Hello,
1. ReadyBoost is method to speed up windows _BOOT_ time only. Nothing more. You
will notice the difference only if you restart Windows often.
2. RAM disk does not deliver any speedup compared to properly configured
AmiBroker.
With properly configured AmiBroker I mean using appropriate
Hi Herman,
I am still using XP as I didn't want Vista when I bought my new computer 2
years ago. Would the flash drive idea work with XP or do you need Win7? I
currently have 3 Gig of Ram but thought this might be a useful idea when I work
with Photoshop as some of my files are well in excess
Maybe TJ can comment...?
Generally is it worth trying to run AB from a ramdisk or via something like
herman is suggesting...?
One thing I do have plenty of is RAM... my CPU cores are getting short of spare
cycles though!
Thanks
Hi All,
(I don't use it...)
AFAIK, Ready Boost is for cashing files that the system uses.
So AB, as any other application, could potentially take advantage of it.
However, USB 2.0 is slower than a new SATA disk. So if you have a decent new PC
with 4GB of RAM and two SATA disks, you gain not
How about a ramdisk...?

Hi,
(I don't use RAM Disk either...)
RAM Disk use RAM. So it has a much better bandwidth than an USB flash drive.
However, it reduces the usable RAM for the apps and the system.
So if your system in NOT low on memory, while using all your needed apps at the
same time, and your apps use a lot

There was a good discussion of RAM DISKS, 12/15/09 - 12/17/09, on this
forum.
Remember, there are two types of RAM disk, hardware, and software only.
I would expect that the hardware ones would be considerably faster than
software only. But I don't have either. So that is mere expectation
