In my backups I do 3 directories on a large disk via tar, which has
historically worked fine. Last week, I added a fourth directory with
tar, and now I cannot get a backup of one of the dirs!

Was the new directory (filesystem) that you added bigger than the
ones that were working?
I had a problem with using tar on a big filesystem and the estimate
would always time-out.
if the new disk is bigger by a great deal try doubleing the etimeout
value in the amanda.conf
I don't want to mirror I want to stripe and the are on the same scsi
chain as the library.
