Re: [XFree86] ATI Radion 9000 RH 8.0 Configuration Error

2003-02-26 Thread William G. Lea
I've been through the XFree86 mail archive with no luck. I found the PCI
problem, but now it seem the config file is strangely formated by
fglrxconfig. Are you saying that the problem is with the X sysem?

Can you give me a better reference to search on? Better still, just bundle
up the posts (if you still have them) and send them to me at
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

I'm reluctant to try recompiling X from CVS unless I have to. Absolutely
have to. I'm not sure how that process works and one learning curve is
enough right now...

The ATI drivers picked the wrong PCI device ID for me. But you won't
get dual head working with the current ones anyway (or at least, I
couldn't). What you need is the current CVS (or latest 4.3 preview
snapshot) of XFree86, plus a patch to fix some problems and add some
features on radeon, plus a magic line in the config file. Details are
in the previous thread I mentioned! Bear in mind that you don't get
accelerated 3D from the driver at present.

Perhaps I should package up my build in case anyone else wants to give
it a try. Is there a standard way to make a binary package from a CVS
 source tree?

Re: [XFree86] ATI Radion 9000 RH 8.0 Configuration Error

2003-02-25 Thread Estevan Cedillo
Hello there I have the ATI Radeon 8500, RH 8.0 does support my card but you
can offical Unsupported drivers from ATI, but I think your going to get the
same problem as when you install the drivers. If you need I can help in some
parts of the installation or you can help me installing the drivers too.

I'm having some dificulties configuring X to run with a dual headed system
based on ATI's Radion 9000.

I'm running Red Hat 8.0 and their comments are simply We don't support it
...

I went to the ATI site and got their driver files and executed them. They
claim to install OK but when I run fglrxconfig X won't start.

Looking at the logs it appears to be some sort of configuration problem --
the server cant find a screen device and then dies. There appears to be
one in the config file so I'm baffeled.

I've attached the logs and config files both from a unsucessfull
fglrxconfig XF86Config-4 file using the fglrx driver and the redhat x
configurator files that do work (well both monitors give me the same image)
using the vesa driver.

I'd appreciate it if anyone out there who has had this problem could give
me a hand. Or just point me at the right section of the X Docs for that
matter. I'm trying to avoid reading the whole lot.

Thanks
