What would be the point of that? That'd be confusing as heck for a
user looking for a download, wouldn't it?
Your suggestion only makes sense if there are strong arguments against
the all-UI-langs package. And also against the "compromise" to have a
cleanup-script/instructions on how to remove unneeded translations to
reclaim diskspace.

As someone would have to create multiple versions of installsets and
manage those on mirrors, I'd obviously not be happy with having to
offer both styles, and even as an end-user I don't really see the
point.

you're omitting dictionaries/writing aids here, and those are the biggest chunk

Size of all dictionaries/writing aids is 422MB already, and all .mo
files are 243MB, so your numbers aren't really plausible..

And to stress it: not saying that is a bad change.

Be ready for some pushback from a handful users though - while on
Windows every UI language is included in the installer, only the
language matching the Windows' UI language is installed by
default/others have to be selected manually in custom setup (and also
have option to pick individual dictionaries/writing aids.
But mac users will get everything installed, and since macs generally
have only little storage in their base configurations, some users
might be vocal about "wasting their diskspace"

Certainly not a problem in itself, after all the appstore version also
is just as large/includes all languages already - it is just that
you'll only hear from those who are "annoyed" and not from those who
don't care or are happy about the changes.

That will be handled "automagically" by the website if the naming
scheme will be consistent with Windows, it will recognize it as main
installer + helppack and add corresponding download buttons for the
help instead of the langaugepack for 24.8 and will use the langpack
buttons for the older releases.

The only thing necessary is that the filenames of the generated
packages then are
LibreOffice[Dev]__MacOS__helppack_.dmg instead of
LibreOffice[Dev]__MacOS__langpack_.dmg

No need for me here - it is treated as regular page content, so just
saving the file in the backend will do the trick.
(if the content box is empty, it defaults to the English sidebar, if
there is content, that will be used instead - there's no need to use
the button style, but since the css/html for that might not be obvious
the sample syntax for those is provided in the redmine ticket)

When I write manual it is not so bad as having to copy each string
manually, but to do some cleanup of the files. For example remove
entries with no/empty translation so that the content will not just
disappear and similar stuff.

And the strings completely missing from the old export/showing up in
only some just has been not reported/missed earlier - Last time when
German team mentioned the missing GPG strings I naturally only focused
on them, and those were there...
So automated mechanism wouldn't really have helped here.

It can be summarized as such: If it is not a simple page type, but for
example a page of type DownloadPage or DonatePage, then chances are
high that large parts of those come from weblate/are autogenerated.
everything else is is in silverstripe directly

If you mean people maintaining localized websites? Nope, no fallback
for those, and I guess having the pages handled automatically / not
having an incentive to log in to the site to update it for each
release along with the content of the English page also not changing
often/at all didn't help in having active people. Basically you only
have to create a localized page once, and then don't have to care
anymore...
If you mean backups of the translations: weblate stores them in a git
repository.

Yes, so far the development on the sample site has been done with

hope it will be completed this year/in the next months.

FYI: update the live site with the translations from weblate and from
what I can see it worked as expected this time/brought over all
translations from weblate. (that the german legal text is not
translated on the donate text also is by design, that's why a
placeholder is used for that in the string)

As for Hugo: similar translation system will likely be used for the
download page and donate pages - just makes sense to have translation
mechanism for automatically generated pages.

That is expected/by design. To have translated sidebar buttons you
need to provide translated content in silverstipe backend on the

Oh, should not have been a problem for years. Maybe a problem years
back when the strings were added to the website but were not available
on weblate, but that's long fixed since then.

I can confirm that e.g the donateyour time string is translated in
weblate (and while a recent change was done only a few days ago for
italian, it already was translated prior to that) - but for some
reason the exported files on the website server do not have the string
for italian (but for a couple of others)

> Are you aware of any issues in applying new translation efforts on the

Not problems like that - the translations aren't synced regularly
(then again strings also change very rarely), but I was not aware of
incomplete transfer of strings.

> Is Weblate the right tool to source for website translations,
> then, or this is still Silverstripe?

A clear "it depends" (see above) - some parts are translated in
weblate (mostly the static downlaod page and donate page strings), but
other parts like project-specific stuff like sidebar buttons where
each NL project might have different coverage/focus is done in
silverstripe.

And honestly the migration to new website took/takes longer than
expected, it was already decided long ago that the website system will
change to the git managed site, so no real work was done on the old
site..

