[Zope-dev] NOTICE: zope.org server move

2008-06-11 Thread Jens Vagelpohl
The zope.org-related servers and services maintained by Zope
Corporation will be moving to a new home late Thursday night Eastern
Standard Time.

What services are affected?
---

The most important service addresses include...

 - svn.zope.org
 - cvs.zope.org
 - mail.zope.org and lists.zope.org

How long will the outage last?

The servers will be moved physically to a new hosting provider. There
will be an outage of about 2 hours for the physical move, as well as
an outage while the new DNS information for these services propagate
throughout the internet. Service may be spotty for several hours past
the 2 hour physical move window. Work is slated to start at about
11:00 PM Eastern Standard Time (04:00 GMT, 05:00 CEST).

How does this affect me?

If you are doing development on software stored on svn.zope.org, or if
you want to surf www.zope.org or use the egg repository on zope.org
you will see an outage lasting at least 2 hours. Please refrain from
checking in software changes during this period and wait until the
service addresses resolve normally. Mail to or from the Zope mailing
lists will be interrupted until the physical move has been completed
and the DNS record changes have propagated to your ISP.

The Zope Corporation sysadmin team will handle the move, if you have
any questions please contact me directly and I will clear up any
issues with them.

Re: [Zope-dev] Container bug with unicode traversal

2008-06-11 Thread Christophe Combelles

I've just found it's a duplicate of #163149.
I'll commit the fix.

Hi,

If an object with a unicode name is copied then deleted, there is a
unicode error. I've reported it here:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/zope3/+bug/238579

This is annoying because the user account becomes unusable!

The deleted object is kept in the user's clipboard, and the traversal is
tried evereytime a folder is viewed, to check if the object is pasteable().

The ContainerTraversable adapter tries to gettattr with a unicode name.

I've attached a patch with unittest + ftest + fix. Could you please
check this is the right place or the right way to fix it? If this is
ok, I will commit the fix.

Christophe

Re: [Zope-dev] Container bug with unicode traversal

2008-06-11 Thread Christophe Combelles
Since the problem can be reproduced with a very simple manipulation and leads to
an unusable user account (it occured for me in a production application),
I think it is worth releasing zope.app.container 3.6.1 and backporting to 3.5.x
so the fix be available in zope 3.4

will be an outage of about 2 hours for the physical move, as well as an
outage while the new DNS information for these services propagate

If the sysadmins reduce the DNS TTLs to something like 5 minutes, and do
that well in advance of the physical move (say, couple of days before),
then new DNS information should propagate quickly.

The lowest value allowed by the web-based DNS vendor that holds the

[Zope-dev] status zc.yuiresource

2008-06-11 Thread Martijn Faassen

Hi there,

I saw Jim started work on a zc.yuiresource, but then stopped before it
did anything useful. I assume it was going to make the YUI libraries
available as a resource library. The strategy would be to check in a
release of YUI, add the right ZCML, and then release the whole thing as
an egg.

But before any of that happened, Jim stopped. Jim, is there any special
reason this work didn't continue? If there is nothing blocking it, I can
finish it up, as I need such a thing.

Yes, I got bogged down trying to decide how to make it work. :)

Unlike Ext, YUI is distributed as lots of individual files. To know
which ones to load, you have to know their dependencies, or you have
to use the loader. In the short term, I decided to just use the
loader *and* use files hosted off the YUI site.

[Zope-dev] Re: status zc.yuiresource

I saw Jim started work on a zc.yuiresource, but then stopped before it
did anything useful. I assume it was going to make the YUI libraries
available as a resource library. The strategy would be to check in a
release of YUI, add the right ZCML, and then release the whole thing
as an egg.

But before any of that happened, Jim stopped. Jim, is there any
special reason this work didn't continue?

Yes, I got bogged down trying to decide how to make it work. :)

Unlike Ext, YUI is distributed as lots of individual files. To know
which ones to load, you have to know their dependencies, or you have to
use the loader. In the short term, I decided to just use the loader
*and* use files hosted off the YUI site.

Ah, yes. I don't like the loader but that's mostly because you can't use
it for your own extensions as far as I could figure out. It centralizes
what depends on what instead of putting it into the individual .js
files. I don't like manually loading dependencies either of course. :)

I can't use the files hosted off the YUI site in my deployment, as web
applications can run locally.

I was just thinking about making the minimal thing work; have the
ability to publish the stuff locally as a resource library directory or
something...

