It really isnt that bad. There
is no doubt that ADSI adds some overhead with its schema mapping magic
over straight LDAP and an the .NET wrapper adds some overhead on top of that,
but most of that stuff is negligible compared to the actual cost of the call on
the network. I would be
Hi John
1) You might want to check the settings on the switch your
NIC connects to after the change to check the speed is set appropriately.
We had some performance problems after a similar move that we later tracked down
to this.
2) Presumably the IP address of the DC will change?

what's the size of these 4 locations? and their network connectivity to
the next larger location that has a DC?
the locations may be large enough to absolutely require a fileprint
server - but they could very well be fine without placing a DC in the
location and you'd still find authentication
I've found an interesting article that shows how to add the dial-in tab to
the ADUC on an XP machine... Tried it; it works fine...

Does anybody have a Dell 2650 Rackmount that could tell me if it has at least two free
PCI slots that are full height? I need to put a video capture card and a firewire card
in one.

Yes, we have them and yes it has5 PCI slots. I guess
it depends what you have in them as to the number of free
slots.

Yeah I have some, I will have to look on Monday to see if it meets those requirements though. Just send me an email to remind me. If memory serves, there is a pci riser card on those things that allows you to get 2 and only 2 full-height cards in horizontally. Or maybe that is the ibm 345's? I

I used a great little program called Hacker.EXE
(excuse the name) that was great for modifying the Gina to change any of the
messages, imagesetc, but can't seem to find a site for it now. Maybe
someone else has experience.
In the end, we didn't use it 'cos management was a
little nervous,
it's called Resource Hacker (reshacker.exe) and is
available at: http://www.users.on.net/johnson/resourcehacker/
Quite nice - I've also used it - but only for lab-purposes
to easily distinguish machines at logon time. However, we've moved to
bginfo from sysinternals, which is obviously much
aren't those the rules that apply to post to this

And I'll be in the GPO cabana every day. I seem to have
gotten an extraordinary number of 6pm-9pm shifts! I guess us non-Microsoft
grunts get the less desirable slots :-). Definitely stop by and bring something
from the dinner buffet.