That's still manual, introducing new strings into the system would
require manual update of the strings that are available in weblate,
and then exporting strings from weblate to silverstripe is also manual
since the yaml file needs to meet certain formatting standards/cannot
be used directly.

I think it might have been a bug in one of weblate's dependencies that
got updated meanwhile, at least when I export the italian website file
now I get the DonateTimeHeader string...

Some problems with different expectations of the details of the file
format between the yaml that weblate creates and the yaml that the

Note that only some of the automatically generated elements of the
site are translated in weblate, the main portion of a site would need
to be created in the CMS as free-form text content.

So if you don't already have an account on TDF SSO, please create one
and then you can use that user to login to
https://www.libreoffice.org/admin - then please poke to have your
silverstripe (user that is created automatically) granted the
permissions to edit the Farsi/Persian site. It is populated with a
skeleton of the English site, but feel free to completely cut that
down to only relevant information.

Done. Idea was to have l10n team leaders be able to do do that
themselves for the non-LibreOffice core projects where there are
hundreds of files), but our group/role layout doesn't contain the
necessary permission for that ..

the templates are in
https://github.com/tdf/newdesign_wip/tree/master/themes/libreofficenew
- however we're in the process of redesigning the site completely, so
probably not worth spending too much effort into adding proper RTL
support into the existing mess

Yes, the files are not automatically synced - weblate creates slightly
differently formatted yaml that silverstripe's parser doesn't like, so
there is a little cleanup required/updating is a manual process.

> Is the description of each version managed by weblate? Or is it
> managed in a different way?

The description lines are per codeline, not updated for each individual version.

> I think this page doesn't seem to be managed by Silvertripe.

It is managed by Silverstripe, but automatically filled based on what
downloads are available, so only parts of the page are edited in the
CMS-backend (like sidebar and other elements), the rest is assembled
by Silverstripe and translated using the yaml files (and translation
is done in weblate)

> Could you fix this issue?

Done now, sorry for late reply.

> Or what should we do?

To translate the entries in the sidebar area: add corresponding
translated entries into the page content in the /admin/pages area of
the site. If nothing is specified, it will use the English default.

The updatepath (4.1.1 we use currently → 4.2.2 → 4.3.3 (that step is
the one that takes a while) → 4.4 is being tested on a separate
testing VM with a much smaller dataset to keep times in check.

Components will be locked during that time, so no translation is
possible during the whole process.

Weblate should be available for translation again on Saturday.

After the update is complete, I'll also create the 7-1 projects and
update master templates accordingly.

(I'll send another message when everything is done)

Broken link is a broken link, no timestamping will change that.

Anyway, we'll check with mirror admins for the broken links and
fix/remove the broken links in the next weeks.

as you might have noticed, the site is now live - the switch was
delayed because of the DSGVO concerns that were raised.. Shortly after
the switchover overager rewrite rules broke search and some URLs were
not working as they were supposed to, but those had been fixed shortly
after...

As for the submissions that were done on the old site after the
extensions were imported to the new site: Those will be transferred in
the next few days.

I'm sure people will now start to give their feedback, and there are
already some additional improvements queued. The new basis makes it
easier to iterate faster and do little tweaks along the way.

That's minimum version of LibreOffice the extension is compatible with

It currently doesn't - the way it works was taken from the old
instance, aka the maintainer of an extension specifies the version, it
is not read from the extension itself/cannot tell from that listing
what kind of parameter is used in the extension.

We had a little loadtest today to get some more insights (thanks to
all who joined in!) - and the issue we discovered is not load on the
server (at least not with the increased resources assigned to the VM)
or the server's bandwidth, but rather the load on the client machines
with many participants.

Android app didn't cope at all, and I got the stretched audio and huge
delays and unresponsive UI. On laptop with one instance connected in
chrome, and another one in firefox it didn't affect my listening
experience, but there were audio-problems when I was talking -
CPU-load on the laptop was maxed out, and after closing the firefox
instance others could hear me again without artifacts. So that is in
line with Drew's feedback - as long as your machine can keep up, you
should not have any problems hearing others. And when it is just at
the edge of managing the load, it is the sending that causes problems
first.

> […]
> > I'd propose
> > - assinging more resources to the VM -> Cloph, can you have a look?

Done - machine has now double the vcpus compared to before and didn't
max out during our testing today, so while it might have been tight in
the last meeting, it should not be a problem with future ones.

> > - finding out if there was any major spike in traffic on the VM recently
> > -> also Cloph, can you have a look?