Martijn

I was referring to the binary export/import, which is the only one
supported by ZODB, afaik, although it's been a very long time since I

ZODB/ExportImport.py

This defines a class that gets mixed into ZODB.Connection.Connection.

[ZWeb] NOTICE: zope.org server move

[Zope] BaseRequest.traverse, skins and BrowserViews

2008-06-11 Thread Dylan Jay
The current setup of traversal seems to give precedence to objects in a
skin, over a browserview... but only at the siteroot. Is this by design
or accident?

If by accident and not knowing the innards that well, is it possible to
have the opposite occur?

As in, I want to override search.pt from default Plone skins with my own
browserview version. Seemed a reasonable thing to want to do to me anyway.

If the sysadmins reduce the DNS TTLs to something like 5 minutes, and do
that well in advance of the physical move (say, couple of days before),
then new DNS information should propagate quickly.

That would be the case if all DNS servers would be perfect

[Zope] zopectlsock missing

2008-06-11 Thread Peter Bengtsson
This happens from time to time and I've never really understood how it
ends up like this.
There's no zopeinstance/var/zopectlsock socket which means that
zopectl stop|restart|start just spits out daemon manager not running
When in fact, Zope is running. It's there when you run `netstat -nptl`
and you can go to the.
If I do go in to http://localhost:8080/Control_Panel/manage_main and
Shutdown the next time I'll be able to use zopectl happily.

Does anybody know what's going on with and why it goes missing?
I have a vague suspicion that it might have something to do with my
init.d restart script and rebooting of the server but I could be
wrong.

Cheers,
Peter

[Zope] Call for new ZSyncer maintainer

2008-06-11 Thread Paul Winkler
Hi folks,

ZSyncer (http://sourceforge.net/projects/zsyncer) is in need of a new
maintainer.

Once in a while I get a question about ZSyncer. Sadly I have to face
the fact that I have not been actively maintaining it for quite some
time: I haven't used ZSyncer at all for over a year, have made no
commits in that time, and no releases for over two years.

So, while I'd be happy to do some paid work on ZSyncer if your
employer really needs something done, I've clearly abdicated my
leading role in ZSyncer's community (is there one?).

Anybody care enough about it to step up? If so, contact me off-list.
I would be happy to provide support during a transitional period.

Summary of current status:

* There are several fixes in CVS that should probably be released as
0.7.2, but I'm not sure if they're adequately tested.

* Tests pass under zope 2.9; untested with 2.10 or trunk.

* The code is, in my opinion, badly in need of refactoring and cleaning up.

* There is a suite of ZopeTestCase tests. Should probably be broken up
  into smaller cases.

If this in a buildout, then you you ran bin/buildout which nuked your

zope2instance where it sets the CLIENT_HOME to parts/instance instead
of a part-specific subdirectory of var/

To clarify, recent versions of zope2instance do set CLIENT_HOME
correctly, as well as set specific pid-filename and lock-filename
options outside of the parts/instance directory.

This is not buildout. Just regular zope like it's been since 1999

Ususally when I see the daemon manager not running, it implies that I
don't have permissions on the socket file, rather than that the file is
missing (e.g., the service was started as root).

[Zope] REMOTE_ADDR passed through when proxying

2008-06-11 Thread Peter Bengtsson
Since apache sits in front of Zope, the REMOTE_ADDR header always
becomes '127.0.0.1' not the IP address of the actual client
connecting.
What do I need to do to get this passed on to Zope.

Tried ProxyPreserveHost and ProxyVia but that's not it. I've even
tried, dangerously, switching ProxyRequests On.

trusted-proxies within zope.conf?

 trusted-proxies within zope.conf?
Yeah. Got that.
It's set to the IP and the domain name used like the example shows.

In fact, I'm deploying a site in Ubuntu that was originally deployed
with FreeBSD and I've copied everything! (Putting it in quotes
because I can't be 101% certain plus certain things should be copied).
On the FreeBSD the apache was compiled from source (long before I
arrived).

Besides, the IP addres IS passed but under HTTP_X_FORWARDED_FOR but I
think the Domain part of acl_users relies on REMOTE_ADDR

[Zope] Re: [Zope3-Users] is it possible to copy object b/w two zodb Database

2008-06-11 Thread Eric Bréhault
Hello,

I do not know if you can open 2 ZODB

but you can exchange objects between 2 instances:
a method on instance A would export an object as zexp and stream it over http
and a method on instance B would call this method on instance A, and
would import the resulting zexp

but there is maybe a smarter way

Yes, using the export/import mechanism.
