According to the code (see parse_arguments), you should pass the same text in both cases. I don't think we've ever defined what it would mean to write `Makefile:foo:Makefile.in'. Automake accepts this, but I don't recall what meaning it is given. I imagine all but one of the input files are ignored. Tom
