Ah, OK, thanks. You found then (as I just now did) that the problem is
that makedepend is getting a stray -mieee option fed to it?

Would you be referring to multiple #include's of the same /usr/include
header? If so, I don't see how that can happen. Please post the relevent

[XFree86] Desktop is only basic after upgrade

2004-03-11 Thread Steve Tabler
I recently completed a new install of Red Hat Linux 9.0, installing EVERYTHING.

I had X running, but I couldn't get the resolutions right for both video
cards (dual-head setup).

I upgraded from XFree86 4.3 to 4.4, and carefully followed
instructions. Now I have the resolutions close to where I want them, but
my nice desktops disappeared. All I have is a basic desktop with what
appears to be 2 terminal windows open and a very rudimentary clock. What
was lost?

[XFree86] Yellow Dog Linux (PowerPC) on Mac G4 PowerBook with ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 (AGP) Chipset

2004-03-11 Thread S.A. Brown
Ladies and Gentleman:

Enclosed please find an attached LOG file with the report of my server
crash as of 11 MAR 2004.

I *am* consulting the people at YDL over this, but for those with PPC
Laptop Machines, I thought this submission would be timely.

In short, I need to be able to `startx' with my G4, and this version of
X11 doesn't seem to be cutting it. Is the ATI Mobility 9600 Radeon
chipset `broken'? If so, how can I fix it.

If you can be of assistance, I would be grateful.

I don't know why DrakeX isn't working, but you can generate a basic
configuration by running `XFree86 -configure` and moving the resulting
$HOME/XF86Config.new into /etc/X11/XF86Config-4.

[XFree86] XFree86 3.3.6 - Vesa Framebuffer

2004-03-11 Thread Ashley Rolleston
Hi,

I am developing embedded hardware on a custom linux running XFree86 3.3.6 on
a 2.4.18 kernel.

I have a SiS550 (not supported in 3.3.6) that is vesa compliant. I have
built the vesa framebuffer drivers into the kernel. I am using XF86_FBDev as
my X server.

I use an LCD which is working fine at the console with the vesa frambuffer
drivers in 800x600.

However I do not know how to figure out how to set the right modeline for my
LCD?

Any help on setting the right modeline for an LCD would be greatly
appreciated!

Thanks,

I see where I made part of my mistake: before installing XFree86 v4.4, I
copied /usr/X11R6 to a new directory as a backup as the instructions

[XFree86] Configure Question

2004-03-11 Thread Dave Sorg
I'm running XFree86 on OpenBSD 3.4. I'm not sure of the hardware in my
laptop as I bought it used. I tried configuring it multiple ways. I tried
XFree86 -configure, and then typed in the command startx. I got the error
No Screen Found. I tried XF86Setup, but when I got the menu up, the video
was shaking vertically, and I could not read it. I tried the xfconfig
program, but was not sure of the hardware. The main reason I'm interested in
this program is because a need a good video card driver to use with Mplayer.

IIRC, with the binary snapshots you don't need to backup anything. The
included install script backs up the files that will be replaced.
You'll want to read the included documentation to be sure, though. If
you build from source, you'll want to backup the whole /usr/X11R6

Hi,

just so this list doesn't ever only sees complaints:
I installed xfree4.4 last week on my laptop and it fixed a long standing
annoyance with the ATI Radeon Mobility not coming back out of blank into
a sane state on the X screen. It may be silly, but it does make me happy
to be rid of it.

Also, the build and install just purred along like a content kitten,
and I do remember X builds where I fought the build for a week
before I got it subdued. So, great job people, and thanks for sharing all
the work you put into it. :-)

2004-03-11 Thread Watts, Mark
Title: Trying to Get a verion of XFree86-xdm to handle Expired Password

We are running XFree86-4.1.0-50.EL on RedHat 2.4.9-e.30.

If the user is logging in at the console and

his/her password is near expiration this causes

xdm to shutdown gracefully leaving the user at

a command line login. It never tells the user of

the nearing expiraton.

Is there a versoin of XFree86 that handles the

upcoming expiration of password message?

Other versions of xdm recognizes a file called

xdmpasswd with is a script that gets a reason

code based on the exit status of xdm which can

do the right thing if it's because of a password

expiration.

I've seen other people post a similar question

but I've not found any answers.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

[XFree86] Asus Pundit (sis 651) : High CPU usage for X in mplayer - are these values sane ?

2004-03-11 Thread Robert Rozman
Hi,

I've upgraded to kde3.2 , upgrade X (and then downgrade again - now is
4.3.0-29 I think (Suse supplied Xfree), put new
sisdrv in it) but now I can't get previous performance of system (video was
played fluently, low cpu % from X).

Now I have cpu between 20-30% on AVI and 40-50% on mpeg2 recorded from pvr
350 (but I guess this more depends on needed rescaling).

I'm on Suse 9.0, so I guess mtrr is enabled by default and I don't now where
to look further.

I've tried:
xvtest gives approx 230 FPS.
x11perf shmoput500 gives 210/sec

I don't know what to see in xvinfo but it shows no problem at least to
blind person like me.

It seems like HW scaling is off, but don't know what to check or repair to
get it working. If I try mplayer with -vo x11 in takes less cpu (6-8%), but
when I do -vo xv it goes to described percentages and it also won't scale to
fullscreen.

I've tried to restore XF86Config but obviously turned some modules on that
gave me some hard freezes so I am not to happy to make further tries. Could
you please
send me example config that works with XV so I'll take a further look for
problem or any other advice how to track the problem ?

Any other hint, check up to do ?

Thanks in advance,

Robert.
