these type of work isn't a yearly thing. you got
 to keep up the

...one time we went to a baranggay. we were to
 talk about starting
home-based business. the chairman was asked to
 gather listeners.
within a few minutes the lecture areas was packed
 with people,
housewives, teeners, kids. before the talk started a
 few quetions
 were asked. among them:

  will we be providing snacks?
will we be providing capital for the business?

  answers go like these:

we had funds for the snack but not for business
 capital.

within seconds, the lecture area was cleared. were
 we supposed to
go back after a year?? NO. the following day we were
 there again.
(masochist, we are.) a couple of young wives showed
 up with their
kids. they asked if they could have the snacks early
 as their
children haven't eaten yet. snacks were given and we
 talked about how
to get a home-based business going.. where to get
 capital, how to
 market, etc.

the 3rd day, the same 2 ladies and their children
 showed up. they
had 3 older ladies with them. all 3 had children
 with them as well.
of course, snack were served before the lecture.

last i heard, these 5 ladies have steady income. a
 daycare. a sari-
 sari store. a carinderia.

i have a couple more stories similar to this one,
 but i know you
 already get it. ;)

keep re-electing the same politicians tapos

that's because they (we) don't have a choice. we
have the same set of
candidates every election. when there's someone
new, she has to get
real lucky to be elected. young bloods always get
cheated! (unless
they're kids of trapos) as they don't have the
resources to much up
with the trapos. GUNS, GOONS GOLD- it still
stands when it comes to
philippine politics.

you want to know why the trapos still rule? get
out. don't hit the

into people's
brain that the politicians are your one only
source for emergency
funds.. kailangan ng pampalibing, pambili ng
gamot, manganganak si
misis. nobody ever told this people that it
doesn't work that way
and that it shouldn't be that way. why? because
the trapos know that
by not empowering these people they would continue
to be vital in
these people's lives and the so called educated
ones don't really
care as pastures are greener abroad.

it's not just about education. it's about better
choices and people
empowerment.

It doesn't matter where you are or what position you are in. You can always do your share.
Whenever I ride a taxi I always try to have a conversation with the taxi driver. I ask them how they feel about our country, our politicians, and their outlook.

Most often these cab drivers, like me,are angry with GMA and would start to recount how good it was under Marcos or how it should have been Lacson or how Erap was stripped of his rights.

I would listen to them and while I agree on some of their points I try to inject some of the things that I know. That while Marcos might have started well, he with his family, became a dictator that killed off his enemies, suspended human rights and stole mind-blowing amounts from the country.
That while Lacson might have been strict and fierce,he has killed off his enemies as well. That he would summarily execute people without seeing a trial often pocketing whatever loot was found.

More often than not we part ways with a better understanding of each other. On his part he was given a chance to rethink what he once perceived. That we must aspire for someone better. On my part I see why it would be all too easy for the poor to see trapos as saviours and sway them to further their ambitions.

I only hope that these same drivers would talk to other passengers and the cycle would start anew. :)

when i said educated (with double qoutes for the lack of term) i
meant not solely those who got degrees... in general it means a
person capable of being rational, pass sound judgement,
analytica/logical, wise/smart, aware of his sorroundings...
--- all at least to some extent...

It sounds good but how much education do
these guys need ? Buti pa yung daga sa laboratory experiment pag hinawakan yung
knob ng dalawa, tatlong beses at nakuryente di na hahawakan ulit. Tayo we keep
re-electing the same politicians tapos magtataka baket di tayo nag proprogress
I just read in the newspaper that according to one survey 40% of the
respondents want Erap back as President (or as part of the new leadership)
when will we ever learn (hope this survey is wrong though)

Give them a better choice and make them think twice.
Do not
ridicule them but educate them.

We can just hope that in time we Filipinos would
not be just educated
in our minds but also in our hearts.

^ Real talk right there. Hats off to you, Bob. I
have your back on
this one.

Let's not get stuck with generalizations
because believe it or not
some of those educated support Erap and not for
their own selfish

They just sincerely believe

Of course I don't believe in this. But
what is important here is
that in their eyes that is what they see. That

In the lack of genuine, selfless, exceptional

 Regarding lack of education it's
not necessarily true
that people in the provinces are less educated,
it's actually the
urban poor yung mga ignorant at
nagpapagamit and FYI
the electoral college system in the US was designed
to protect the
smaller states hence the smaller states have
disproportionately
larger percentage of electoral votes vs their
population - i.e. they
will always have 3 (or was it 2) votes no matter
how small their
population is

kala ko pa naman totoong galing kay nic...
hehe
may point siya... .. i somehow agree when
he said na dapat tax payers lang ang pwedeng
bumoto...
yung sakin naman non, i said, dapat parang
 US, electoral not popularity vote...
i mean dapat malaki ang weight ng votes ng
manila and
other big cities as compared to smaller towns
 kasi nga mas maraming educated
(for the lack of term)
sa cities... nahahatak kasi pababa ng mga
ignorant (again for the lack of
term) ang result...

although they say its only in the election
that rich and poor
become
equal... in the case of the philippines i
don't buy
that... either nabibili boto nila or nalilinlang
ng popularity ng
candidate... so it doesn't really help if
they are equal...

oh, and one more thing... why are they
looking for a president that
have the mandate of the majority? pano
mangyayari yon eh tuwing
election 4 or 6 yata ang tumatakbo sa
pagkapresidente... votes are
spreadout... whoever wins will never have
mandate of the majority..
dapat bumalik sa 2 party system...
or better yet... ipadala na lang lahat ng
pulitko ng pilipinas sa
iraq para matapos na silang lahat...
they're all assholes!!
sorry for the language but i do mean
that...!! lol
