I just wrote Amazon regarding coupons. They replied with a sort of
no with some jargon called deeplink. No idea what that is. Heres
the link they sent me.

I am going to write to androlib to see if they would consider offering
One thing you could do that I have done in a few occasions, is to get your
beta testers email address and validate that exists on the device. If it
doesn't, exit the app with a message.
Of course, this can be a bit of a pain and not very manageable for a lot of
beta testers because that involves
did you have that on the Android-Market?
E.g. is it against the terms to have a filter like that in a free app ??

No... I distributed it to them personally.

I used DropBox to create a download link and just sent them a link to
download the .apk

My goal is actually kinda cool. Biz cards using QR code like this

But I want the actual app download to come from a reputable market so people
don't freak, not just downloaded from my website. Therein lies my problem.

It doesn't solve the 30% problem, but otherwise, it seems to me that there's a
simple solution on Amazon: gift certificates. Buy them for your beta testers
(or whoever), and they can buy your app with it.
Is there some obvious flaw to this that I'm missing?

You mean other than the fact that you have to fork out your own money to do
that?

OK, I guess I misunderstood, but that's what I thought the OP was asking for.
Who were you expecting to pay for your beta testers' copies?

Actually that scenario is just like above... no matter how you do it
Amazon(just like Google) will take their cut and you(the dev) will still absorb
the cost.

Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but you kind of need to trust your beta testers
anyway, no? If they run off with your $0.99, that's probably a good - and
cheap, actually - indication that they shouldn't be in your beta group.

I want to reward my beta testers. But I'm a single developer without a lot
of resources... If I get a lot of beta testers there can be a fairly large
difference between giving them the app for free and actually

Are the hoops less cludgy at Getjar.com or slideme.org? Or will they
be less cludgy when Amazon finally comes out with their market?

Honestly, no idea. But given Amazon's infrastructure I'd be willing to bet

It's really is a no-win situation. I've refunded people who have
helped me before using PayPal, but then I took the hit for the 30%
Google took in the first place, so it's not a viable long term
solution. And if you give them less than the full purchase price, you
look like a cheapskate.
