Re: [libreoffice-website] Funding banner, amount and proposal
The script converts the current amount into a percentage, and then converts the percentage into pixels (for use in the width of the bar.) Currently 100% is 50'000 EURO and 100% is also 330px. The script also prevents the percentage from being higher than 100%. The way we should logically allow the script to show higher values is to set the script's target higher (once 100% is reached) and also hard-code the text percentage on the banner, or have two percentages (one out of 50'000, which can go over 100%, and another out of the new goal, which cannot go over 100%.) The second would be used for the progress bar (since it needs a limit on it's highest value) and the first (unlimited) would be used for text. The script also prevents the percentage from being higher than 100%. exactly - for reference: public function Banner() { //return new DataObjectSet(); /* return empty DataObject set to disable the banner */ /* no banner for fi_FI */ if ($this-Locale == fi_FI) { return new DataObjectSet(); } $currentdonations = 37900; /* update me */ /* 2011-03-21 23:59:59 is deadline */ $seconds = mktime(23, 59, 59, 3, 21, 2011) - time(); $days = floor($seconds/86400); $percent = min(100, round($currentdonations / 500)); $pixels = min(330, round($currentdonations * 3.3/500)); /* width of bar is 330px */ $vars = new DataObjectSet(new ArrayData(array( Metertext = $currentdonations.€ ($percent%), Meterwidth = $pixels, Bannertext = $days. days left))); return $vars; } The way we should logically allow the script to show higher values I'd just wouldn't show a progress-meter at all then But no matter what is decided, adjusting the php/templates accordingly is rather easy... ciao Christian -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to website+h...@libreoffice.org List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/www/website/ *** All posts to this list are publicly archived for eternity ***

Is this worth wasting 150-odd pixels of verticle real estate? If so it should be a 100% width banner for a day or two. Else: Maybe we could temporaraly reduce the size of the animated screenshots and stick it under that, to the right of the Download LibreOffice 3.3 link... Otherwise I don't see this happening. Basically, the question is how much are willing to compromise our design to promote this, and how long are we willing to do it for. I feel a blog post is perfect. But maybe post a banner somewhere on the homepage (or if we find nowhere, then full width banner) for a single day in addition? I'd like to see a banner on the day, but for the longer-term promotion a blog-post saying the day is coming up is more suitable. I'd like to see a banner on the day, but for the longer-term promotion a blog-post saying the day is coming up is more suitable. I personally don't like a full width banner - not even for one single day. Even if we support ODF to the best of our possibilities, to me it is not more important than LibreOffice itself (I know that others might disagree on this point). Therefore I don't want to see a banner putting our logo even more in the background than we already do with the present banner. And removing more space on the page content in height should be avoided IMHO. On my screen the content has only 490px in height on the main page and the second level navigation reduces it for another 35 px. Adding a full width banner (assuming it would be only 60 px high) would reduce the visible content here by at least 12% - with a higher banner (90px is much more likely including any necessary whitespace) this would go up to nearly 20%. What would be possible: As the fundraising will be finished on March 21st, a new banner could be created for the DFD day on March 30th replacing the other (new) banner with thank you for funding our foundation - and keep on donating for just one day. But at the moment I don't have the time to work on this... So I'd propose to have a small DFD banner (just the logo and March 30th at it's side) together with a smaller Thank you banner for the (29th and) 30th March. We would have to create a dedicated DFD page (perhaps the wiki page) where we can link from the DFD banner, containing information on local activities and a link to the DFD page. But this seems to have a bit more time, so I'll put this task to the heap of later to be worked on topics... How is this looking? http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/File:Donate_and_DFD_Banners_600x60.png I took the elements and fonts from the DFD stuff, and put it on a Document Foundation branded banner. There should be enough room to use the left-hand banner for the full time from completion (at least date completion. Maybe financial completion?) to the day (the 30th). Does anyone know the hexadecimal for the brown-ish colour used instead of grey on the donate banner? I need to know also what has to go on the donate banner.