Today's test also involved using video streams (while still waiting
for more participants to join) - and network traffic stayed below
200Mbps outgoing for the VM, and other VMs on the same hypervisor also
didn't have much outgoing traffic, so we're well within Gigabit
connectivity limits

> > - have a fallback plan to have a proper meeting
>
> That's the difficult part.

Yeah, that's a little tricky.. :-) So current recommendations to
reduce load on your system:
* Avoid android app when joining call with many participants - the
app/your phone likely won't be able to cope.
* Use audio-only mode, don't send any video streams and don't request
any video streams
This can be done by using Settings → Manage Video Quality and
picking [x] low bandwidth or by joining with

https://jitsi.documentfoundation.org/meetingroomname#config.startAudioOnly=true

Smaller improvements can be had by not using grid view, but the
default with the strip at the side, and likely by hiding the list of
participants.
People having connection issues should monitor their local system
resource usage/whether CPUs are maxed out and the problems are caused
by that.

Yes - as far as my understanding of the problem is so far: won't help
for single meetings with lots of participants. Is more suitable for
achieving lower latency in regional meetings meetings - but once
people from different regions join that benefit is gone – or to scale
up for lots of simultaneous meetings with few people.

yep, but looks like those seem to be a problem on the client :-)

Changed that now - btw: that is the "Codeline to show on this page"
setting when using the split design variants.
If you want to switch to the newstyle where both are displayed
simultaneously, set the version code to 999

Also the portable download page wasn't updated in ages - there the
shortcode also needs updating for the codeline.
(And NL-projects are fee to only link to the language variant that
includes their language, no need to link to both - only difference is
set of languages included)

If you want to keep the old sites around to not break links, you can
turn them into a redirector page.
(On Settings tab when viewing a page).
So switch to Redirector page and pick your main download page.
Or just unpublish and remove from staging area to completely delete the page.

In the backend, on the main Content tab, there's an entry box for
"codeline to offer on this page (major.minor)" - below the ones for
navigation label and subtitle.

When you use the special value 999 it will use the newstyle pages,
otherwise it will use the split pages (see other mail)

Those variants are not what I was referring to as "newstyle" -
newstyle in this case refers to the combined download page that lists
both codelines on the same page, as is the case on
https://www.libreoffice.org/download

Nothing wrong with the separate style, however for those you need to
make sure you specify the correct codeline (in major.minor notation) -
both fresh and still (that is what is preferred over "stable", since
both fresh and still are considered "stable" in the usual meaning)
pages show the 6.2 line for hsb, since for nonexisting versions (that
doesn't match the "magic value" to request newstyle) it defaults to
the latest version, so you can keep the fresh page at 9.9, but the
still (in your case stable) one should be configured to show the 6.1
codeline at the moment.
Once 6.3.0 gets released, the stable should be changed to 6.2 codeline
(6.3.x then is fresh, 6.2. is stable, and 6.1 is EOL/obsolete then)

That is not part of silversripe, but rendered by Stripe directly, so
not translatable, and part of the data-protection stuff... (i.e. TDF

Stripe)

Sidebar labels are not part of the strings translatable in pootle, due
to the varoius links / different targets that NL-projects might use

So you get the English list of items when you didn't specify your own

That's intentional, as it is the legal text that is not meant to be
translated. Feel free to not include the placeholder and instead point

c) newstyle donate:

Currently no user-configurable setting to switch between old and

The remaining cut-off strings had been fixed (another error in the
po2yaml script that converts from pootle's po to the yaml files with
multiline strings) - but I forgot to flush the cache, so some of the
old truncated strings still were served.

Also today I added the few changed/added strings that were not

I think I found the issue - the po2yaml script seems to ignore all

that is added to silverstripe doesn't contain it.

Update on that: This also had been done now, except for a handful
issues that were created during the period (and where the id was
snatched from another bug that was filed after bugzilla was restored)
and that are being refiled right now.

