You should send your /var/log/XFree86.0.log file to the xfree86@xfree86.org
list so the problem can be diagnosed.

Hi,

I really need help. I'm so lost with getting my ATI
card to work I dont even know what to do anymore!

Please can you give me a simple guide on how-tow
download the latest snapshots or patches and apply
them i.e what commands to run etc...

Everytime I try give Linux a go, I fail because of my
IGP 340M Radeon Mobility!

I recently downloaded Fedora Core 1 and I like it
because the rest of my hardware works great including
acpi, i'm using an HP compaq nx9000 (dg211a).

I'm so sick of reinstalling Windows!

If you could explain to me how to apply a patch or
something to get the best performance and DRI etc...
to work I'd really be much appreciated.

I really beg you!

2003-08-14 Thread Rolf Gerrits
Emilio,

I have a Diamond Stealth 64 VRAM 3240 ( TI RAMDAC ) video card and HAVE
the same problem.
XFree86 2.4.x fails at the RAMDAC probe and exits.

I now use ¨vesa¨ in stead of the ¨S3¨ driver.
Now I am stuck with 1024x768 / 16bpp in stead of 1152x864 /16bpp !
I could go back to XFree86 3.3.6 that one worked ( with SVGA ) ...
no problems at all.

I don't want to go back to 3.3.6 ... there must be another solution.
I wondered if you ever found a solution ( exept: buy an other card .. ) ?

Subject: [XFree86] Help me please!! ( Diamond Stealth 64 VRAM )

I wondered if you ever found a solution ( exept: buy an other card .. ) ?

 Rolf

Looks like you need to work on screen settings next. According to the

be
able to help you with that. Also I didn't see any part of your log file

 That

I think your /etc/X11/XF86Config* is incorrect.
Are you sure you have Device and Screen sections?

[XFree86] help me please!

2003-06-18 Thread xscui
Hi,xfree86

I am a Chinese student, and I am a beginner of Linux.I used to use RedHat Linux
8.0,but I have a problem now,I beg your help,Thank you every much !

My trouble is that I can't login normally, but I can login text mode. The system will
tell me some message as Server Authorization directory (daemon/ServAuthDir) is set to
/var/gdm but this does not exist. Please correct gdm configuration
/etc/X11/gdm/gdm.conf and restart gdm.The message will appear in every few seconds.

I noticed that when the system startup, something have wrong. One looks as this:
Start Sm-client : can not chdir(/var/spool/clientmqueuel):Permission denied Program
mode requires special privileges,e.g.,root or TrustedUser.[FAILED]

I also check the files by myself,I opened /var/gdm (/var/gdm looks like a
directory, but I can vi /var/gdm).The content is as below (6 lines):
Press ? for keyboard shortcuts
Sorted by name (.bak,~,.o,.h,.info,.swp,.obj at end of list)
=/var/gdm/
./
fonts.cache-1
:0.Xservers

I think there is a file called :0.Xservers in the directory /var/gdm/ ,and the file
maybe as below(1 line):
:0 local /usr/X11R6/bin/X :0

At first I look for answer in internet by google,I have tried changing the
attribute of /var/gdm ,but it failed still. later ,I want to use startx to get into
GUI ,I see some information about your mail ,so I write to you to beg your
help. Please help me ,I also give you some files copy from my computer. The files
include /etc/X11/gdm/gdm.confetc/X11/gdm/factory-gdm.conf/etc/X11/XF86config
and /var/log/XFree86.0.log

   Thanks a lot!!

Yes, send us your /var/log/XFree86.0.log file and perhaps
/etc/X11/XF86Config-4 as well.
