail[13453]: vchkpw: can't write MySQL logs I've found out that if I change the permissions of /etc/vpopmail.conf to world-readability, I don't get the second line and the message is also written to my vlog-table. I guess it's only a subsequent error which I wouldn't get if the first one wasn't there. The first error message I don't understand at all because the user is valid. The same user can fetch mail without any problems. Can anybody tell me what is happening here? Is it a problem with permissions? If yes, permissions of what file? Make sure your SMTP server is running as the vpopmail user. Make sure qmail-smtpd has the correct SMTP AUTH patch to match your vpopmail installation. At some point leading up to the 5.4 release, we fixed a bug in vchkpw related to CRAM-MD5 SMTP AUTH. But, you need to use the correct (bug-fixed) SMTP AUTH patch to qmail-smtpd to go with it. -- Tom Collins - [EMAIL PROTECTED] QmailAdmin: http://qmailadmin.sf.net/ Vpopmail: http://vpopmail.sf.net/ Info on the Sniffter hand-held Network Tester: http://sniffter.com/
[vchkpw] strange problem with pop3d
Hi folks, I've a strange problem. Situation: I've a vchkpw-noroaming for my pop3, and vchkpw for my pop3s (qmail-pop3d with ssl: I use pop3-b4-smtp). Well, all works fine, but for one account (always the same account) I see: vchkpw-pop3: vpopmail user not found account-bugged@:192.168.17.15 normally I see: vchkpw-pop3: (PLAIN) login success account-ok@nesys.it:192.168.17.22 If for that account I use pop3-ssl, all works fine: vchkpw-pop3s: (PLAIN) login success account-bugged@nesys.it:192.168.17.15 what I've to do to solve that problem? Is a client problem? thanks for your support Regards Andrea
[vchkpw] Strange Problem
Hello List, I updated my Mailsystem to vpopmail 5.3.27 and now quit a few of my customers are having the problem that Outlook Express or The Bat are every now and then asking for login and password of the Mailaccount in a Popup Window. Has anybody experienced such a problem? Everything works fine except of this strange behavior. I did some testing and I found out that sometimes it triggers on every new connection to the Internet, sometimes it comes up everytime and sometimes it happens just accidentally. I use the following setup: qmail 1.03 (patched with Bill Shupps toaster Patch and the chkusr Patch) vpopmail 5.3.27 qmailscanner 1.20rc3 courier-imap 2.1.1 Thank you very much for help Hans-Juergen
RE: [vchkpw] Strange problem?
After making those changes, and additionally adding /var/qmail/users and /var/qmail/control to group writeable, group vchkpw, I now get domain does not exist errors. Strace indicates that it wrote all of the files, however one problem is that it resets the mode to 644 in each place. The other problem is that it now returns with a "Domain does not exist" error instead of simply segfaulting. I can provide the complete strace if anyone is interested. [vchkpw] Strange problem?
Hi, there. I'm using qmail, vpopmail, courier-imap, mysql to building email system. All of them are stable release version. Now I got some problem: 1, qmail, vpopmail, courier-imap (qmail-pop3d), mysql, all of them work fine. 2, I can send email to my virtual domain's user. and check the email from imap and pop3 client. 3, I'm using Outlook Express as my email client (for both pop3 and imap) 4, My problem is: By using Outlook Express IMAP client, I can NOT create, delete, subscribe or list any folders except INBOX. I do have Root Folder Path set as INBOX.. I tried to use telnet to connect to 143 port, and run IMAP command directly, no problem. Just can not do these operations in Outlook Express. Since I don't have other email client, I was not able to test it with other email client. 5, I used to setup email system by qmail, courier-imap with system passwd authorization without problem. So I'm think if it's vpopmail problem. Another question is: Do I had to run vadddomain command as root? I tried to run it as vpopmail, looks like subfolder for domain been created, database tables been created, but still report error. and vdominfo told me no domain exists. So where does vpopmail store these virtual domain infomation except in mysql database? Any comments, tips will be appreciate. Thanks Noodle