Unfortunately bugzilla's db had to be restored from backup, so not all

[libreoffice-website] Today's infra outage

2019-03-26 Thread Christian Lohmaier
Hi *,

a small update on the infra outage today (affecting bugzilla and
askbot mostly, and for some time also other services):

The cause has been identified (gluster's self-heal failed after a
hypervisor went down) and infra is working on restoring the remaining
services.
That might still take until later tonight to avoid creating further
inconsistencies..

keep an eye on

Ah, this is a little trickier than first thought - zend framework that
is used by silverstripe doesn't know about hsb/dsb, thus the langauge

IZbot can subscribe to RSS feeds, but burrently there's no plugin installed
that would accept remote triggers.
But since IZBot also is on TDF infra, it cannot pass on all outages ;)

Only things left are the stable and testing indicators on the
old-style download page (that is the type/classification as on the
download server, i.e. stable directory vs testing directory)
for that I'll add strings Donwload.ClassificationStable and
Download.ClassificationTesting.

and the issue with the subsitevirtualpages not allowing to have
localized title/lable. A ugly workaround would be to have the virtual
page hidden and to create a site-local virtual page that then has the
page from the other subsite as backend, but that's kinda ugly, I'll
check whether one can extend the SubsiteVirtualPage with a data
extension to have the title/navigation label translatable.

And what's left is how to deal with the footer / translations - the
suggestion to use the Privacy Policy (localized term for privacy
policy), Imprint (localized term for imprint) is easiest to keep
consistent, so I think that's the way to go. (So expect
Homepage.PrivacyPolicyLabel, Homepage.ImprintLabel, to appear this
week)

So if you indeed configured your browser's langauge preferences to
list en-US before en-GB, please go to the download page and let it
display the page source, at around line 120 or so there's the
user-agent info and langauge settings that the site uses to determine
a matching download candidate.

Paste that debug info and we can see whether it's possible to adjust &
improve the detection.

True - that was added recently, and will be added to pootle later
today or tomorrow.

Also true - we wanted to sort out bugs in terms of usability with that

And while I mightnot have replied to your post in particular, I'm
pretty sure that has been stated in the past already.

Same reason basically as with the donate page, we wanted to run some
tests first to make sure it doesn't mess up with the donations that
pay all the bills...
I think we can have the strings of the donate page in pootle same time
as the one with the archive.

We need to make sure that all pages have current data - legal stuff is
annoying sometimes :/

True, sorry for that. But unfortunately we have many nl-sites that are
rather stale, so we cannot wait for everyone in all cases.

There's history of previous versions in silverstripe, so no reason to
be all that upset about changing of pagetype. furthermore there is
waybackmachine or similar, that might also have your page indexed...

Done. I took the liberty to actually point the downloadpage for fresh

Italo already did some changes to the page, and I added back the logos.

The current design is using explicit tables (eek!), changed that to
inline-block for the links/images, that allows them to reflow.

I'll leave the final review/publishing the draft to Italo

Was waiting for the list of people to grant access, as described at
the top of the wiki page Sophie linked to:

https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/NewWebsiteNLT

###
If you would like to have an area for your language (in the form of
http://XX.libreoffice.org where XX is your language code) on the
Silverstripe CMS, please:

request on the website mailing list the creation of a site and give
the name of it and the language code to use
in the same message,

list all members of your team that should have access to the admin
interface and give the e-mail address and a user name of all the
members in order to create an account for them
state whether to grant author or publisher right,
who to set as subsite admin(s). If none is specified, first one to
request the site will be entered as subsite admin, all others as
publisher.
###

anyway, created the subsite based on the italian one (i.e. copied the
structure of the italian site) - and for now the langauge is also set
to italian, as silverstripe doesn't now about vec yet

to edit login at https://www.libreoffice.org/admin with your email and
your password (triggered a password-reset link earlier today) and pick
Venetian NL project from the dropdown at the left if it isn't
automatically switching to that site.

Once you have some basic content there (you can switch between editing
and preview using the button at the lower right), the DNS can be
setup/the site made public.

Remove the link. While a subsite exists in silverstripe, only the

Unless we know the specific mirror: no.
Download wasn't slow for me, but then again
download.documentfoundatino.org / mirrorbrain will redirect to a
random mirror serving the region of the user.

Might be that a wrong geo-ip listing make mirrorbrain pick a mirror
from another country, might be that indeed one of the mirrors in
Germany is slow (but typically they are very powerfull, at least for
VDSL users in Germany they'll always manage to saturate the downstream
bandwidth)

So we need the concrete mirror, and if it didn't pick a mirror from
the expected region, also the IP.
You can also tell the affected people to append .mirrorlist to the
download.documentfoundation.org URL / use the "info" link on the
download page to manually pick a mirror.

e.g.
http://download.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/stable/5.3.1/win/x86/LibreOffice_5.3.1_Win_x86.msi.mirrorlist

Note that there was a hiccup that resulted in only a tiny fraction of
the mirrors being listed, causing too much load on the remaining ones.

The remaining mirrors should pop up in the next minutes.

Those are auto-generated on what is still available on the mirrors -
so the bug was not that 5.2.0 was still listed, but that 5.2.1 was
not.
Fixed that.

[libreoffice-website] Reminder: Monthly Infra call tomorrow 18:00 UTC - with poll to find a new timeslot

2016-09-20 Thread Christian Lohmaier
Hi,

as reminder:

the next regular infra call will take place tomorrow, Wednesday, Sep
21st, 1800 UTC.

For details and a preliminary agenda, please see:
https://pad.documentfoundation.org/p/infra

As attendance in previous calls has been poor, and at least some
people mentioned scheduling conflicts as the reason, there's now a
poll for a new timeslot:

http://doodle.com/poll/7agdzx4xux4yzsk9

Please make sure to at least block out the slots where you can not
attend at all, so at least you have the *chance* of dialing in.

And of course feel free to add your own agenda items!
The call is not limited to infrastructure administrators, but to the
whole LO community. So if you want something discussed, add it to the
agenda in the pad linked to above (ok if you cannot attend yourself,
but then provide a little background info as well please)

Ciao

Yeah, and in fact the VM was restarted at the point - so the "Fatal"
error was that the database was in fact still initializing,
You shouldn't have gotten t he message all the time from 9am til the
afternoon. Once in the morning, once in the afternoon, but not all the
time in between). So sure you weren't getting a cached copy of the
error page only? Or you just had good timing :-)

Anyway, the shuffling around has an end now, and from what I can tell
all services (including askbot that was part of the problem) have been
run smoothly since last night/today.

If you still experience problems, please let us know right as you hit
them, preferably with also a quick ping in #tdf-infra channel on
freenode.

That's nice to hear :-)
For the main website, we're usinng silverstripe, which is php based
backend with a typical templating language that is rather simple to
work with (the usual control structures to hook into the variables,
everything that is not a control statement is just output as it is
written).

Oh, we'd love to hear about those bugs, and even more so if you could
provide a fix to that layout :-)

The css surely has room for improvement, so it would be great if you
could help out with that.
https://github.com/tdf/newdesign_wip/tree/master/themes/libreofficenew
is where the code for the templates lives. (note that it includes
stuff that is not actually used, so probably the more foolproof
apporach is to just load a page and see what's included and tweak
that.

Not yet. He just communicates that he is thinkging about shutting it

I think there is no problem in shutting down t he webinterface part.
I personally never find that easy to use, at least I'm always annoyed
when a google search points to gmane and then you have to click around

Of course the nntp bridge is the one thing that makes it unique, and I
don't think theres's any other service that would offer NNTP access to
mailinglists.

We have our own archives, use mail-archive.com (for which we even put
a link to the post in the archive in the message header, so when you

copy the link from the message, and don't need to search in

Right now, the crashtest website is maintained by moggi and in flux,
so ping on #libreoffice-dev (or -qa) is preferred, Markus is not
subscribed to the website list.
I pinged him/pointed to your mail:
14:20 cloph_away: I have seen the problem already but need to

[libreoffice-website] Remember to adjust download shortcodes / version filter in download pages for 5.2

2016-07-18 Thread Christian Lohmaier
Hi *,

seems that not all projects did update the prerelease shortcode to
point to 5.2 line yet,

http://it.libreoffice.org/download/pre-release/ for example even has
pointers for 4.3 and 4.4, so it never will be listed there...

(only the automatic listing at the bottom of the download pages will
list it: http://it.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/ )

so please make sure to adjust:

* prerelease downlaod page:
  [devDL,ver="5.2"]
→ devDL tags should be added with version 5.2 and 5.1

* portable versions:
  [portableDL,type="Standard",ver="5.1"] and/or
[portableDL,type="All",ver="5.1"]
should be added for version 5.1 and 5.0 ("All" is all language
build, "Standard" is the reduced language version, feel free to only
link one of them)

* download pages themselves:
"codeline to offer on this page (major.minor)" 5.1
→ make sure it shows 5.1 version, feel free to use that for both
fresh and stable at this point (as 5.0 is already EOL, and update
check will offer update to 5.1.4)

Of course you're not obliged to use the shortcodes/have links to
versions in them. But if you do, please make sure to update them.

If you don't use them, remove the shortcodes completely and either
point to the english page or add text explaining that the available
versions are listed at the bottom of the download page.

Suggestions on how to improve the handling of this for nl-projects or
other questions regarding the shortcode → please to the
website@global.libreoffice.org mailinglist only (ideally in a new
thread, with the subject adjusted to the question at hand)

We don't manage nabble, nabble offers a forum-style frontend to our

This means that you either had the page open for very long before
submitting the form (then the token expires), or that you're using a
proxy that incorrectly hands out an old copy of the page (then the
token in the page doesn't match the token the site assigns to your
browser).

CSRF (cross site request forgery) protection is mean to prevent

That message is shown because no 404 error page was created on the tdf
site - did that now, so you get a default "page not found" style page
instead of something cryptic about the internal workings of
silverstripe.

It's a bad link, as Klaus-Jürgen did point out, but whether the link
needs to change, or the page should be created is of course the real
question.
You can create redirector pages in silverstripe to have old links
work, while not altering the new layout of the site.

This is not strange. It is just DMARC at play.

yahoo employs DMARC policies that say to reject mail that looks like
it comes from yahoo (i.e. is sent from a yahoo address), but doesn't
have a valid signature added by yahoo.

As the mailing list modifies the message (adds footer, adds tag into
subject), the signature yahoo adds is invalid, and thus mail providers
that respect dmarc either flag the message as spam (gmail does this
nowadays, previously it did reject them completely), or refuse to
accept the message.

Yes, since it's not processed by silverstripe, but handed over to
bitpay... There it is important that the value that is displayed there is
the value that gets deducted from the donator's wallet..

And it's mainly convenience to use a control where you can
incremnet/decremet, that way there's no confusion about what character is
decimal separator for example, and minimum amount is to be in the same
ballpark as the other methods, IIRC 0.01 bitcoin now is a little more than
3€

Yes, indeed (at least AFAIK) - so not really a problem. If people want to

No, the HTML-editor used by silverstripe uses a whitelist of allowed
tags and attributes, and allowfullscreen was not listed, so it was
stripped before being saved to the database.

I updated the configuration so tinyMCE (the editor) now doesn't strip
the allowfullscreen attribute anymore, and updated the new-features
site mentioned above accordingly.

Ah, I see the problem.

The editor's config for allowed tag has an entry "-em/i[class]" which means

allow em tags and i tags with class attribute, but treat them the the
same and prefer em tag (so something would be saved/passed to
silverstripe as something. The leading "-" means to ignore
empty elements. as so will become
and since it is empty removed completely.

so the solution is to use instead - the class specification tells use
font-awesome, and use fa-wrench icon, in double-size (that will result
in a css rule that prepends the character representing the symbol
(U+f0ad) in the font, the non-break spece on the one hand to add some
padding between symbol and label, and of course also to not result in
an empty element that would a also get removed..

I'll update the comment in the redmine ticket. accordingly.

You can replace the whole set by using the "Custom Sidebar" field in

I applied spacing tweaks to the css to make the menu fit. In general,
use your favorite browser's debugging tools - all nowadays offer an
on-the-fly edit mode for css properties.

Once you determined the desired values, post the changes here so they
can be incorporated.

Alternatively use your browser's "save" feature to save a copy of the
site and do the changes and send the changes..

in any case, I also made the site public, so it is now on newdesign.

Then you should actually publish the pages from within the CMS first.
Make sure to switch the internal preview to "published" site and
not to draft...

> Do we have to do something?

See above. Check your site in "published" mode - also make sure to
resize the browser window to check the 4 display widths the site
switches between depending on display width. (collapsed menu, and
three different expanded ones).

The draft-pages' menu-titles don't fit in the available area and
thus split to a second line. While for e.g. French and Brazilian
site the spacings were tweaked a litltle, the dutch ones seems too
long to still make them fit next to the logo (still should be
displayed with a minimal fontsize after all...).

So: Solve the menu-length problem (you're not obliged to use the
same menu entries as the English site) and make sure to have all
relevant pages published, then ask for switch over to newdesign
site...

Rejected. For one we do have history of the changes, but more
importantly: Website editors are neither fluent in html, nor in git.

If you want to create pages in plain html, you can use raw-html-mode
and edit there/paste what you have.

Using git for the website would only mean to:

1) lock out many editors that don't know anything about git nor html itself
2) would force us to either manually keep track of links or use
another framework on top of git to manage links
3) would not allow us to use automatically created download pages and similar
4) wouldn't allow to easily manage the substies without either
duplicating the whole thing for all the subsites or creating elaborate
permission framework on top of the existing one.

I certainly do not want to do that.

Rather than just proposing to use git, point out what you think would
be solved by that.
